Sassy cats – Gus – the mancat, the myth, the legend!

It’s the peep again. (Gracie is on vacation currently sleeping on the windowsill after an exhausting morning of bird watching!)

Gus is our resident mancat and what a mancat he is. He’s very smooth. He came here laid back, like Fonzie in Happy Days. Sliding into a group. Nothing aggressive. No jerky movements. Just suave and debonair. Sasha hissed at him but he gave her a smile and a wink. Before you knew it, she was under his spell.

We haven’t had a mancat since Jake who passed in 2015. Jake was a memorable cat whose antics are still talked about. These are hard shoes to fill. Gus isn’t like Jake. He is his own wonderful self. There is a lot less drama (thank God!) and an easy going nature. He’s not demanding but Sasha has taught him how to sing for his supper. (They are working on a few duets!)

He gets along well with all the cats. As the largest at 14 pounds, it’s a fun sight to watch him and Gracie (the smallest at 7 pounds) chase each other around. His stride is longer but she’s faster and can duck under places he doesn’t fit.

He and Morgan have sniffing matches. It’s a form of whose butt smells stronger (Worse? Odoriferous?). I’m never sure who wins but they seem to enjoy it.

I am his second favorite squeeze edged out by the floofy tuxie Sasha who visibly swings her hips and flaps her eyelashes when he’s around. (Seriously, where did she learn that?) When she saunters into the room, he drops me like a week-old bagel! Here are some pictures.

This is Gus napping with his second favorite squeeze. Looks like we have matching fur but it must be the lighting. I don’t have ginger hair!

Sasha and her “come hither” pose!

One of my favs!

  1. I totally enjoyed this post about Gus… the mancat, the myth and the legend. We don’t hear about Gus much because he is such a laid back guy he stays under the radar. He is such a cool cat. This is one of your sweetest Sassy Cat posts, Kate. Love him spooning with you… he loves you♥ I am so happy he and Sasha landed with you!

    • We are all happy he is here. He has been here as long as he was at the shelter. He had a good life there in a large cat room with friends. I suspect he had lady friends there too! 🙂 It’s still better here with less cats and all the food readily available.

  2. Ahhhh…..gingers have that special “something”……!! I had a ginger for my first cat and while I’ve had all manner of cats in all these many years the gingers have been my “soul cats”. Gus is a cutie………

    Hugs, Pam

  3. I laughed at your line about you being squeeze #2: “When she saunters into the room, he drops me like a week-old bagel!” Gus fit right in which was nice … not pushy is nice too. You have happy and companionable kitties.

  4. I remember when you first got Gus and the story of his acclimation. I’ve watched Sasha’s transition from hating him to falling in love. BTW, have you ever asked any of the other kitties to post on your Friday blog? Or would Gracie be offended?
