Gracie here. It’s been an exciting week. The portal to hell was sitting out. We were taking bets on who was going to the vet. Gus, with the wonky eye or me with my constant barfing were the two best candidates. Gus won this round (although I won the bet!).
When he got back, he told us about the peep’s choice of music in the car. We always likes to compare what she plays for each of us. She had him listening to AC/DC and then Billy Joel. He wasn’t a fan of the former but liked the piano stuff. He sang along. He said he did a great job. The peep was yelling encouragement (“shut up” is encouragement, isn’t it?).
Everything was running late (as always) but the peep had brought his favorite grooming tool. She brushed him for 40 minutes. He was in heaven. He almost forgot he was in the vet’s office and terrible things were going to happen. It was almost like a spa day. He just needed a niptini.
The vet poked and prodded. He was there for a wonky eye but she checked his ears too. Oops! Pretty gunky! Gus hates his ears cleaned but he had both a bacterial and yeast infection. Yikes! Ear meds and washing. His least favorite.
When Gus first joined us, he had a herpes infection in his eyes. It has flared up again but only in one eye. The peep got four meds that cost as much as an island. (I’m not sure what an island is but she went on and on about it!) Pills, ear wash and goop and then eye ointment. This was not going to be easy. Seven days. Seven long days until it is all done.
Gus did not mind the pill. It was HUGE. The peep called it a horse pill. It was the antibiotic. Only old cats Jake and Hazel took pills easily. They liked pill pockets. Morgan, who has not been on pills since she was a kitten many moons ago, may take them because she’s the perfect cat. I will not. No way, no how is anyone going to jam an object (that isn’t chicken) down my throat. Sasha may take them. She’s an easy cat. Mostly. Pesty though, very pesty.
They took his temperature. If we can go to the moon, why can’t they come up with a better way to take a temperature that doesn’t involve foreign objects up the wazoo. Gus was not amused but he didn’t have a temperature. He did fart in the vet’s face. Served her right. It made the peep’s eyes water. They discussed clearing out the building because of toxic fumes.
The staff did the first ear cleaning (that junk looked like the dark side of the moon! Maybe the peep should play Pink Floyd next time!). When he came home, he slept off the indignities, vowing never to let anyone lift his tail.
He’s healing. He and Sasha had an intense butt smelling when he got home. She was sure he was cheating. He smelled funny but all turned out well.
We all hope your weekend is good and without any ear cleaning or butt temperature gauge!

Poor Gus! I wouldn’t like all that treatment either. I hope he had a good weekend…the Peeps, too! 😉

He has one more pill tomorrow morning than the agony is done. Still not fully opening his one eye but the ears are good.

Gracie – well I hope you don’t have to go to the vet next and thanks for the update on Gus’ trip to the vet. Must’ve been quite an ordeal as he is sleeping alone in the cat bed. Lots of drama in the car and under the tail.

I go on Tuesday. 😦

He’s doing better but his eye is not completely open yet. He finishes his eye meds tomorrow. I may have to call.

She does! He’s such a pip! He makes me chase him for 15 minutes to take his pill and eye goop. Then he settles down and eats and I can touch him again. I wonder if he will miss this routine on Wednesday when he doesn’t have to get it anymore.

Poor Gus, Sasha will take good care of him though.

Portal to hell, ha ha. My Misty also sings opra when it is vet time. I cannot figure out why manufacturers can’t make pills that are tuna or steak flavored for pets. My animals laugh at pill pockets. They eat the pocket and spit out the pill.

I had a cat who preferred the pocket to the pill! 🙂

This ears and eyes are both better but he’s on meds through the middle of next week. He’s not happy about that.

Poor Gus! Good Wishes to him! Gracie should get gold stars 🌟 for being such a good reporter! 😄
Happy Weekend to all of you!
And I can identify with the “vet bill scream!” The office.visit alone keeps going up!

Gus is doing well. Eye is getting better. Ears too. My biggest beef with the vet is the 300% markup on drugs over the normal retail price. Something I could buy at Chewy for $10 costs $30 at my vet. Multiply that by 4 drugs. Zazing! My vet doesn’t do senior discounts either. (Senior for the owner, not the pet! 🙂 )

Hilarious, Gracie! You’ve outdone yourself. I read this to daughter Kate and grandson David. Thanks for the belly laughs.

Glad I could provide some hilarity! Gus did not think it was funny but Gracie did a giggle. Next week is her turn at the vet so we’ll see how she feels about it then.

Poor Gus. Ear goop is awful. My Brody gets that and he is not easy to medicate.

Both Gracie and Gus are subject to ear infections, mostly yeast. Part of it is my fault. I should clean them out more often but they create such a ruckus that I sometimes let it slip.

Me too. Probably everyone but Gracie. She’s having a spell. Hopefully she can hack up a hairball and feel better.

Slowly getting better. It’s hard to get ointment in his eye.

I can imagine. We had to put drops in Maya’s eyes not so long ago and it was very hit or miss. She didn’t squirm or anything, it was just us trying to get the drop out before she blinked!

I much prefer drops to ointment. It just rolls out. The vet says this is better. It’s not better if you can’t get it in there!

Gracie, no ear cleaning or butt spears here!
Poor Gus… that was a pretty intense experience at the V-E-T.
I see you you have an appointment on Tuesday, Gracie…. no, no, no, I read it wrong I think. Enjoy your weekend, Sassy Cats!

Aww, poor Gus. Both Norman & Elsa sympathize about the indignities foisted upon us pets. Here’s hoping the healing continues and everything will be right as rain in no time.

Poor Gus…….but it could have been worse (not sure how specifically but generally it’s true). I suspect he’s forgiven you and the vet by now and all is well! Teddy is due for a regular shot but vet visits being what they usually are, there will be other indignities suffered in addition to the shot I’m sure!
Hugs, Pam

He forgives fast. He snuggled up to me when he was sure I wasn’t going to medicate him. Somehow he knows the timing. He’s normally easy going but he bit me last night during the pilling. However, I did put my finger in his mouth (what was I thinking). He has all his teeth. Every last one of them. This morning he was back to him normal self.

Glad the thermometer didn’t count as cheating. And the peep was sure smart to bring that brush.

Good to hear Gus is feeling better. Doctor’s of any kind are expensive but if they get to the bottom of the problem worth the money. At least Sarah’s treatments are free. Nice of her to take care of him.

We have a few days of medications left. Fingers crossed. Sasha always provide emotional support to any cat that doesn’t feel well. Gracie calls it pesty but Gus loves it.

Great blog—lots of giggles, sorry Gus! But I hope Gus heals up quickly and the portal from hell can remain where ever it normally lives when a vet visit isn’t imminent.

As soon as Gus is settled, I’m going to pursue Gracie’s long-term issue. There has to be a solution to her constant barfing.

Maybe…maybe not! Especially if it involve pills. But I will be rooting for you, no matter what!

Poor Gus! I hope he heals quickly and without all the drama Gracie described. I generally hope that the long acting injectable antibiotic will be the answer to all things, but too often it is not. Zoe does like pill pockets, at least so far.
Gracie is an excellent story teller. Happy Weekend to everyone!

I asked for (but did not get) the long acting injectable antibiotic. From this vet practice, I get the story that it isn’t as effective. My other vet prefers to use it. I should check to see if Gus likes pill pockets. These dang pills are very big. Not sure one pocket would do it.
