Gracie here. It’s been a helluva morning here. Morgan had a vet appointment for 8 a.m. That was a stupid time for the peep. She wanted to feed Morgan well before the appointment, so she was up at 6 a.m. We all enjoyed an early breakfast. Morgan disappeared for a while which made the peep crazy (we love when she gets like that! It’s so humorous!)
Eventually Morgan got crated up (and was not happy about that). She sang the song of her people all the way to the vet. Unlike me who quiets down when the peep puts AC/DC on the radio, nothing soothed Morgan.
Morgan is healthy, she just needed her vaccines, but the cost of the visit brought tears to the eyes of the peep. She feels sad because there are peeps out there who can’t afford vet care.
That’s not the big excitement though. On Wednesday, around 10 p.m., when the peeps were watching TV (one was and the other was sleeping in an upright position) Sasha came sauntering in the room with Gus on her heels. Something was going on with the two of them. Then the peep saw a skinny black tail coming out of Sasha’s mouth. Sasha caught a mouse.
This is a miracle as that two-ton tony isn’t very athletic. Must have been an old mouse. With arthritis. Or maybe senile. Gus was right there just in case it escaped from the jaws of death.
The lady peep went her usual bonkers self and started screaming at the peacefully sleeping male peep (who never woke up). She tried to grab the mouse with her hands but the mouse was deep in Sasha’s fur and every time she thought she had it, it got away. (Very Keystone Cops scene).
She got out her trusty but primitive mouse catching kit (a deli cup and a piece of cardboard to slip underneath it). She caught it and rehomed it in the front yard where it will find its way back inside.
Life turned boring again. Gus and Sasha were bickering over who could have taken better care of their new friend. Morgan (the real mouser in the house) was nowhere to be found. Maybe she has retired and gone on Social Security.
Anyway, that’s all the news that’s fit to print! Have a great weekend.

Oh my gosh – that was way too much excitement for sure!

Eek! Sounds like your peep handled it well. I would have not handled it so well…

Mice in the house are common here. You would get over it fast.

Hi, Gracie – Thank you for another adventure-filled post. The Peep could never truly be mad at you – even if you accidentally spilled a garbage can…or two!

I am seeing in comments you had another mouse! Well, Gus had a mouse. Better you Sassy Cats get them than have them die in a wall or somewhere you can’t find them and suffer mice stink…pewwww! I am glad that Morgan had a successful visit to the V.. E.. T. Hope you have a quiet weekend… well, maybe not cause it’s pretty boring here and it seems to be more fun at your house, Gracie.

The peep is mad at me now. I dumped the garbage can. Twice. I thought I smelled some rotisserie chicken in there but she said no.

Yeah, she had just washed up the kitchen floor too. Makes her cranky. She yelled at me. She never yells at us cats.

That poor mouse! And that poor female peep! Scary!
Sounds like things are staying real over there hahaha.

A very exciting week you all had. But I feel for your peep. Maybe you guys should be extra cuddly this week to soothe her nerves!

Not likely. Gus got another mouse early this morning, like at 2 a.m. The peep would prefer he do this during the day when she is already up.

Never a dull moment with a house full of kitties. The other cats and the humans provide plenty of fodder for your weekly blog post Gracie. Nice story with the mousie … poor Peep. She is very brave to catch it in Sasha’s fur – much braver than me.
I had a really big mousie in my backyard last Friday, one that is bigger than a breadbox (oh maybe not quite THAT big). The generator guy was there for the annual visit/tune-up and I was telling him my groundhog story, since he was there last year when I discovered the groundhog burrow. He was laughing (at my expense that I paid $150.00 to release the two ‘possums caught in the groundhog trap), then pointed out the dead beast near the generator – yikes! He said it was there for a while – double yikes! I decided to wait until garbage day, grab it with a shovel and put it out in the garbage. I dwelled on that task for two days, then went around the backyard and it was gone. Called my neighbor whom I know could not have seen it from his yard, but I had to know, so I asked “were you in my yard and picked up this beast or did a bigger beast come along and eat it?” He said “I shot that rat with my BB-gun last week and wondered where it went – sorry! And yes, rats eat other rats.” OMG is all I can say.

Yikes. We had another mouse early this morning. It’s on the front porch waiting for disposal. This one Gus killed.

Yikes is right. Thank goodness for the cats! But what a way to be greeted before you’ve had your morning coffee.

Good update Gracie. Your Peeps need a quiet weekend after all that excitement. I’m glad the mouse was saved.

Sounds like an exciting week. Glad Morgan is healthy. Sorry the peep took your mouse away. I would have let you finish the job first. Actually, I would have been on a chair screaming and let my hubby deal with it. Have a nice weekend.

My hubby slept through it all even with me yelling (mostly at the cats).

You know Gracie, a little compassion for your Peep might be in order. Mice might not bother you all that much, but believe me when I say, seeing one can turn a girl’s hair white. And how bout the poor mouse who can’t help that he’s not George Clooney, welcomed in every household.
I think it’s so sweet that your Peep feels for other Peeps who can’t afford those hefty vaccines costs. You should really give her more credit. I’m just saying.

I never get involved in the mousecapades but the peep does ok. She’s quite the mouser herself.

Is that the best you can do Gracie? I mean really. She’s a jewel, and then some. If you don’t mind me saying, who else would put up with a Diva like you.

I AM NOT THE DIVA! Sasha is the diva. I’m the empress the rules the realm. Sasha sashays around looking for kissy face.

Seems I’ve hit a nerve. As for Sasha, I don’t here a peep out of him regarding either of your Peeps. You can’t fool me Gracie, you diva you.

It’s beginning to be the season when little ‘meeces’ want to come indoors to get/stay warm. I’m waiting for Morty to pop his head out of the compost bin, blink widely at me and then dive, dive, dive back in the safety of egg shells and the various bio stuff. Hopefully this season’s Morty will abide by the ranch rule, no admittance in the house. 🤞🏼
Glad Morgan had a goo vet visit. You’re right, the cost of vet care seems to have taken a leap as if it’s Wall Street. Oh yeah, I vaguely remember the line from that movie: “greed is good.” Sigh.

The vaccines have jumped since last year. I’m thinking of looking into getting them at our local drugstore (which does pet vaccines). Not for all but for Morgan who has zero health issues. The rest have various stuff going on so it’s good for them too see a vet periodically. Morgan is good for 3 years so I have time to think about it (and she has time to develop a health issue!).

Paws crossed you can administer yourself and she stays healthy.

The drugstore personnel would administer or perhaps they have a vet tech come in on special days.

EWWWW on a mouse in the cat’s mouth. But glad you rescued it. Our vet now starts office hours at 7 am….surgery drop off at 7 as well. It is an inhuman hour to have to take the cats to the vet.

For Gus’ surgery at the specialty ER vet, the drop off time was 7 a.m. Although I’m an early riser, I’m not necessarily lucid at that hour anymore. When I worked I always asked for the first appointment so I wouldn’t lose too much work time. No more!

A mouse has to be unbelievable stupid to move into a house with 4 cats already in residence. Just saying.

The peep’s mouse-catching kit sounds very like my bug-in-the-house catching kit (when I’m not in a squashing mood, that is.) The excitement never ends, does it? 😄

My husband would like to borrow Morgan to handle the rats in the yard or crawl space. None of our cats–or dogs!–have ever been good at catching them.

Sasha is not exactly in shape being slightly overweight and soft of muscle. Morgan is an excellent mouser. Gus always wants to but so far he hasn’t landed any himself. If I can get an airline ticket, I’ll send one out for you.
