It’s been hot. Almost hot enough to fry an egg on the driveway. Certainly too hot for any self-respecting cat to do much except eat, poop and sleep. My cats are champion sleepers (and poopers and eaters!). Most of my pictures are of them sleeping. All but Hazel sleep deeply without concern. Hazel is more alert and wakes up when she hears anyone walking nearby (nearby is defined as within three miles). Morgan on the other hand, will sleep through a war or a zombie apocalypse. I have already touched her totally startling her from a deep sleep. Wish I could bottle that and sell it.
Gracie is a good sleeper too. If she doesn’t want to be disturbed she sleeps under the bed but she will also sleep on any cushioned (must be cushioned) horizontal surface.

Hazel, on the other hand, does not mind a hard surface. Here she is hanging with her peeps at the edge of the dining room table (where she is not allowed).
Everyone here wishes you a great weekend!
Author’s note: A frequent commenter went to spam today. I have no idea why. Hopefully you won’t have that issue. I will check periodically to rescue anyone stuck in that purgatory!
Your babies are beautiful. Mine does the same. Leo is my firstborn kitty , a lion like rescue. Then Leo rescued Snosey (who looks like a panda) and Hubby’s second rescue and my last born Jag, who looks like a black Jaguar is the baby of the family. Every morning at 4, he finds me to sleep on my chest. When we found him he was the size of my palm and grew up sleeping on me.
We are so blessed, poop and all.π€

I’ve always been grateful that cats sleep so much considering all the trouble they can get into when they are awake!

Good point. Sometimes I hear a crash and I’m afraid to look.

I like Morgan’s pretzel pose the best! I love watching both cats and dogs sleep. I always wonder about their dreams. π Hoping it cools for them–and for us, too, soon! Way too hot!

It’s cooled off here. We didn’t hit 70 today and are not expected to hit 60 tomorrow. It was 93 36 hours ago! The cats do dream. They sometimes talk or shake their paws while they sleep. Sometimes they wake up abruptly too like maybe a nightmare. (Like running out of tuna!)

Hazel brings her cushions with her. It’s the advantage to being a bit rounder than the vet likes. Also, of course, sleeping anywhere you aren’t supposed to be makes it more comfy. There’s probably an equation for that in a cat’s head. π

I am about to head to bed and your cats would find me very boring in my sleep positions. They sure looked comfortable and cozy and made me long for a nap.

My positions are boring too unless I’m trying to sleep with a cat stretched out across the bed. Then I look sort of like a pretzel myself.

Sounds like what my cat-friend Carol writes about on Facebook. Sometimes all three of them may end up on her bed, taking up most of it, leaving her just a small corner. π

Fortunately having a cat sleep with me is rare. Mollie always did but either it’s too hot or something but she hasn’t been there for a while. Gracie has done it 3 or 4 times in the past year and a half. That is not comfortable for me because she ends up on me instead of the bed. Argh!

Hi, Kate – Awesome photos. They made me totally jealous of that wonderful, care-free, deep sleep. Yes, if you could bottle this up and sell it, you would not know what to do with all of your cash!

I would have to donate it to the animal shelter. It’s only right! π

None of my cats are deep sleepers. Probably because they know I always have a camera in hand. Our dog on the other hand, he can sleep through anything!! It helps that he’s now hard of hearing of course.

That makes a difference. My old cat, who was always alert when sleeping, was able to sleep deeply as he got older because he couldn’t hear anything.

I love your cat photos. π They are so good at sleeping and getting comfortable. Not like me as I toss and turn…

I wish I was as good as they are. Clearly sleeping in this house is an Olympic sport!

I always enjoy pictures of your cats. It’s amazing the ways they can twist themselves into positions that look excruciating. And then sleep!!!!

I love when they get up. They stretch out every muscle in their body. Something that we should do too.

I love your pictures. We now have only one cat Tilly. She is a light sleeper but seems to be able to fall asleep within about five minutes in any position. I wish I could.

Aww, I love pictures of sleeping cats and the positions they seem to find comfortable! The Sassy Cats look very comfortable! I want to sleep as peacefully as Gracie looks!

Gracie is the most self confident cat I’ve ever had. She has no idea she’s a little peanut and will challenge anyone. She’s also quite vocal about her wants.

We could learn so much about the art of relaxation from a cat! I wish I had a cat’s flexibility … ability to sleep anywhere!
I love the first photo of Gracie. That’s just pure elegance in repose π

I just love to see a cat in a deep sleep. It means they feel safe. Morgan is best at it. I once startled her awake and she hit me as a reflex because I was too close. Won’t do that again!

As I was reading this, I happened to look over at Theo and laughed out loud at his pretzel position.
I too love seeing a cat in a deep sleep. It makes me oddly happy to know Theo feels safe π

Boss Cat is all about the temperature. She starts in a ball and unwinds as it gets hotter, until she’s on her back, feet splayed.
To touch her tummy, though, is to invite death.

There are definite hot and cold poses. Even though the house has a/c they will often stretch out. On the porch they love the hard tile. It’s always cool. Still they lie on their back with the feet splayed. Morgan will bunny kick you to death if you touch her belly twice. The first time gets a hairy eyeball (just one! π )

One of our cats sleeps like Morgan. I keep asking her why. Doesn’t it give you a neck ache? Isn’t it hard to breathe like that? (She ignores me and doesn’t answer. SUCH a cat!)

I love your descriptions–and the pictures! I hear that cats sleep 20 hours out of every day. They must be very efficient to cram in all that eating, pooping, grooming, and social interacting in the other four. Have a great weekend, Kate! β€

It varies with age. The older the more sleep. This summer Gracie finally started taking a morning nap until noonish. I did the happy dance. I like to get my work done in the morning and she wanted to play.
