Sasha the magnificent here. It’s been an interesting week. Gus and I decided to train the peep into different mealtimes. Because of me barfing breakfast, she was convinced I was eating too fast. Probably true. I like my food.
First, she tried a food mat to make me eat slower. In her words, “that was a freaking mess.” I still barfed probably from frustration.
Then she started to split my breakfast. She feeds me in a different room from Gus and adds a kibble topping (my favorite but Gus can’t have kibble). She has her coffee and then I get the rest of my breakfast. Gus doesn’t get a second one, so he whines but she ignores him. Gus’s whining isn’t as effective or loud as mine.
For dinner we got her to believe we were starving earlier than usual. It’s very dramatic. I wish I had pictures. Now she feeds us earlier. After an early dinner, there was no way we could go overnight without a snack. It all went as planned. The peep thinks feeding us is a full-time job but what else does she have to do. All it took was some perfectly placed barfs and sad eyes. Oh yes, and a lot of whining.
She said if I barf again, we’ll have to revisit this schedule, and she may give me another kind of food (which will be less tasty!). I’m trying to do my part.
The worst part is there will be a V-E-T visit for sure.
So, in a nutshell we went from two meals a day to four and on our terms (with only one caveat). Score! Now I must figure out what a caveat is.

Oh Sasha…you sure know how to push your mama’s buttons. We hope the barfing issue gets resolved soon.

So does she. It makes her crazy! We go through a lot of food.

I’m glad you will be going to the vet (I know I’m an enemy) because when smaller meals or slower eating don’t help, it’s time to get a medical opinion. I hope the vet can solve the problem.

We do too. The peep says I go 10 days without, then barf for 2 or 3 days in a row. She says it’s almost time for a checkup so I’m getting my songs ready to sing in the car.

Well, you’re running an à la carte restaurant (whether or not you knew this) so of course patrons can dine whenever they want!

And almost constantly too! I may need to hire help!

Sasha, I really like your confidence … you go girl! Especially funny this week was this line: “The peep thinks feeding us is a full-time job but what else does she have to do.” To be honest, I think the peep has a lot of patience, don’t you?

She doesn’t need patience with us. We are delightful! Her life would be dull without us.

Sounds like a perfect plan Sasha, just hope your Peep has some time for herself.

Great post…………………………… apart from the barfing!

To celebrate, Sasha did a little spit up. No food, just saliva! If she keeps this up, it’s to the vet for sure.

OK – I laughed all the way through this one…….you cats are taking advantage of your human! Four meals a day – she probably doesn’t even have time to visit the bathroom! I’m thinking this schedule won’t be lasting long. Good luck gang – can’t wait to see how this works out…….
Hugs, Pam (and Teddy who I tried to keep from reading this – he does not need 4 meals a day—period!)

They are the old meals split up with just a little big extra so no biggie! We deserve it!

You know Sash, she’s the geisha of Peeps the way she tries to please you and Gus. And men always whine, with or without tails.

Okay this sounds like a workable schedule, Sasha! Don’t blow it! You have the Lady Peep catering to you for sure now. Is the Lady Peep getting any sleep? A nap?

Sasha, tell the peep you are incorrigible. I know you will choke on that word. She will just think you are going to barf again.

Does that come with a tiara? Will I be famous?

Kate, you are famous in your own right. Yes, if you have a tiara, do wear it. Oct. 31 might be a good date for that.

LOL Cats are so funny. I think it’s hilarious how they whine when their food gets down to an iffy looking level.

Yes! I have another cartoon that shows the reasons cats won’t eat their food. It’s hilarious and I’ll post it sometime.

According to the excellent certified cat behaviorist, cats eat small amounts often the day when they aren’t being controlled by us folk. I did that with foster Pumpkin who had to lose so much weight. Four small meals a day so she wasn’t hangry all the time. So maybe the smaller four meals a day is just the ticket. Hope so!

One week and it’s working. Sasha is not shy about letting me know when it’s time.

I hope it continues to work. If she’s not hungry all the time maybe she won’t need to eat so quickly.

In this house, things work for a limited time and we’re back to square one. She is sleeping a lot. Much more than Gus who pesters me because his buddy is sleeping! I know, she’s a cat.
