Sasha the magnificent here. It’s been an interesting week. Gus and I decided to train the peep into different mealtimes. Because of me barfing breakfast, she was convinced I was eating too fast. Probably true. I like my food.
First, she tried a food mat to make me eat slower. In her words, “that was a freaking mess.” I still barfed probably from frustration.
Then she started to split my breakfast. She feeds me in a different room from Gus and adds a kibble topping (my favorite but Gus can’t have kibble). She has her coffee and then I get the rest of my breakfast. Gus doesn’t get a second one, so he whines but she ignores him. Gus’s whining isn’t as effective or loud as mine.
For dinner we got her to believe we were starving earlier than usual. It’s very dramatic. I wish I had pictures. Now she feeds us earlier. After an early dinner, there was no way we could go overnight without a snack. It all went as planned. The peep thinks feeding us is a full-time job but what else does she have to do. All it took was some perfectly placed barfs and sad eyes. Oh yes, and a lot of whining.
She said if I barf again, we’ll have to revisit this schedule, and she may give me another kind of food (which will be less tasty!). I’m trying to do my part.
The worst part is there will be a V-E-T visit for sure.
So, in a nutshell we went from two meals a day to four and on our terms (with only one caveat). Score! Now I must figure out what a caveat is.

Sasha, tell the peep you are incorrigible. I know you will choke on that word. She will just think you are going to barf again.

LOL Cats are so funny. I think it’s hilarious how they whine when their food gets down to an iffy looking level.

Yes! I have another cartoon that shows the reasons cats won’t eat their food. It’s hilarious and I’ll post it sometime.

According to the excellent certified cat behaviorist, cats eat small amounts often the day when they aren’t being controlled by us folk. I did that with foster Pumpkin who had to lose so much weight. Four small meals a day so she wasn’t hangry all the time. So maybe the smaller four meals a day is just the ticket. Hope so!

One week and it’s working. Sasha is not shy about letting me know when it’s time.
