Sasha the magnificent here! It’s a rainy day. The peep says we need the rain. Good day to snooze (but we do that every day!). It was a boring week — no DIY projects or contractors. Mr. squirrel only visited once. We are settling into summertime. Interesting birds visiting the feeder and bushy flowers obscuring views. The hummingbirds don’t seem to like what the peep planted on the deck. We haven’t seen any yet. There was no catnip planted. We are calling Cat Protective Services. This is just wrong.

Back to our nap.

  6. Mr. Squirrel wasn’t there today as he doesn’t want to have a bad fur day by coming out in the rain! Hopefully, he is not spooked by firecrackers in the neighborhood. We have had firecrackers (big ones) going off almost nightly in the ‘hood since Memorial Day (yes Memorial Day). I used to go to Council Point Park on the 5th of July and see spent fireworks, not just firecrackers, everywhere – I always figured it shortened the Park critters’ lives bigtime.

    • Fortunately cats are not as reactive to fireworks (or maybe they are not close enough to be super loud). We had some limp ones a week ago but this area doesn’t seem to do as many as when we lived on the edge of the city.

      • You’re lucky you don’t have to listen to them, but the noise is one thing, the worry of them landing somewhere worries me more. Last night, around midnight, I heard firecrackers (big ones) close by and it landed and made a boom. I got up as I was sure I smelled smoke. I also thought it could be a transformer blew – we’ve had that happen before and start a fire. I looked outside, saw nothing, climbed back into bed, didn’t fall asleep as I was wondering “is a firecracker smoldering on the roof?” We had that happen about 25 years ago – the handyman was cleaning the gutters, brought down the shingle to show my mom and me how it scorched it and made a hole. They start every night around 10:00.

          • I wish our neighborhood abided by that rule – they don’t enforce anything here. I feel for the veterans with PTSD; some vets put signs on their lawn hoping to deter people from setting them off. I was at the grocery store today and in the parking lot there was a huge tent with banners everywhere touting all the big fireworks they were selling and they were discounted – the more, the merrier. I think I mentioned a previous Michigan governor said our residents crossed into Ohio to buy fireworks so why should Michigan lose the revenue, so he allowed the sale of fireworks of every kind.

            • That’s what happened in Pennsylvania. They used to be banned and people drove to New Jersey to buy them so they changed the law to get the sales tax from them. Soundless “fireworks” are available done with drones. I hope eventually, communities will use those instead.

              • That’s interesting that you had the same scenario there. We never had the large fireworks back then – only now that they set up the huge tents in parking lots and street corners. I like to see the drone shows. When the Detroit Lions were in the playoffs they had a few of those drone shows on social media and they were amazing and a lot safer/quieter. As of now, we have rain and storms throughout the holiday weekend, so hopefully that puts a damper on the local fireworks. They can shoot them off here legally the day before/after and day of all major holidays, but no one abides by those ordinances.

  11. Sasha, boring sounds very good! No catnip planted? What was the Lady Peep thinking? I have probably mentioned this before BUT we don’t see hummingbirds here. I know they are here but we haven’t seen one. It’s not for lack of plants to hum around. Enjoy your weekend, Sassy Cats and Peeps!
