This is an old post from November 2021. Gracie (RIP) wrote it. We were having our kitchen redone and had ordered new chairs for the kitchen table. Anything new in this house with new smells creates a commotion with the cats.
Gracie here: New chairs! First to hurl a hairball is the winner.
The dining chairs the peep ordered seven months ago finally came. They are virgin chairs. No one has barfed on them yet.
They are stored in an upstairs bedroom until the kitchen is done. All of us spent considerable time smelling them. There were interesting smells. The delivery man may have a dog. Or maybe he stepped in dog poop. Hard to say. It wasn’t long before the chairs looked like this.
And this!
The peep covered them with towels. We have a contest to see who barfs first. It’s usually me but Morgan and Gus were giving it a try. Sasha has been smelling but so far no nap. They will remain shrouded until they make their public debut around the new table. The peep wants them clean at least for the first day. No worry though. One of us will toss a hairball. It’s just a matter of time! Place your bets!
PS: It would have been awesome if they came in boxes! Just sayin’
Editor’s Note: None of the cats barfed on them. The beloved husband christened them with fried chicken pieces!

Cute post and beautiful chairs!!

Thanks. Gus will occasionally sit on them now but other than when they had the towel protecting them, they aren’t a big draw for the cats.

I know, Kate. Still missing Z Cat and she has been gone since January 2009. I still think of her every day and miss her more than words can say. I feel lucky to still have my parked doing nothing blog with her pictures and posts about. her. I don’t think we ever quit missing them.

Surprise! We think we know what will happen but with cats you never QUITE do…..they left the chairs alone and the husband was the first to add a little something to the chairs – chicken grease! I wonder if the cats had a good chuckle about that! LOL

Gracie was quite the commentator when it came to goings-on in the house. I do remember the new chairs and how there were threats about how to christen and funny the beloved husband was the one to christen them in the end!

Yes, you commented on the original post. It was fun looking at the commentors. So many have stopped blogging and I miss them. Some I wonder what happened. I even looked up one person and she shut down her blog completely.

It is sad – several people I’ve followed for years have recently shut down their blogs. A few have passed away or had illness in the family, so they no longer post or comment. I think I mentioned to you about Nancy (Zazamataz). We would exchange funny memes or videos with one another sometimes by e-mail. She passed away in March 2025. I think you followed her. I felt badly as she said on her last post around Christmastime that if we didn’t hear from her, …. (and just left it like that).

Yes, I remember her. There was Jill Wetherholt too who left to write books (and has been quite prolific!). There was a cat lady from one of the Carolinas. She just vanished in the night. There are so many.

I had two nice nature photographers I followed and both have left WP; Peggy was blind in one eye and found it difficult to keep reading/commenting and the other one, Sabine, took online acrylic painting classes during COVID, so she stopped blogging and takes in-person art classes now. Peggy does beautiful charcoal drawings and we keep in touch with e-mail, same as Sabine. They encouraged me to draw and paint. The blogging world is not the same as when I started, that’s for sure.

Isn’t it amazing the great friends you make through blogging. I have a few I email with. Even some that are no longer around on WordPress.

Yes, it is wonderful to have such friendships off the blog as well. Sabine and her husband got two German Shepherds and they were training them and spent a lot of time walking them in the woods as well. She had a beautiful perennial garden that she shared photos of in her blog, with a lot of hummingbirds – it looked like paradise to me.

Perhaps the towels were the real attraction. They always love sitting on towels.
