Sassy cats — Sunspots

This was a week to seek out the healing sun and no one does it as well as cats.

Gus, Sasha and Morgan enjoying some sunshine in the cat room.

While going through my photos, I found this picture. Made my eyes leaky. This is Gracie about two weeks before she passed. She always loved her boxes. Fly free sweet Gracie!

Wishing you all a good weekend full of sunspots.

  1. I’d like a nice spot of sunshine like that to sit and ponder life. I have metal blinds on my windows and I didn’t raise them for a while when we had a very windy Summer (kind of like our recent weather, but this was all Summer), so they have all seized up because of that. Ever since then they are always in a down position. Yes, I don’t have to wash windows and yes, it is great for protection as no one can lift the shutters from the outside, so burglar-proof, but no sunshine comes into the house and I can’t let fresh air in either. Your cats look like a content bunch … the always inquisitive Gracie on a box. You had some sweet photos of her in a blue-and-white gingham box a while back that were very cute.

      • Yes it does – that part is not good, although it is cooler in Summer as the blinds have no light coming through them at all. In 2022 I got an instant-on generator so that helps because there were several power outages and there was zero light coming into the house unless I opened up the side or front door, so I had some battery-operated lanterns, but not it’s not a problem. I came home yesterday to find the digitals flickering – yes, after dealing with them all five days before. We have had high winds all week and I don’t know if that is why the power went out. I checked the generator log and it was only out for three minutes though. When my mom was here, she was a stickler for clean windows. She would be on the inside with her mop handle (she was short), pointing to places I had missed, while I was on the outside grumbling. I don’t like climbing higher than the second step of the ladder so I used a hose spray with soap to wash the windows and a squeegee, but it wasn’t perfect.

  2. What is it with cats and boxes? That’s a very sweet picture of Gracie and I love the cat room (as do the cats, apparently). I imagine you’ll have leaky eyes for a while.

  3. When the pain of loss is still fresh and raw, coming across those pics act like a digger to the heart. In time, it will get better. Gentle thoughts of comfort to you for your sweet Gracie. Enjoy those sun puddles this weekend.

    • Gracie seemed to make the best of her situation. At the rescue, she was in a large basement (bright and cheery, not dingy) with other older unadoptable cats (mostly because of health issues) and she got alone with everyone. Her time there was full of operations (eye removal and spay) and vaccines but she was still a happy cat. She must have been ok before that despite the hoarding situation. She seemed to be very people friendly. It was a case of people not spaying/neutering and ending up with more cats than they could manage. Also, no healthcare which is why several of the cats lost eyes through an infection that swept through the young cats.

  4. A most excellent cat room! Perfect sunlight… enough for sunspots and fun photos. I have some leaky eyes too. She was a great cat, Kate. Elegant I always thought or a deep thinker 🙂 Sending you hugs and for the Sassy Cats some scritches♥

  5. I hope so too! When we lost Skeamer I knew I wanted to get a pair. When we lost Trinity, Tyler being there helped with the unexpected loss. Guess I’ll know if I’m ready some day.

  6. What a wonderful cat room! Don’t think I’ve seen it before but it’s perfect and the cats seem to know it. I still get weepy when I run across a photo of Sammy – and he flew to the Bridge in 2018…….they leave a mark on our hearts that stays…….

    Hugs, Pam

  7. I still have not been able to go through my photos of Tyler. After we lost SKeamer and Trinity I found comfort in the photos but this time I am not. Truly shows each furbaby is different and so is the way each of us grieves. I honestly don’t know if my heart can ever take getting another cat some day in the far off future. The hurt will have to do a whole lotta healing. Hope you all enjoy your sun spots 🙂

    • I know a lot of folks are reluctant to adopt after a painful loss. Having other pets helps me through it. I don’t think I could stand a quiet house without pets at this stage although I’m in a downsizing point of life. I have three and hope they stay healthy for a long time.
