Sassy cats – Is it the food?

Morgan: I did the best I could do. It was a fine hairball.

Gracie here. Another frustrating week for the peeps. We (the cats) tried our best to help. One day we had a three-cat barf session. Everyone barfed except Gus. Sasha did two major meal barfs, then was pesty because she was hungry. Usually when I barf, I have a bellyache and don’t want to eat which makes the peep crazy too. Morgan was trying to join the club. She rarely barfs but she hacked up a hairball. On the scope of hairballs, it wasn’t big, but it was the best she could do. The peep was wondering if the cat food manufacturer changed their formula to cause all this barfing. Who knows. Cats be cats but a new brand has appeared in the pantry.

Sasha: Wake me when GrubHub gets here.

We had a flood of new workers this week. Sasha would not come out from under the upstairs bed until everyone was gone. She didn’t even peep around corners. Don’t worry. She can tell when they leave. The last car doesn’t hit the main road before she is out complaining about the food service and looking up the GrubHub app.

Hope you all had a better week. See you next week!

    • I don’t get the new food. I wouldn’t eat it. I get rotisserie chicken and Fancy Feast (maybe if I eat it). I am a frequent flying barfer. There is no medical reason that they can find (I hear about all the money the peep has spent on tests) but I have good weeks and bad weeks. Having the other cats join me in a barfathon is unusual. Especially for Morgan. I have to give her lessons.

  1. Well I think the cats were having some kind of barf competition…..each trying to “outdo” the next….etc. Either that OR as some suggested the stress is getting to them with the reno project. Must be nice having that HUGE potty/dumpster combo is out of there! Hope the barf extravaganza is over with – you don’t need that on top of the rest that’s for sure……….

    Hugs, Pam

    • Hard to say. Gus sits in his bed and watches the workers come and go. Gracie sleeps all day except when she flirts with the carpenters. They call her one-eye and she loves it. Sasha is definitely stressed with them. I don’t think Morgan is but then again, they are cats. I’m thinking Friskies changed their formula. I’ll be trying it again today and see how it goes. Of course this happens after I buy 2 cases.

  2. I know it doesn’t help much now but once the workers are done and the peeps get everything back to normal I think there will be a whole lotta less barfing. The daily stress is hard on everyBODY. It will be back to Home Sweet Home and there is always the good news that the ants have been dealt with. Life is good with a good bug guy!

  3. Oh good God, my brain just cannot COMPUTE a three-cat barf. Single-cat ones are bad enough, doubles are (I imagine) dreadful, but three-cat barfing is just beyond comprehension.

  4. Dear Gracie, I feel so sorry for you and the other cats but if you could quietly talk to your buddies, tell them that barfing does not actually help the peeps or reduce their stress. Unless you can do it somewhere the construction workers are likely to step in it. That might be funny.

Dear Peeps, I once talked to Halo headquarters as the food that both cats loved suddenly and without warning became feline non grata. The very nice but not particularly helpful human at the company told me that the batch the cats wouldn’t eat was processed during the summer when “the vegetables were a little stronger and more flavorful.” The cats would never eat the food again so perhaps those veggies were extra flavorful from then on. That story doesn’t help you but then again, nothing really seems to with picky cats. I swear if I ever get another cat I’m going to feed it something cheap and probably made with doughnuts and pringles. It doesn’t matter how hard you try to find healthy and tasty.

Have you tried Purina ProPlan Tender Selects cat food. That is one I had fairly good luck with given that Zoe had to have her Fancy Feast and Charlie prefered crunchies. They both ate at least some of the tender selects.

    • Is that a dry? Gus can’t eat dry cat food so I don’t use it except for treats and occasionally for Gracie. They like Fancy Feast but the Friskies that they have loved has not loved them back. I bought them Blue Tasteful and they seem to love it. At least for this week. After all, they are cats. Donuts and pringles? With sprinkles on top?

      • No, I’m sorry. I thought they had all returned to crunchies except Gracie. ProPlan complete is the fancier version of Fancy Feast – or at least it’s priced that way. Zoe loved the chicken and pasta and tomatoes. Charlie really prefered crunchies so thank goodness he never had to eat wet food if he didn’t like it. The problem with the complete line is they kept dropping the flavors Zoe loved best. Friskies seemed like a solution until I bought it in quantity and neither would touch it again.

  5. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Apparently there had been a meeting (which Gus didn’t bother to attend) to give you lots of barfs to clean up so you’d be somewhat distracted from having all of those workers in the door, up the stairs and down the stairs and out the door all day!

Sasha was smart to stay hidden away from all of the remodeling chaos! She knew on instinct that it was just “too peoply out there!”

Hopefully, you’ll have a somewhat peaceful weekend before the chaos starts again next week!
