Sassy cats – The special diet debacle

That’s me taking a quick nap!

Gracie here. It was a frustrating week for the peep. It was all about the food. She is working to get Gus on a urinary track diet but to make it work, all the cats (except me) must eat it. They steal each other’s food. The other two (Morgan and Sasha) only like UR food when they don’t get it. Then they steal Gus’. If they get it in their dish, they turn their noses up.

The peep is rotating the special diet with the stuff they really love and it’s a challenge. I don’t play into this. My food is always “seeded” with rotisserie chicken or a few tasty kibbles. The other cats don’t like rotisserie chicken (and the peep likes it this way. In fact, she regrets the day she introduced me to it!).

The weather has been warming up. Windows get opened in places where us cats can sit and smell the outdoors. Big butt Gus tries to monopolize the sill space, but we all get our turn.

Speaking of big butts, Gus’ weight loss since January still stands at 2 pounds. Not too shabby for a cat but the peep can’t get the scale to scootch down a big. Another great news story is that Sasha also lost 2 pounds since January. All this happened by eliminating kibble free feeding. Us gray cats don’t have weight issues although Morgan has lost a little too.

Napping bunny style!

Our houseguest wasn’t able to make the trip this week as Denver was snowed in, and her flight was cancelled. Maybe next week. Sasha has her hidey spot picked out. Gus is looking forward to showing off his butt with the surgical scars. It gives him street cred! He is sure she will be impressed.

Wishing you all a great weekend eating the food you really love.

  1. I am surprised you are the only one that likes chicken. Almost all our cats love it. Thank you for the kind words you left on my blog for the passing of Lucy. XO

  2. Well, glad everyone is healthy and doing well. Love the pics, Gracie. So glad you still get your chicken. I guess everyone knows better than to mess with your food! Your poor peep, though. You should give her some extra cuddle time or maybe help her out on the computer!

  3. Gracie, clearly you are not a high-maintenance kitty, although the Peep does have to shred that rotisserie chicken. Do you get the whole chicken to yourself or the Peep sneaks in a nice chicken sandwich for herself and the beloved husband occasionally? Spring is around the corner … things to sniff and sun rays to warm you to the bone.

  4. Have you seen those bowls that the cat has to be wearing the collar that belongs to that bowl in order to open so he or she can eat? I’m sure they might be worth any cost if it would cut down on the stress of trying to be sure the right cat eats the right food.

  5. The bunny style pose is so cute. Hope the weather is good for your guests visit. It’s beautiful here and feels like spring, but next Wednesday we’re in for a big snowstorm. It’s not fair. Have a good weekend.

  6. So sorry your friend wasn’t able to come for a visit. Hopefully the plane ticket can be used next week once things melt a bit.

You guys sure have fun with food. Gus looks quite handsome after his procedure. Elsa said to remind him that ‘chicks’ dig scars’ so I’m sure his cuddle buddy will swoon even more. Have a great weekend.

  7. Have to laugh about the bunny style poses! THE best news that Gus is doing so well. It’s looking and sounding very normal there… with the exception of the crazy feeding schedule. At least it keeps your lady peep on her toes, Gracie! You truly are wishing us a great weekend when you are talking about the food we love. We go out of the way on weekends to eat good food! Grilling is the best.

  8. Let’s hear it for bunny style naps! WOO HOO! Ted’s fave position. Feeding different things to different cats is challenging I’m sure – I do have to say that I’m in the school of “whatever works” though for a routine. Too bad your company got caught up in this weirdo weather lately……perhaps Gus’s fur won’t have grown back TOO much so he can still show off his scar…..!

    Hugs, Pam
