Sassy cats – Gus the smooth operator

Gus hiding in the closet on day 4 here. August 2020

At first glance it appears that lady cat Sasha is in charge. She is indeed the alpha cat in most ways. She dictates to all of us when it is mealtime. Demands scratches or treats. Gus is always along for the ride. But, like any relationship, it’s not always what it looks like.

Gus is fine with having Sasha signal treat time and mealtime. He likes when she demands a new kicky toy. These all meet his needs too. His trouble puffs were snipped a long time ago so he is not aggressive, persuasive, but not aggressive.

Don’t be fooled. When he wants something, he knows how to get it. He can soothe Sasha with a face grooming, and she will do his bidding. He’s a Velcro cat that leaves no horizontal lap empty (at least not mine). He doesn’t care that his fur is impossible to remove and I’m leaving shortly for an appointment. Not his problem.

Move along! Nothing going on here.

He spent the first three months here without saying a word. Now he’s the rooster, waking us all up by 6 a.m. Cock-a-doodle-doo with whiskers. He’s verbal in his approval of the dining choice. He’s not fussy so he’s always pleased although I suspect he has his favorites. They are not the foods he is supposed to eat. Most people will understand that dietary quandary.

Yes, I am adorable. Not fetch me some ‘nip.

He knows how to look adorable and formidable, all at the same time. Sometimes he appears to have a smoking jacket on with a pipe in his paw playing the man of the manor. Other times he sleeps belly up without a care in the world like a three month old kitten. He is one of those cats that likes a good belly rub like a dog.

Be like Gus. Take charge when necessary but let it roll when it works. Nap with all paws in the air!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Just seeing Sasha The Magnificent and Smooth Operator together all cuddled up makes me happy, warm and content. I don’t think you have ever shared this info about Gus. He IS a little operator… an adorable little operator🧡 I am so happy they have each other and that they have a home forever with you and the Beloved Husband.

  2. Gosh – My Ted and your Gus must be brothers with other mothers……Ted pretends to be lazy but he’s totally aware of EVERYTHING……he rules the roost even though he’s an only cat – the humans here are at his mercy 24/7. I think it may be a “ginger thing” but I’m not sure…..just comparing notes with other ginger moms and it seems there’s a definite trend towards “my way or the highway but I still want to be babied”. I suspect you – like me – wouldn’t have it any other way. LOL Happy Friday!!!

    Hugs, Pam
