It’s the peep today. Sasha is recovering from her Tuesday surgery to remove a mass from her neck. She did fine. Me, not so much.

She has some good pharmaceuticals to help her, but she’s has been a great cat. No diva activity (at least not so far), no shaming, no screaming. She even ate the pills without issue. No hiding them or jamming them down her throat. She looked at them and said, “Oh look! Valentine hearts without the sayings or the heart shape!”

She has a vertical 2-inch incision on her neck where they cut it out. The vet didn’t cover it but after I saw her scratching the area, I thought it would be a good idea to keep it covered.

I tried a band aid (we have a large size) but it wouldn’t adhere to her skin. After some other fumbles I used a non-stick gauze patch on the stitches covered with a strip of tee shirt material going around her neck. This is a cat that’s never worn a collar. So far, she’s been good about it. Once we get out about a week, I won’t worry. Stitches come out in 14 days.

It affected Gus more than Sasha. He saw us cart her out around dark o-clock and we came back without her. He was not happy. He stuck to us like glue. When we picked her up (the same day) I put her in a room by herself. That didn’t make him happy either. By Thursday she was out and about with her “collar” and he’s happier. She’s happier too although she did ok isolated (mostly because of the fabulous pharmaceuticals!).

We’ll get the results of the biopsy in a week or two and hopefully it will be good news. We can return to normal programming with screaming, diva posturing and insane demands. The normal nonsense that goes on as life here.

They are back together. (They want you to know that the photographer’s lack of skill made their butts look larger than they are.

  1. Oh so happy to hear the lovers are BACK TOGETHER! I’m sure Gus could not understand her absence – now he can relax. The camera angle of that last photo of them from behind (excuse the word) is sweet……and I have noticed that if someone takes a photo of me from behind it makes my butt look big(ger) than it actually is – I’m sure it’s a faulty lens. Ahem. Stay cozy!

  3. Just the best news ever, Kate! Bestest news to come… praying for it to be good news. The tee shirt material is a great idea. Gus is not only good company but he keeps her busy, like looking out the window and he is so glued to her she probably won’t even think of messing with it. It’s wonderful they have each other. Normal nonsense sounds like the best thing ever! I can hardly wait for it to begin☺️

    • I would love a month of normal nonsense with no health issues furry or otherwise. It’s been a while since we’ve had that. Since I’m wishing I also wish we’d get some warm sunny weather.

  4. When Tyler had his mass removed from his neck, it was closed with staples. I didn’t want him scratching it and getting a nail stuck in the incision. I ended up buying baby onesies (he was a big boy) and cut them so they were lose and without a bottom. I didn’t want the area to hold in moisture but kept his foot from getting in there. Tyler’s was a silicone looking blob likely from a previous vet giving him a vaccine in the scruff. I thought I had pics of both but don’t see them. I know I’m not describing it very well. We also ended up having to put honey on his wound when the incision separated. I’m so glad Sasha did well.

    • I was worried about staples as it’s right over the jugular vein. That would not be good but they are stitches. I thought about a onesie but the incision is higher on her neck so it wouldn’t cover it. She tried to scratch it with her hind leg. They trimmed her nails but that still would not be good. So far the wrap is working. If I can hump through a week, I think it will be closed enough that she can’t do damage.

    • I’m not a fan of cones in general and rarely use them, but it this case the cone would sit directly on her stitches. The vet sent her home in a cone that was bloody by the time she got home. I left it open the first two days because she was still inactive from the anesthesia. As she became more active and wanted to “clean up” she needed something to protect it.

  7. Much love to Sasha. Really and sincerely. And to Gus as well. It is so so hard for we as their loving parents, and for the other fur siblings in a home. We suffer terribly when things go wrong.

    • That is their after breakfast neighborhood watch. Eventually Gus goes to the heated bed (which Sasha doesn’t like) and Sasha stays on the window bed for a nap. I bought new cushions last week and they are loving them.
