Gus has been here five years on August 1st. He was a great addition to the clowder. He was three at the time and constantly overlooked by potential adopters (and I don’t know why!) He’s mostly laid back although he will give Sasha the occasional ear nip if she gets out of control (which happens often!). He and Morgan aren’t besties but they co-exist nicely with only an occasional stare down. He photographs well too.
Like me he has a habit of sticking out a leg when he sleeps. I wonder if it help control his temperature (which is why I do it!).
No Sassy Cats post is complete without a shot of the lovers!
Wishing you all a great weekend.

He is such a handsome boy, and seems very good-natured too ๐ He definitely seems like a great addition to the clowder!

He’s pretty laid back. Once in a while he’ll slap Morgan’s rump or nip Sasha’s ear but I’m sure they deserve it. The rump slapping is funny.

Gus is so handsome, I can’t understand why he wasn’t adopted quickly. These are great photos. Hope you are enjoying the weekend.

I don’t know why either. He was in a room with 20 other cats but he was very friendly and came to people for scritches! They said he was a staff favorite yet no adoption.

Gus looks more than ready for his “Mr. DeMille close up” moment. What a sweet looking ginger. It’s hard to believe no one snagged him at the shelter…lucky you, Kate.

Well Gus is a hunk that’s for sure – he and Teddy look like twins although I think Ted may have a few pounds on Gus. A basket full of ginger is a basket full of love!!!

Gus weighs in at 15 pounds. He could stand to about 2 but he’s not fat. (He prefers fluffy!) He’s my first ginger and he is a love machine.

I’ve had several gingers in my life and they’ve all been love machines and very affectionate – also BIGGER than my other cats. Just more to love!!!

He does photograph well. What a cutie. Weird how no one wanted him. So glad he found you. Happy Gotcha Day!!! a couple of weeks early.

The rescue is a bit weird. They have the attitude that no one is good enough to adopt their pets. It took 6 weeks from when I applied to getting approved. They called all my references (that’s a good thing) and visited my house. Their contract was bizarre, cumbersome and illegal. Their hearts are good but they have a lot of roadblocks to adoption. Fortunately, I’m tenacious or I would have gone to another rescue. His picture and sad story was in the paper and stole my heart. The fact that he got along with other cats (necessary in my house) clinched the deal.

Aw. I’m so glad you got him. I would think they would want people to adopt, good people, but not make it too hard so that people would give up.

It worked out in the end. I just had to be patient. In contrast I adopted Hazel in an hour. Came with a carrier; filled out paperwork; loaded her up. They were glad to see her go because she would cower in the back of the cage making it harder for people to be attracted to her.

I’ve heard gingers are nearly always male. He just dangles that leg to look cute.

That is correct. Gingers are almost always male and calicos are almost always female. I think he was trying to look like Burt Reynolds in his centerfold picture. (I think you would remember that!) ๐

He is a good cat. We are a year out from his UR surgery and he’s been doing well. Not even a UTI. He gets along with the other two and in this house, that’s important.

Cheers to Gus and his five-year adoption anniversary. A round of cat grass or catnip for everyone to celebrate on the 1st, right Gus?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’ll pass on the catnip but they will appreciate. I had to get rid of the cat grass. It developed fungus gnats. Every pot got them and they are annoying. So poor Morgan won’t have that anymore.
LikeLiked by 1 person
You don’t want fungal gnats around as you have other plants and they’ll get in them. Morgan will get a new kicky stick then to make up for it!

Why are gingers generally FAT????? I thought someone might know. Good ratters by the way – very patient. Cheers. ~ Jeffrye the gentleman from Siam.

He thinks he’s fluffy rather than fat. Morgan the gray is the best mouser (we don’t have rats). He is my first ginger so I can only go by his characteristics. He’s very laid back and gets along with everyone. Not the trouble maker my tuxie is.

Is he named Gus after the theatre cat from TS Eliot? Sooo cute.
LikeLiked by 1 person
No. I was looking for a one syllable name that I could switch to two syllables if I was yelling. Gus to Gussy! His shelter name was Kenny but I had someone in my life with that name and it was a no go so Gus it is! He adapted very fast and is the only cat who will consistently answer to his name.

So sweet – I always think of “Gus the Theatre Cat” from “Cats.” TGIF to you and your clowder!

I didn’t think of that when I named him!

And the leg out thing is hilarious! I find myself doing that at times- maybe it IS some kind of temperature regulator!!!
One of my kitties likes to sleep in “the tunnel” portion of a large cat tower with BOTH back legs hanging out over the edge! She can stay like that for hours, snoring up a storm!!

maybe the leg is a kind of balance holder and prevents to get nightmares?

That may be right because of base of the basket is smaller than the top part so it can roll.

It is. He sleeps there a lot (crushing my top cushion!) and I love that he can sleep without worry. Morgan almost always sleeps with one eye (her only one) half open just in case.

“Sort of” is the best we can do with Sasha. I had to move her feeding area this morning because of ants. She had a lot to say about that. Not a fan of new venue.
