Sassy cats — Mostly Gus

Isn’t he a stud muffin?

Gus has been here five years on August 1st. He was a great addition to the clowder. He was three at the time and constantly overlooked by potential adopters (and I don’t know why!) He’s mostly laid back although he will give Sasha the occasional ear nip if she gets out of control (which happens often!). He and Morgan aren’t besties but they co-exist nicely with only an occasional stare down. He photographs well too.

He likes to look down on me from the top of the sofa.

Leg out!

Like me he has a habit of sticking out a leg when he sleeps. I wonder if it help control his temperature (which is why I do it!).

No Sassy Cats post is complete without a shot of the lovers!

Wishing you all a great weekend.

  1. Well Gus is a hunk that’s for sure – he and Teddy look like twins although I think Ted may have a few pounds on Gus. A basket full of ginger is a basket full of love!!!

    • The rescue is a bit weird. They have the attitude that no one is good enough to adopt their pets. It took 6 weeks from when I applied to getting approved. They called all my references (that’s a good thing) and visited my house. Their contract was bizarre, cumbersome and illegal. Their hearts are good but they have a lot of roadblocks to adoption. Fortunately, I’m tenacious or I would have gone to another rescue. His picture and sad story was in the paper and stole my heart. The fact that he got along with other cats (necessary in my house) clinched the deal.

    • That is correct. Gingers are almost always male and calicos are almost always female. I think he was trying to look like Burt Reynolds in his centerfold picture. (I think you would remember that!) ๐Ÿ™‚

    • He is a good cat. We are a year out from his UR surgery and he’s been doing well. Not even a UTI. He gets along with the other two and in this house, that’s important.

    • I’ll pass on the catnip but they will appreciate. I had to get rid of the cat grass. It developed fungus gnats. Every pot got them and they are annoying. So poor Morgan won’t have that anymore.

      • You don’t want fungal gnats around as you have other plants and they’ll get in them. Morgan will get a new kicky stick then to make up for it!

  2. Why are gingers generally FAT????? I thought someone might know. Good ratters by the way – very patient. Cheers. ~ Jeffrye the gentleman from Siam.

    • He thinks he’s fluffy rather than fat. Morgan the gray is the best mouser (we don’t have rats). He is my first ginger so I can only go by his characteristics. He’s very laid back and gets along with everyone. Not the trouble maker my tuxie is.

    • No. I was looking for a one syllable name that I could switch to two syllables if I was yelling. Gus to Gussy! His shelter name was Kenny but I had someone in my life with that name and it was a no go so Gus it is! He adapted very fast and is the only cat who will consistently answer to his name.

  3. He is SO CUTE!!!

And the leg out thing is hilarious! I find myself doing that at times- maybe it IS some kind of temperature regulator!!!

One of my kitties likes to sleep in “the tunnel” portion of a large cat tower with BOTH back legs hanging out over the edge! She can stay like that for hours, snoring up a storm!!

    • It is. He sleeps there a lot (crushing my top cushion!) and I love that he can sleep without worry. Morgan almost always sleeps with one eye (her only one) half open just in case.
