Sassy cats — Kerfuffles and squirmishes

This is from this morning (Friday) so there are no hard feelings.

It’s the peep today. It’s been a week of almost constant rain. I have mushrooms growing on my body to prove it!

When I was a child in school the nuns always said that kids got rumbunctious when the weather was stormy. Cats do too. There were scuffles and disagreements. Ear nips and hisses. Mostly Gus was the aggressor but Sasha and Morgan were instigators too.

One ear splitting event happened when Gus tried to be amorous. Sasha is not a fan of anyone climbing on her back and she doesn’t put up with it even when it’s her favorite love bug (especially without dinner and flowers first). Gus thought love was in the air. I find it humorous because my last male cat did not hump, try to hump or do anything remotely like that. This is all new to me. Gus was neutered young but it seems like there is a drop of male hormone in his (hopefully) empty sack. He would never try with Morgan. She would give him a whomping.

Gus and Morgan peacefully share cat grass.

Morgan was intensely watching a bug and Gus got too close. There was a stare down with soft growls and posturing that lasted until Gus backed off. All this is strange for my usually affable cats. I’m chalking it up to the weather. Even though they never go out, they had cabin fever.

Predictions for next week are warm and sunny. I’m hopeful the shenanigans will end or at least these kinds of shenanigans. They will go back to arguing over who gets to sit on the bag, the prime window seat or my lap. Usual stuff.

Wishing you all a beautiful weekend with or without rain, depending on what you need.

  1. Gus is giving you a mad look as you took that first picture. We had a rainy week too, although they predicted on-off-rain for Wednesday through Friday, but it didn’t happen ’til much later in the day, but we do have a rainy scenario for Wednesday through Friday again – the fourth week in a row for the same rain pattern. We are also now dealing with the wildfire smoke in the sky, though nothing like it was like in 2023.

  2. It’s been wet, wet and more wet here too……but at least with just one cat aboard no skirmishes! We’ve spent much of this wet week on the front porch – Teddy on the loveseat and us in rockers. Watching the rain, watching the grass get ridiculously long since I can’t mow, watching MORE rain……sigh. Life goes on though and summer can’t be too far away right?

    Hugs, Pam

  3. Lucky kitties, that is nice cat grass. Our cats have been acting the same, but they do no matter what the weather is.

  4. Cute photos. Glad you’ll be getting more sun next week. It’s been hot here, but temps will be cooler by Sunday. No rain here. Hope you have a great weekend!

  5. Sassy Cats need some sunshine! I can feel their vibe. Constant rain, no sun. Dark and dreary. I love a day like that in the fall but it gets old. Doesn’t happen here much. Gus and Sasha… they are bonded would you say? It’s interesting to see Morgan and Gus sharing cat grass. Lovely photos of the Sassy Cats.

  6. More thunderstorms this evening, and I hope that’s the last for awhile. We needed the rain, but I absolutely loved this morning with sun and coolish temps. Perfect for dog walks. Bring on the sun, please.

  7. I would say definitely the weather is to blame. Changes in atmospheric pressure is bound to have an effect.
It’s been warm here today and a bit muggy, so Maya’s not too happy. I’ve got the fan going in the lounge and she’s lying to one side of it.

  8. Oh Gus…yeah, my money is on either of the female cats. Here’s hoping it’s just a weather/barometric pressure glitch. Here’s hope for peace to reign again soon. It rained several days here too and was nice and cool. Warming trend to begin which will likely curtain afternoon extended walks for the walking fur coat. I’ll be glad when he gets groomed in 10 days. Have a great weekend.

  9. When I read “One ear splitting event . . .” I visualized it literally ~ that one cat had sliced and diced another cat’s ear. OUCH!

Then I realized you meant a cacophony of caterwauling occurred. Noise can indeed seem ear splitting!

Hope they are all on their best behavior again soon!

  10. Out here it seems to be the wind that makes creatures crazy. Or at least that’s what my son’s veteran fifth grade teacher said. Normally we have a solid breeze coming onshore from the west. But when it shifts and the Santa Ana’s blow out of the desert, the kids acted up.
