It’s winter here. Bleah! (My apologies to those who may actually like winter.) We feed the birds and have a heated bird bath for water which was popular this week. It’s a bird version of Disney on my deck.
It makes for great cat TV too. This next shot is very blurred but it’s what my cats see when they look out the office window. It’s Izzie and Whiskers from next door basking in the nonexistent sunshine.
Also great cat TV.
They say that pets and owners resemble each other (I check my face for fur everyday!). Here is a shot of Gus sleeping. He sleeps just like I do with one foot out to regulate temperature.
The obligatory couple shot.
Have a great weekend!

As always, adorable pics of your cats 🙂 I just ordered a heated bird bath too – that is a great idea for winter!

We enjoy the activity. Sometimes the birds are having a pool party in there!

That must be so nice to see! I worry about our birds getting water at this time of year, though of course I know they are getting it from somewhere.

More birds die from lack of water than lack of food in the winter but they are resourceful.

I did not know that! Double glad I have a heated bird bath on the way now

I just love seeing the love birds snoozing together. Bless you for providing for the neighborhood birds with food and water. No doubt they appreciate it. The squirrels would bankrupt me before any birds got satiated. Stay warm, we’re freezing in D-town. Only single digits by noon today. 🥶

There is corn for the squirrels although they will have a taste of the sunflower seeds too. Freezing here too. Our nighttime lows are single digits. Unusual for us.

Hi, Kate – What’s that white stuff in the first photo? I don’t want to jinx myself but we haven’t yet had one flake of snow in our corner of Vancouver Island this winter. I have my fingers and toes crossed that it stays this way for as long as possible. ❤

We are getting our first “real” snowstorm today. I wish I could bundle it up and send it your way!

Ah, thanks for your generous offer…but no thanks!

Gus looks very comfy and I’m sure all the kitties will be heading to the hearth this week to keep cozy with this severe cold weather on the way. I like the heated bird bath – it must be fun to watch the birds as they splash around as cold as it is outside. I often see birds bathing in a puddle after a heavy rain or someone runs the sprinkler – pure joy!

They love to splash around in the winter. Keeps their feathers clean to better insulate.

Yes, they need to spread the oil on their feathers. I wish I had a window to look out onto a deck where I could watch them, but I do not have such a set-up and couldn’t implement it the way the house is set up plus my metal rolling shutters are in a permanent stuck down position. It is on my list to see if the blind company can fix that for me.

You have snow! I’m so envious! We were promised an “Arctic blast” but then only had a total of about 12 flakes, all too wet to settle properly.

Wish I could send it your way. We are getting a “big” one tomorrow. Maybe 6 to 10 inches.

Enjoying the photos this morning. Always fun to see the Sassy Cats! That’s a wintry scene out the window where Izzie and Whiskers are soaking up the not sun. I don’t know why but they kinda made me sad. But I am betting that is where they want to be. Is it super cold there? Add me to list of peeps that sleeps with a leg or foot (depending on the temp) sticking out. The heated bird bath is the ritz! Last photo is adorable. Good Morning, Kate!

Izzie and Whiskers are around 6 and have lived outside (but very well taken care of for the most part) their whole lives. My neighbor tried to adopt Whiskers out. He is a gorgeous long-haired gray cat with some white but the adopter gave him back. They are buddies and have a heated hutch with two squares a day. The foot out thing — as a child I just started doing it. No one told me or explained it and I didn’t see my parents do it. Not sure how that happens. Must be instinctive.

Lovely, all lovely. I have had enough snow for awhile, though we are going to get more this week. And the temps are to slip into the negatives. I guess we were due for a tough winter, but I’m already ready for spring.

So ready for spring. I saw the countdown and it is 61 days. We are going to get snow and a bitter cold snap too. Not my favorite.

Agreed. Too cold for me. I hate having to get out in it.

Cute photos. We feed the birds seed and suet, but no heated water.

I remembered that I haven’t put out the suet feeder (or bought suet) this winter. The critters are not eating the corn cobs that I have put out. Usually that’s very popular. The water is popular. Everything drinks there except the deer who can’t get up the stairs!

This place doesn’t have great cat tv. The windows are mostly high and don’t have furniture to sit on. We do have a great sliding glass door and used to have a cat tree there for the kids to wait for Godot the squirrel. Godot kept breaking my bird feeder till I got rid of it and we all missed it. Anyway…
Lovely as always to see Sasha and Gus. Such a sweet couple!

Sasha and Gus are always adorable. I could look at dozens of pictures of them and never get tired.

They are new shots but they look the same. I’ve never had snugglers before and I think it’s all Sasha. When Gus had the surgery and was isolated with the cone, she was working on getting Morgan to snuggle. Morgan is not a snuggler but would occasionally groom her probably because Sasha gets insistent when she wants her way.

I’ve never had snugglers either. It is adorable. So glad I got Sasha to you! Her perfect home.

Except that she refuses to meet anyone new and she steals everyone’s food, she’s perfect.

She would disagree. I think Morgan is the perfect cat except for the broken leg incident.

Gus (and his foot) are pretty funny. I wish my cat would be content with watching instead of always trying to escape.

None of this group try to get out even when the door is propped open for a time. They are all rescues so spent time outside when they were very young. Maybe bad memories? Or they know a good gig when they found it? Or they are just plain lazy? Too many predators here to let them out although there are 3 outdoor cats next door that do fine.

Impossible to say. My previous cats didn’t have much interest in hanging out in the backyard (once I moved to a place that had one). I think it might have been because they were older. Or it could be that Boss Cat was just built bolder!

When they get older they don’t seem to roam far. Jake stayed in the yard, preferably in the catnip bush.

Is that Gracie’s basket Gus is snoozing in?
I love that you have a heated bird bath. It’s their Miami. Your care is so noted.
I still hear the frogs from your old pond wooing one another waiting for spring. 🙂

The basket belonged to everyone. They all take turns. The bed that Gus and Sasha are snuggling in is Gracie’s bed. When she was alive, she was in it almost all the time so no one else got a chance.

Awe. Bet it still has her scent, the sweet girl that she was.

I’ve washed it since she’s gone so it may not smell like her anymore. Smells more like Gus butt.

I love your heated bird bath. I used to have a sturdy plastic basin that withstood freezing. I changed the water or dumped the ice, and the birds appreciated that. The pan finally fell apart. It’s a shame I didn’t replace it. I sit in a different place to write now, and I should figure out a way to keep water available for the birds.

I’m glad you take such good care of your birds. My area has many mountain streams, so water is available for birds. There are quiet pools in large boulders.

We have a stream not far from us but they love eating and having a nearby drink afterward. It’s a spa for them. Love when they take a bath. Water everywhere. Gus especially loves to sit on the back windowsill (which barely fits him) and watch them.

I love your bird bath Anne. It’s like a phone booth compared to a cell phone. I was always so happy in a phone booth. as those birds had to be. 🙂

They do that for some time each day. Not always. I think Sasha gets hot sometimes because she will lay on the cool floor for a while but Gus is irresistible. 🙂

I love that you have snugglers ! They keep each other company but also keep each other warm. I think it’s cute that you and Gus are both foot-danglers. Like mother like son! I really like your heated birdbath – nicest design I’ve seen.
Hugs, Pam

This is my first pair of snugglers (after 50 years of having cats!) My husband made the base to hold a heated basin. It’s more stable than the tripod things that come with heated baths.

Well your husband did a great job and it’s a really nice design. Those tripod things are “precarious” looking at best!

They tip over when something bigger than a bird comes by. We get squirrels coming for the occasional drink and maybe other critters too.
