Sassy cats – Oops!

I get a lot of cat supplies from Chewy. It’s the pet version of Amazon. The prices are good and best of all everything is delivered. To anyone who has carted 40 lbs. of cat litter home, this is wonderful. I can also buy canned food in cases instead of individually putting 24 or 48 cans in my cart. There are other companies that do this too, but I use Chewy.

The customer service is great. They work with you if your cat suddenly doesn’t eat a brand or flavor of food, and you just bought several cases.

They personalize the service. You can put your pet’s information and photo on your account and your pet will get a birthday card with a discount for a gift. Yes, I know my cats don’t care about cards but it’s a kind gesture.

They also send you a card when you lose your pet. I received one for Gracie.

About a month later, I received a USPS (postal service) notice that I was getting a package from Chewy. Made no sense to me as they use Fed Ex for their shipments here.

What I got was an 8” x 8” canvas painting of Gracie (or so I thought). It’s beautiful. I hadn’t received that for Mollie, Hazel, or Jake so it was a surprise.

The painting didn’t quite capture Gracie. She looked broader in the neck than she was. Gracie was a thin cat with a long snout (rather than a flat one), but the picture was beautiful.

This is what Gracie looked like.

The beloved husband looked at it and said, “That’s Morgan, not Gracie!” *bangs head on table* He was right. The most evident feature was the fact that the painting had a left eye and Gracie had a right eye. The picture captures the essence of Morgan completely. I should have picked up on that right away.

Another lesson is that when we are intent on something, we may not see it as it is. I love it anyway. Thank you Chewy for giving us all a giggle here. BTW Morgan is strutting her stuff as a model!

Editor’s Note: I did not receive any compensation for this post. There are other companies that do this kind of service. I’ve always been happy with Chewy so I stay with them.

  1. Chewy is one of very few stores that delivers great service with compassion and a goal to make the customer satisfied with their purchase. I have heard and read about the acts of kindness they do especially with regard to losing a pet. The wrong photo is amusing and smile worthy especially because the Beloved Husband noticed the goof. Gracie is still missed and I can’t help but think if she was still the spokescat for the Sassy Cats on Fridays she would have thought it was amusing too♥ I can hear her thoughts about “The Peeps”—mostly the lady peep 🙂

    • She would have thought it was a riot. They didn’t look at all alike. Different face and nose shapes and completely different sizes. Morgan is happy with her portrait. She thinks it belongs in the Smithsonian.

    • I’ve only had good experiences with them. My biggest complaint is that the boxes are heavy. Sometimes I open them on my front porch and carry the individual items in. Mostly it’s the litter.

  2. That’s a nice gesture by Chewy – I think I knew about that before. It’s nice they waited a little bit of time to send it as well, so that seeing the painting would not be as upsetting as right after their passing. Well even if they had the wrong cat for the painting, it was still a very nice touch.

    • I doubt it. They have a “my pets” section on my account and I have all my pets there with a picture. This is a cropped head shot from Morgan’s picture. I moved Gracie from the active to the memorial section which must trigger the action.

  3. Chewy sent you that painting for free? What a happy surprise! How did they know Gracie passed away? Well, now you have a painting of Morgan. AI can paint you one of Gracie. 😉

  4. I just loved all of this. I knew nothing about Chewy though all the pet owners in my building get substantial deliveries.

I roared over the birthdays cards. I think that’s great. I do being the card freak that I am.

I miss Gracie too. Her wisdom and sass hard act to follow.

  5. Chewy’s is a great company. When Teddy died I emailed them to cancel Teddy’s food. I got a sweet email in response and a couple of days later flowers. They will have my business as long as I have cats!

  6. We have received paintings of our lost fur babies from Chewy and even if the painting is a little off, it’s a very kind gesture and wonderful picture to hang on your wall.

  7. Our cats get a Christmas card from the vet but no discounts. Here most cat food comes as sachets not tins. Our cats don’t even recognise the sound of a tin opener.

    • We get a card from our vet too (which is as it should be considering we must have put a new wing on their house! 🙂 ). It’s mostly tin cans with flip top lids. My cats wouldn’t recognize a can opener but that flip top snap will bring them running!

  8. Sadly, I did not get anything from Chewy when I lost various pets, but I seem to be in the minority. Not that it matters–I’m just happy someone (that isn’t the evil Amazon Empire) carries the bison and sweet potato dog food that my allergy prone dogs seem to need!

    • Have you put your pet’s info in your account? This is a first for me other than a card. One thing I will say for Amazon — when Mollie was diagnosed with diabetes, they overnighted (no charge) all diabetic supplies. I was grateful as the glucometer was half of what my vet wanted for the same thing.

  9. Chewy is a class act………they sent me a painting of our boy Teddy a couple of years ago for no reason really other than we get a lot of stuff from them. I love that portrait they did for you even if it WAS the wrong cat! It’s beautifully done.
