‘Twas the day after Thanksgiving and all through the house, the stink of old turkey smelled like a dead mouse.
Time to light up that gingerbread candle! (Seriously, maybe two!)
Have you ever noticed how the kitchen smells the next day? It’s like that yesterday’s fireplace smell or maybe wet dog.
Yesterday was good. The weather cooperated. Starbucks was open. The beloved husband’s football team won. Morgan was her usual star, running, dancing and prancing for company. The other cats slept through most of the day.
My Starbucks sits on mall property. Today I drove through the black Friday crowd to get my mocha. It wasn’t too bad but I was on the early side — no, not 1 a.m. early but around 8 a.m. early. The parking lot was full but people were in the stores and not driving recklessly around the lot. (Have you ever noticed how people drive in parking lots? DO NOT to take their parking spot or you may be dead!)
Here are some pictures from our day.

Hazel and Morgan at play. You’ll notice that Hazel is laying down and Morgan is doing all the playing. This is prior to company coming. Morgan: Come’on, you can do it. Just get up, willya?

My brother is carving the turkey with his empty wine glass showing. He always carves better with wine.

As the day went on, Morgan reverted to her hunting.
Morgan: Get away! There is a nice birdie just outside this door. I can get him if I can slide the door open. Thumbs! I need thumbs!
Hope you all had a great day!
It looked quite festive and your arrangement is beautiful, Kate! The husband with the meat slicing in the photo is smiling so nicely! It sounds like it was a wonderful time!

M and I spent a lovely day with our two youngest sons and their families and friends…17 of us for the afternoon and evening. We took a 20 lb.ham (delish); the others brought all kinds of things…oyster corn, turkey w/all the trimmings and then? Desserts from sugar-free cheesecake done up w/strawberries, pumpkin pies, pecan pies and pecan pie cookies. One of our grandsons loves to cook and gave us some homemade apple-butter. He also tested his latest ‘drink’ concoction which tasted delish but beware of its’ kick…woo!
Our beautiful Gibby (cat) is fully recovered and acting ready for more holidays…and we don’t do Black Friday’s ever…oh brother!
Your décor looks so beautiful; and your brother is on the ball…wine with almost anything is the way to go. Hugs to you!

The beauty of large gatherings is the variety (and of course the people). My brother baked an apple pie which was wonderful. So glad to hear about Gibby. Yay! Hugs right back at you!

We want to a friend’s house so they did most of the work. I do miss having leftovers and, most of all, a carcass to make soup from. Maybe we’ll make our own turkey dinner for two in a few weeks so I can make soup afterwards. I use my mother’s recipe so it brings back such wonderful memories.

You are lucky. I am not a big fan of turkey. I don’t do the turkey soup. We had sandwiches today and have enough for another set of sandwiches and that’s enough for another year.

Your table looks beautiful, Kate! It looks like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and you got your Starbucks fix this morning with no problem…life is good!

Life is good. Today is cold but sunny and dry. It would be better if it was 80 but I’m not complaining!

Lovely table setting. 🙂 And I also panned around your kitchen. 🙂 Couldn’t tell if you cooked dressing inside the turkey or out.

Always outside. With only five of us this year, I made a turkey breast rather than the whole bird. When I took the picture of my brother carving, the stuffing along with the sweet potatoes were inside the oven.

The breaker flipped on the microwave and oven, at the last minute I found out I was having three extra people….but it all turned out all right and we had a great day!

I have a temperature probe that requires you to turn on the alarm (how dumb is that? why else would you use it?). I forgot to turn the alarm on and by the time I checked, it was about 8 degrees over the desired temperature. Everyone said it was wonderful. For me it was slight bit dry especially today.

Indeed it was a great day. The snow was cleared, eagles won big and the food was terrific. However, I did miss the mince meat pie!!
