It’s me again, Sasha the magnificent. I’m home. It’s so good to be alive! It was awful. Peeps have no sense of boundaries. They even put a tube up my butt! Seriously? All this because I barf on carpets.
The Vet has no idea why I barf so much. Likely IBD (irritable bowel disease) but they can’t be sure unless there is a biopsy. I whapped the peep good because that was not happening! She agreed. Neither an x-ray nor an ultrasound would confirm so I dodged those bullets. They are going to fiddle with my food. We’ll see how this goes. I’m not eating crappy food!
I came home and told Gus all about it. He comforted me and promised that he’ll share his food if mine wasn’t good. He better!
Peep’s note: Just as I thought, there is no crisis or treatment except to invest in paper towel stock as we will continue to go through them cleaning up barf. She has an irritation in her one ear that is making her uncomfortable and we are taking care of that. The vet suggested a hydrolized food diet. Yikes $$$ (and Gus may want to eat it too!). It’s not guaranteed to work. I have to do more research and see what I can find.
We all wish you a weekend that doesn’t require fiddling with your food.

Aww, that photo is so adorable. Sophie is on a hydrolyzed diet here, and yes, pricey!!

Did it help and what is her issue?

Sophie has food allergies, and yes, it works for her. When Dexter was diagnosed with IBD, we also switched him to hydrolyzed. He didn’t vomit, so that wasn’t his issue. It was the other end that was the issue. And he was never super normal again.

Sounds like Hazel. She had pooping issues to the end.

Sasha, I hope your ear is better soon. Cute photo.

My ear is better but I get these awful drops twice a day for a week. A WEEKI! That’s like forever!

I just saw a meme that said: I don’t want to be private jet rich, I just want to be when my vet suggests something, I can say, “sure, go ahead” rich.

I’d love for the special food costs but I still wouldn’t get the biopsy, at least not yet.

Hell no! Sasha just likes the finer things in life, including food. I can’t blame her.

Food fiddling is no fun at all. Our Link Linker the Stinker eats dry kibble, but isn’t too picky so we get him a good quality and he’s happy with it, thankfully.

Lucky you! Gus can’t have kibble so we don’t give it to either cat unless I’m sneaking some to Sasha behind closed doors!

Thankful Queen Sasha is home. 😊 Sorry no direct answers. Hopefully finding the right food will be a solution and won’t make you have to take out a second mortgage. 😉

I’ve been through this with other cats and was hoping that there had been some breakthroughs in diagnostics but no. We’ll try different food and hope for the best.

Well you have to admit among all the things they could have found/said, this is at least “workable” for Sasha. I don’t think I’ve ever been told “I don’t know” by a doctor before but leave it to Sasha to be mysterious!! Stocking up on paper towels is definitely in your future but we are “Cat Moms” and we do whatever it takes. Sending you hugs though…..I bet you need them!
Pam and Teddy too

Yes, hugs and Bounty paper towels are the needs of the day. We are at 36 hours without a barf so we are celebrating.

I’m glad you are home safe and sound. And Gus looks like he is going to take good care of you. Such a sweet couple!!!!

Gus has been surrounding her with love. Those two put married couples to shame. I’ve never had two cats bond like that. It’s nice to watch but I wonder what happens when one dies. They are about a year apart and hopefully that day will be a long way off.

Giovanni was vomiting quite a bit over the summer. Our vet suggested a food trial. She wanted to put him on the hydrolyzed food. I did some research and found out how to test different proteins one at a time.
I decided to try him on an LID food before I tried the expensive hydrolyzed stuff. I chose KOHA LID chicken. I was very fortunate because he was able to tolerate that just fine! So that’s what I’ve stayed with. Thankfully he doesn’t mind eating the same canned food everyday (unlike his brother….). I never did figure out what he’s allergic to, but my guess is that he was allergic to an additive in the Fancy Feast he was eating before because he’d vomit after eating several different proteins.
There’s a Facebook group for kitties with allergies that is helpful.
I hope you can find something Sasha can eat that doesn’t make her sick. Poor baby. <3

After searching the hydrolyzed foods, I’m going to try LID first. She prefers wet so that’s a bit more of a challenge. The vet suggested a new protein like duck. Thanks for the tip on KOHA. I see the Chewy carries it and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Sasha barfed after eating both the chicken and beef Fancy Feast so you may be right about an additive rather than the protein itself. Thanks for your comment. It was very helpful.

Well, it sounds a wee bit invasive Sasha, but hopefully this diet change will work out for you and you don’t have to go back to the vet. Don’t let Gus give you food – stick to YOUR diet only. And, in that regard, I was going to hop on Amazon and send you some chocolate-covered mousies, but they might not work for this new diet. Sorry!

Catnip flavored mousies would work! :)

Okay – no dietary restrictions for catnip mousies!

You poor kitty. Sorry you had to go to the vet and be tortured. What kind of paper towels does your mom use? Just in case I do want to invest. :)

We’ll bumble around for a bit. Each food has to be tested for at least 3 weeks to see if it makes a difference. She occasionally goes a month without barfing so…..

I’m so glad to hear she is home safely. My dog is on hydrolyzed food for IBD and while expensive has helped tremendously. I hope you find something that both helps and that she will eat regularly.
have a nice weekend.

That’s what they think she has although they wouldn’t know for sure without a biopsy. The thing with cats is that they are much pickier eaters than dogs so fingers crossed.

they are way pickier. Good luck to you both.

Oh Sasha…so sorry you were poked and prodded and still got no answers. We’re hoping the barfing goes away with an adjustment of the food. Paws crossed for you. In the meantime, enjoy the attention of your sweet Gus.

Yes, I’ve gotten some extra meals because the peep feels badly for me (he he!). I like to make the most of these situations. Gus got extra food too. He likes me for that! ;)

I am so happy you posted! She has this wonderful Lady Peep. I hate you are having to worry about her but I think you have a plan. Nothing done that doesn’t confirm anything and lots of paper towels! And she is going to do some research and Sasha is going to get lots of prayers and hope for something to help. Hugs, Kate!

Yes. The bad news there is no definitive diagnosis! :( Hoping that a food change will help.

We just keep on trying new things until they come up with a way of diagnosing this better. The vet said a lot of cats have this.

Good luck to Sasha and the peep. So frustrating that it’s basically, ‘I don’t know,’ from the docs. Couldn’t bloodwork tell them something? Sigh. Maybe it’s time to invest in a paper towel brand. Have a great weekend.

Bloodwork is almost perfect. Glucose is a few digits over normal but nothing alarming. Bounty it is! :)
