Sassy cats – A Morgan update

Morgan and me

It’s the peep today and the news isn’t so good. Morgan had to go back to the vet. She’s wheezier this time around. They took x-rays and her issue is more serious than they thought. The trachea appears swollen but there is no real diagnosis. It could be a lot of things, some quite serious and some maybe not. She’s a squirmy cat so the pictures weren’t clear, but we are trying one more treatment before she gets referred to a specialist for scans. She is 13 which is young. Most of my cats live from 16 to 18 years.

They want us to make sure her breathing doesn’t get labored because that would be an emergency. I’m hoping a day or two on the new meds with bring her around at least a little. This sucked the life out of the holidays for us.

If you are so inclined, say a prayer, send some positive energy and think good thoughts about a sweet gray kitty with one eye who is fighting.

Oh how young you are! This is one of Morgan’s best photos from her younger years. She still does wheels up!

Another of her young pictures! Oh so small!

    • She’s sort of stable but I made a specialist appointment. They are hard to get and hers is in February. I can always cancel if the situation fully resolves (which I doubt).

  2. Poor Morgan. Of course your many blogging buddies will rally for this sweet kitty to get better, of that you can be sure. Prayers that the meds do the trick quickly and Morgan is feeling better before the holidays begin.

  3. It’s so hard when they get sick. They can’t tell you how they feel and you can’t explain all the scary stuff that’s being done to them. I feel the lack of language communication so much when they are sick. In good times our communication seems perfect. We get each other. But sick – it’s hard.

    • Of course she did. One cat passed New Year’s Eve day and she had been sick since Christmas week. another started downhill Christmas week. Hard to get care. I’m hoping the meds at least get us past the holidays. I’m actually hoping the meds fix it but that may be a long shot.

  7. Praying for Morgan and sending positive vibes! I hope your vet has emergency services over the holidays. Most of them here do not, and I hear lots of complaints from pet owners about the lack of weekend coverage.

  8. Prayers going up for your sweet Morgan – she looks so much like our Lilly who crossed the rainbow bridge 3 years ago.

    • The vet said the meds may help either permanently or temporarily. I’m hoping to at least hump through the holiday without an ER visit. The meds will go for close around 2 weeks. If the symptoms return she will go to a specialist but at least that is past the holiday.

  9. Oh Kate I’m sending BIG POSITIVE thoughts and prayers for Morgan – sounds like this morning she’s a bit less wheezy so let’s hope the meds are working their Christmas magic. I sure hope you get what would be the BEST Christmas present of all – a perky and “over the scare” sweet Morgan. Trust me – all of your friends including me are hoping for that……

    Hugs and Hope, Pam

    • Hoping that this is a “treatable” thing and not long term (which the vet alluded to). She’s eating ok and comes out to be with the gang. All good. She’s not hiding which is the kiss of death. I’d like to hump through the holidays before having to deal with more. ER vets are packed (pets seem to prefer holidays to get ill) and staff is thin (imagine a vet wanting a life!). She is my perfect cat.

  10. I’m so sorry about Morgan. Not being able to breathe well is such scary stuff. Paws crossed you can get through the holidays without having to spend a chunk of it at the emergency vet.
