Sassy cats — Gus the chonk!

Gus weighs in as our biggest cat at 15 pounds. He was 12 pounds when adopted in 2020 but that happens in this household. My vet said the cats are happy. She is not concerned about his weight as he can get around just fine and can clean himself (the real test).

He has a good sized (but very handsome) body. When he sleeps on the sofa top (one of his favorite spots) his booty doesn’t quite fit. It’s okay though. It slings down. Once in a while he’ll slide down the cushion but somehow he has found a way to balance himself. It doesn’t look comfortable to me but I wouldn’t sleep on the top of a cushion ever.

It’s a delicate balance

But the birdies must be watched!

Go away peep, you’re bothering me!

We all wish you a great weekend!

  1. Gus is a handsome ginger. I thought my cat was big at 11 pounds, but Gus has him beaten. We are supposed to control his food to keep him from getting overweight, but it is hard not to feed when they are hungry. Do you trim your cat’s nails? Jackson Galaxy says to trim. I will have to get the vet to show me when I take him in.

    • Gus should probably lose 2 pounds but the vet isn’t worried as his weight is stable and he’s not gaining more. Yes, I clip his nails. He is very good about it.

      • Really, that’s interesting licking the salt off the chips. My aunt’s dog loved ice cream and my grandmother and aunt would buy the pails of ice cream as every night they sat on the porch with some neighbors and had ice cream, so the dog got a bowl too. My grandmother would be doling out the bowls and he would whine until he got his bowl of ice cream. πŸ™‚ That was before “pup cups” of ice cream were all the rage.

          • I’d never heard of giving dogs ice cream before my aunt did it. They say not to give your dog chocolate and if my aunt and grandmother split a Jersey Milk chocolate bar (similar to a Hershey’s chocolate bar in the U.S.), the dog got a piece too. He was healthy until she took him for a walk one day and he contracted the Parvo virus from another dog that evidently walked on the sidewalk before he did per the vet. He got very ill and had to be euthanized. I guess he had never had parvo virus shots – my aunt’s vet had never recommended it.

  2. beautiful cat! My lookalike, marshmallow, is only 12 lbs, all of which is lovable. I’m glad he’s keeping an eye out to protect you!
