Sassy cats — Hibernation

We had a snowstorm and bitter cold weather (for us) this week. Not much was going on except lots of sleeping and bird watching.

Yes the lovers were at it again. They slept like this for a while. Doesn’t look comfortable to me

Sasha on the heating pad.

Although this picture is blurry, the neighbor’s outdoor cats were trying to catch rays and a snooze on their deck box.

This was on cat TV.

And here is an old one from Calvin and Hobbes.

One of my favorite Calvin and Hobbes winter cartoons!

Have a glorious and warm weekend!

  1. Even the birds look cold, Kate! And the poor outdoor kitties–are they okay? It feels too cold for outdoor cats, but I tend to treat my animals like people. Ha!

    • I saw the outdoor kitties sunning themselves yesterday and they were happy to see the sunshine. They have heated huts and two meals a day. I feel sorry for outdoor cats who don’t have that.

      • Heated homes! That’s something we don’t see here in the west, so it didn’t even occur to me. But I can see they’re well cared for. And you’re right, all the animals that are “on their own” tug at my heart!

  2. LOL! Love the pics of your cozy cats snoozing away, along with what’s on cat TV right now 🙂 It has been pretty cold here too – we got hit with the polar vortex. But it will be warming up over the next couple of days, so that’s a break!

  3. Love the lovers doing the snooze-a-rama on a winter’s day. Stay warm. It snowed again with very cold temps. Again. I think I shoveled 5 or 6 times yesterday. I’m hoping that system is moving out with warmer temps in the forecast. 🤞🏼

  4. It is a good life for the Sassy Cats! Sasha and Gus… they are truly bonded. Sweet photos. Mourning Doves—I am especially amused and charmed by them. I relate to their state of what seems to be constant befuddlement. That is a great cartoon! We are finally at the end of our hibernation today. Started at 36° this morning and starting today the temp goes up and up. Hope you are staying warm. Do you still make your Starbuck’s run in single-digit temps? Heated seats on… check!

  5. We didn’t turn the corner as anticipated and it snowed again today and a little more expected tomorrow, so the balmy 32 degrees isn’t until Monday now. I keep lamenting that it’s only January. Cat TV was very good – too bad Morgan was the only one watching it. 🙂

    • Me too. My next door neighbor has 2 indoor cats and the outdoor ones are semi-feral and won’t come in. She has heated huts for them along with 2 meals a day. They are around 6 which is a good age for outdoor cats but I’m with you. Too much worry with outdoor cats. I much prefer them indoors driving me crazy.

  6. I love Calvin and Hobbes snowmen comics, cuddly kitties and mourning doves. I do not so much love the cold weather. We are having a slight warming trend but try as I might, I can’t convince myself that winter is over. Stay warm out there!

  7. Those little mourning doves look very puffed out, keeping those feathers poofed so they stay warm. Brrrr. Amazing that now 28 degrees feels downright tropical after some very cold days. The Arctic should stay in the Arctic…now sure who invited it down here.

    • I didn’t invite it for sure. I’m done with snow. We got some water in our basement from a heat pump component because of the super cold weather. We had to clean up the floor but it’s all good now. You get these little surprises in cold weather. Our front stoop is still icy and the melting stuff isn’t working. We blocked it with a wooden horse. Maybe today!

  8. Yikes on the snow sharks…..I’ll have to keep an eye out for those! We have “old snow” at this point since we haven’t had snow in several days – but it’s so cold the old stuff isn’t going anywhere. Chance of a couple of days in the 40s next week – we’re hopeful. Love the photos – those lovers really are beyond adorable….really. Keep warm!

    Hugs, Pam

    • Our snow is getting old too but it isn’t melting. We are hopeful to get above freezing maybe over the weekend or early next week. Nothing much going on with the cats (and I’m not complaining about that!) Morgan and Gus got into some stare downs. Gus wolfs his food down and Morgan dines delicately savoring every morsel. Then Gus is annoyed because Morgan has food left and he doesn’t. Argh!

  9. I think it hit 80 degrees here yesterday, though the temperature plummets at night because the humidity is about 15%. But that’ supposed to change and there might even be rain for us this weekend! Wish us a wet one (but not too wet because then we have debris in the ocean and shifting hillsides).
