Sassy cats — Pot Pourri

It’s winter here. Bleah! (My apologies to those who may actually like winter.) We feed the birds and have a heated bird bath for water which was popular this week. It’s a bird version of Disney on my deck.It makes for great cat TV too. This next shot is very blurred but it’s what my cats see when they look out the office window. It’s Izzie and Whiskers from next door basking in the nonexistent sunshine.

Also great cat TV.

They say that pets and owners resemble each other (I check my face for fur everyday!). Here is a shot of Gus sleeping. He sleeps just like I do with one foot out to regulate temperature.

Just like the peep!

The obligatory couple shot.

This shot is the easiest to take. They do this multiple times a day.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I just love seeing the love birds snoozing together. Bless you for providing for the neighborhood birds with food and water. No doubt they appreciate it. The squirrels would bankrupt me before any birds got satiated. Stay warm, we’re freezing in D-town. Only single digits by noon today. 🥶

  2. Hi, Kate – What’s that white stuff in the first photo? I don’t want to jinx myself but we haven’t yet had one flake of snow in our corner of Vancouver Island this winter. I have my fingers and toes crossed that it stays this way for as long as possible. ❤

  3. Gus looks very comfy and I’m sure all the kitties will be heading to the hearth this week to keep cozy with this severe cold weather on the way. I like the heated bird bath – it must be fun to watch the birds as they splash around as cold as it is outside. I often see birds bathing in a puddle after a heavy rain or someone runs the sprinkler – pure joy!

      • Yes, they need to spread the oil on their feathers. I wish I had a window to look out onto a deck where I could watch them, but I do not have such a set-up and couldn’t implement it the way the house is set up plus my metal rolling shutters are in a permanent stuck down position. It is on my list to see if the blind company can fix that for me.

  4. Enjoying the photos this morning. Always fun to see the Sassy Cats! That’s a wintry scene out the window where Izzie and Whiskers are soaking up the not sun. I don’t know why but they kinda made me sad. But I am betting that is where they want to be. Is it super cold there? Add me to list of peeps that sleeps with a leg or foot (depending on the temp) sticking out. The heated bird bath is the ritz! Last photo is adorable. Good Morning, Kate!

    • Izzie and Whiskers are around 6 and have lived outside (but very well taken care of for the most part) their whole lives. My neighbor tried to adopt Whiskers out. He is a gorgeous long-haired gray cat with some white but the adopter gave him back. They are buddies and have a heated hutch with two squares a day. The foot out thing — as a child I just started doing it. No one told me or explained it and I didn’t see my parents do it. Not sure how that happens. Must be instinctive.

  5. Lovely, all lovely. I have had enough snow for awhile, though we are going to get more this week. And the temps are to slip into the negatives. I guess we were due for a tough winter, but I’m already ready for spring.

    • I remembered that I haven’t put out the suet feeder (or bought suet) this winter. The critters are not eating the corn cobs that I have put out. Usually that’s very popular. The water is popular. Everything drinks there except the deer who can’t get up the stairs!

  6. This place doesn’t have great cat tv. The windows are mostly high and don’t have furniture to sit on. We do have a great sliding glass door and used to have a cat tree there for the kids to wait for Godot the squirrel. Godot kept breaking my bird feeder till I got rid of it and we all missed it. Anyway…

Lovely as always to see Sasha and Gus. Such a sweet couple!

  7. Is that Gracie’s basket Gus is snoozing in?

I love that you have a heated bird bath. It’s their Miami. Your care is so noted.

I still hear the frogs from your old pond wooing one another waiting for spring. 🙂

  8. I love your heated bird bath. I used to have a sturdy plastic basin that withstood freezing. I changed the water or dumped the ice, and the birds appreciated that. The pan finally fell apart. It’s a shame I didn’t replace it. I sit in a different place to write now, and I should figure out a way to keep water available for the birds.

  9. I love that you have snugglers ! They keep each other company but also keep each other warm. I think it’s cute that you and Gus are both foot-danglers. Like mother like son! I really like your heated birdbath – nicest design I’ve seen.

    Hugs, Pam
