Gracie here. The peep wants me to talk about food and all the commotion that goes on. I will but first next Wednesday is Gus’s surgery. We are all hoping for the best. Don’t tell him but I like the guy. He’s not pesty like Sasha although he will eat my food if I walk away. No one’s perfect.
The food — the vet said that Gus has to stay on a urinary track diet. She gave a prescription for the food. The peep had a heart attack when she saw the cost. She is using an over the counter version that only costs three times regular cat food (instead of five). So far she hasn’t had to take out a mortgage to feed us. Yet.
The real problem is that we steal each other’s food except for me. No one else likes rotisserie chicken which is a topper on my food. (And you thought I was being finicky!) If she feeds Gus the special diet and the other two regular food, they like to switch when she isn’t looking. Gus and Sasha eat side by side and Morgan has another spot. Sasha, being the diva she is, likes to taste everyone’s plate and then eat what she likes best.
At first the peep would “stand guard” during meals but that got tedious (for the peep, not me). Now for breakfast, everyone gets the special diet food so the peep can get dressed. That worked for a while. It was new food with a few flavors and everyone liked it (except Gus who wants his Fancy Feast). Then today happened. No one wanted the special diet food for breakfast (this of course happened after she did a big order yesterday). For dinner everyone except Gus gets the old food and she stands guard with her outdoor voice.
She was able to sneak Morgan some Fancy Feast but Sasha came running and scooped it up so the peep put another tablespoon down. (Yeah, it was like Keystone Kops). Morgan enjoyed that but Gus came around to see what was going on. Fortunately Morgan got it all.
At this point there is a lot of expensive special diet food sitting in plates waiting to be eaten and some stubborn cats who want their Fancy Feast.
In her next life, the peep is going to have goldfish for pets although she will figure out a way to turn them into divas. Have a great weekend and feel free to join us for breakfast sometime!

The peep would have absolutely no fun with goldfish.
The picture of Sasha and Gus in the basket is priceless.
Sending warm healing vibes to Gus.

Maybe us cats would have fun with them!

No doubt. But the feeling would likely not be mutual. Think Cat in the Hat! ❤

Oh my goodness, that is some mealtime shenanigans for sure! Thanks for keeping us updated, Gracie! Gus and Sasha are so adorable in their basket 🙂

They are a cute couple. They have their tiffs with the occasional head womp but mostly they get along just fine. Like an old married couple.

I would like to curl up in that blanket. But I’d also like the “fancy food,” like pizza!
Sounds like furry beings keep the mistress of the house very very busy.

You’re lucky you are the only cat chowing down on rotisserie chicken Gracie. I like the photo of Gus and Sasha tucked into the heated basket with that sun filtering onto them. They look to be the picture of contentment.

Technically that is MY basket. The peep set it up for me and I use it sometimes.

Gracie, if I had a heated basket, I would hang onto it. In fact, I’d bargain some treats for an hour to sit in that basket. Think on that. But wait ’til Gus is home and recovered, then broker a deal. (P.S. – Keep this idea just between you and me okay?)

Peep is your servant, isn’t she? I understand about the Fancy Feast. When I served my cat masters they were all about it, too.

We cats like what we like! Bring on the rotisserie chicken!

I don’t envy you having to deliver 3 x à la carte meals!

You guys must be driving your peep crazy!! Sasha and Gus are sooo cute. Too bad they have to spend Valentine’s Day apart. Well, I hope Gus’s surgery goes well.

We hope Sasha doesn’t get all cranky when she doesn’t get a Valentine’s gift from her main squeeze.

You deserve a prize for keeping track of all the different food and who gets what! I can understand thinking about goldfish. LOL! Though they wouldn’t be near as photogenic. 🙂 Wishing the best for Gus and thinking of you too. Hoping March is a much calmer month!

I’ll be thinking of Gus on Wednesday. Hope the food situation works out for you. Having cats on different food has to be the most stressful thing. When my one cat was on urinary diet I ended up giving it to the other two.

I do that for breakfast but it’s very expensive to feed them all the time. Also, they like it once in a while but not a steady diet. This morning everyone was sick of it!

Yes, it’s awful how expensive it is. I don’t know why they have to charge so much. Also they don’t come in the variety of flavors our cats are used to.

I’ve been lucky. The over the counter Purina Pro Plan has 3 flavors and my cats like 2 of them. The vet wanted me to put Gracie on a special diet and that was a definite no go. Not only was the prescription diet outrageously $$ but NO ONE like it. Not even Gus who I can depend on eating most anything at least once.

Kate, it is amazing how cats got so picky about their food. Most dogs will eat anything. I don’t have much luck with goldfish. Fingers crossed for Gus…and you!

Cats are not like dogs. Even Gus, who will eat most things, can get fussy sometimes.

If this keeps up I think we may want to start a GoFundMe just for the special foods! Divas, yes, but awfully sweet ones. Much love especially to dear Gus!

It’s crazy. It may be why people are not keeping pets.

Aww, hugs to Gus and hugs to you, Kate. I’d be a wreck by now. I think you might have something there with the goldfish although I didn’t have a good track record with them. But they sure weren’t picky about their stinky fish food.

I enjoyed the fish I had in my pond. They were each very different which surprised me. This will be a stressful week. Not sure if it’s the surgery itself or the thought of having him coned for 2 weeks.

Goldfish sound like a good option. Lift up the top, dump some food in the tank, walk away. Good luck to Gus on Wednesday… he has a lot of fans out here in blogland.

Thanks. Goldfish are sounding better every day. I never had fish “pets” as a child but I enjoyed them in my pond and found they did have a personality.

The peep had Gus and Sasha on a diet — no kibble or extra feedings — before this whole UT food thing started. Now it’s just crazy. Sometimes she wishes they had opposable thumbs and could just help themselves.

Ah, food issues. For the first time EVER Maya refused her wormer and flea tablets. Only once a month, and she took them with gusto and no bribery. Not so today. We have already had the issue with not liking the capsules the oil comes in, so that is discarded and the oil mixed with cheese. This morning, we had the oil and her crushed tablets mixed not only with cheese, but also yogurt! She’s giving you gals a run for the money on the Diva stakes! Keep safe everyone.

We’ll be thinking of Gus on surgery day and hoping that all goes well. Having only one cat (even if he’s the size of three cats) means no food fights or food jealousy going on. But sometimes Teddy turns his nose up at his food (eats the same thing every day) but if I add some water to it and make it soupy, he’ll slurp it right up. Cats are – as we’re told they are – finicky that’s for sure. Teddy and I will be thinking about Gus next Wednesday for sure.
Hugs, Pam

Thanks. The peep is going into her full blown anxiety for Gus. It isn’t like a dental. It will take a few weeks to recover. Poor Gus.
