Sassy cats — Gus shed some weight!

Gracie here. It’s been a quiet sort of week. I pumped it up by not eating for a day to get the peep’s blood rolling but ate up a storm the next day. She likes when I mix it up!

They are starving me! Send food!

Gus still gets his ears cleaned weekly and he howls the whole time. There’s been improvement but it doesn’t completely clear. The peep thinks he will always have yeasty ears.

Has the riffraff left?

Here is Sasha peeping through the cat door to see if all the visitors have left. There were people here for a few hours to work on our (still non functioning) heat pump.

Nothing is new with Morgan. She is not liking the “Gus diet” we are all on. (It involves no free feeding kibble. Just two meals a day and a snack.) No free standing food so she has to find the peep and whine when she wants a nosh. We suggested a vending machine but Gus would figure it out.

The peep was putting food on top of a cabinet until she saw Gus jump up there. The only cat that can’t manage the jump is Sasha. That’s only a matter of time so it was discontinued. Gus has lost 12 ounces in the last week. Woohoo! That’s almost a pound!

That’s it for today. Have a great weekend!

  1. That’s good news about Gus Gracie – he didn’t even have to hit the gym to get it done. Sasha is soon to follow with losing some ounces. I hope the Peep Pop is feeling better, Peep Mom’s eye is better and the furnace is fixed since the Peeps don’t have fur to keep them warm?!

  2. Way to go Gus! The yeasty ears thing is a toughie – ear cleaning is not fun but a necessary evil (at least that’s what I used to tell Ted when he had the yeasty ear beastie!!). Good luck!

    • This is his third yeasty beastie since arriving in 2020 so it’s chronic. He needs a dental so when he is under I want them to look inside. For the one ear he is ok but he screams when I clean the other. Wondering if there is a polyp or something in there. Poor kitty.

      • Teddy has polyps but after a couple of years of keeping an eye on them and very little “growth” our vet says he’s not worried about the polyps….apparently it can be a rather tough surgery. Hope Gus is in the same boat as Ted!

    • It may be the because he had so much to lose. Hazel started out like that too. She eventually lost 4 pounds. It went off faster at the start then came off in smaller increments until she leveled off. She never got to her ideal weight of 12 pounds but I (and the vet) were pleased with her 14 pounds.

  3. Gracie, Zoe is doing the not eating thing today. I wish you wouldn’t encourage her! Good for Gus but 12 ounces seems like a lot for a cat to lose in a week. Maybe it was all that work to jump up to the hidden food.

    • It may also have been after a dump! šŸ™‚ He is about 5 pounds overweight which is a lot for a cat that should weigh 12. Maybe like people, bigger loss at the beginning then it tapers off. Anyhow he is bellyaching about the poor service here.

    • Lunch today was hilarious. (Yes, lunch remember just two meals? well today was 3) Gus can hear anything related to food from 100 miles away. I gave him a teaspoonful but the grays had a good nosh.
