Sassy cats – The food!

Liver? Bleh! Stick to the rotisserie chicken!

Gracie here. I’m late today. The dang peep was fussing with her hearing aids so my post time suffered. I need opposable thumbs or a more responsive staff.

I’ve been a little grumpy. The peep is trying to wean me off rotisserie chicken. Not gonna happen. Yesterday she went to our local pet store and bought cat food that resembles chopped and shredded rotisserie chicken. First one (a Rachel Ray variety) didn’t go well. I turned my nose up (even though I love Rachel’s dry cat food!). Both Gus and Morgan love it, but I want my rotisserie chicken unadorned with alien chunks.

The RR one had chicken breasts and liver and maybe it was the liver I didn’t like. We have four more brands to try. The peep even looked at fresh food. Most of that is for dogs and the only one for cats had fish in it too. I don’t do fish. I’m a poultry cat. Fish belong in the ocean, not in my belly.

To express my annoyance, I tossed stuff off her desk. Papers, files, pens – it was great fun. I don’t usually do that, but I don’t like people messing with my meals. My revenge ‘go to’ is to barf someplace difficult to clean. Plotting that now.

She is going to try Weruva tonight. We’ll see how this goes. I’m suggesting a run to Costco for more rotisserie chicken.

Gracie: Where’s my chicken!

  1. Gracie – that’s great the Peep is trying five kinds of food for you. You must be very special, or, as you say, the Peep is trying to forego the rotisserie chicken. You are beyond witty my dear. I especially liked your line: “Fish belong in the ocean, not in my belly.”

    • We go through this every couple months. She’s a slow learner. So far I have vetoed 2 and there are 2 more to go. The problem is that once she puts the new food, even just a tiny bit, on the plate I won’t eat the rotisserie chicken on the same plate. I’m a bad cat.

  2. Hey Gracie, I don’t think I’ve told you but Zoe is eating Vital Essentials, a freeze dried, “raw” chicken. The idea is that it’s shelf stable and less processed and not cooked until all the nutrients are mostly gone. I don’t know how realistic that is but she eats it. She has to have her fancy feast, too, and I think we’re currently at 3-4 flavors that she will sometimes eat. Zoe likes the meal patties of Vital Essentials although she will sometimes eat some of the crunchies they’re mostly too big for her taste. The biggest issues in my mind is 1) how can anything shelf stable be considered “raw,” and 2) because it’s raw there is a risk of salmonella which apparently doesn’t hurt cats but we peeps need to wash our hands carefully after breaking apart the meal patty. There are many options but, of course, Zoe eats chicken pretty much exclusively.

    • p.s. Zoe will only eat rotisserie chicken for a couple meals before she gets bored with it. It is something I only buy when I’m really desperate to get her to eat.

    • Gracie is a chicken cat too although she will eat turkey. She eats Fancy Feast chicken in addition to the rot chicken but not by itself. She also eats a dry kibble sometimes. I have to look for Vital Essentials. I was looking for food in the freezer/refrigerator section but almost all is for dogs and the one selection for cats was fish. No fish!

      • Zoe will occasionally eat fish. But just as soon as she wants fish (why don’t you ever feed me fish, I lurve fish!) she will turn around and refuse it. Usually she waits until I buy a small stack.

You can buy this stuff on Amazon or Chewy. The benefit of Chewy is they will refund you if she refuses it. OF course, one of your other cats will probably love it.

  3. Oh my! This sounds like one of Louis Catorze’s Grands Changements! Is it a complete guessing game as to what Madame will accept?

    • It is. Today I tried something I was hoping would work. Nope. Nose up in air. However Morgan, my perfect cat, ate it gleefully. The other cats are enjoying this ongoing smorgasbord. In the meantime I’m chopping up chicken so she doesn’t fade away on my watch! She does eat dry food so it’s not dire. Just annoying.

  4. Continue your protest Gracie….you deserve your rotisserie chicken whether it’s EASY or not for your Mom to obtain it for you! Cats are notorious for being finicky so has she forgotten that????? Has she????? Well you just might have to employ your coup de gras move (the barf). Good luck.

    Hugs, Teddy

    • The peep says you are not to encourage me. I wish I had some of your lust for food! The peep says that in her next life she wants to have “normal” cats! LOL!

  5. Aw, Gracie. I feel your pain. But sometimes, just sometimes, people do things that are for our own good. Even if we don’t like it. Maybe you will like one of the new foods, if not, prepare to barf!!

  6. You’re a cat with good taste . . . who wants to eat something that tastes good!

Let me know if you want to try any meatless meals. Garfield LOVED lasagna with all that delectable CHEESE. Perhaps Mac & Cheese would entice?

    • The peep went to Costco and came home with 2 chickens! Score! She’s still trying to get me to eat real cat food though. Something about a well rounded meal. I am well rounded especially my belly!

    • Mollie loved that. I like Tiki cat products. I tried one variety and Gracie refused to eat it. I also have Applaws to try too. That’s a limited ingredient food. My other cats are loving this. It’s a smorgasbord!
