It’s peopley out there – It was a “peopley” week for me. We had family visiting from the Midwest and a blogger drove through the area with her husband and dog on her way to New England. It was a great opportunity for lunch with my blogger friend. It’s always great to see her. She is a caring animal person and very involved in rescues. She spent the year fostering small kittens, some with their mom and some who lost their mom and had to be bottle fed. She saved almost all of them and they were adopted out to good homes. So…mostly happy endings. You can check out her blog here.
Gracie meet Gracie – Her dog Gracie met my cat Gracie. My G was totally unimpressed with what she considered a strange looking cat. The pup was very good and did not chase or challenge the cats. Sasha was Sasha and spent her time under a bed somewhere. Gus kept an eye on him, and Morgan slept through it all on another floor. Afterward all the cats spent a lot of time sniffing the places where the dog had sat.
Way too much food –When we have guests, we eat more regularly (or maybe just more!). This morning we had breakfast with our family guests and sent them off to the airport to catch a plane. (I can’t believe we didn’t take a single picture!) Much as I love a good breakfast, I was stuffed from the wonderful hamburger we had last night. There were also a lot of potato chips thrown in all week both as a “vegetable side dish” and as an “appetizer.” It may take awhile until I crave a chip again. Less carbs and more exercise is my mantra right now.
Dropping like flies – This week my first boyfriend in high school died. We were the same age. I couldn’t tell from the obituary what he had died from, but he knew the end was near. People my age are passing and one of these days it will be me. I hope I am as courageous as this guy was. He comforted his family by telling them his life was full and they should not be sad.
Quiet time – This week looks to be less busy than what we’ve experienced in the past few weeks. We have an appointment or two but it’s not overwhelming. I’m getting my hearing aids later in the week and we’ll see how that goes. I’m hoping for patience until I adjust to them.
So how was your week?

That’s a lot for one week! I’m sorry about your old boyfriend passing – it’s always a bit of a shock when you hear about people your age dying. I hope your hearing aids work out well! And hope you and the cats recover from all the peopling!

This week a guy I worked with a long time ago died. I was surprised to learn that he was 90. I hadn’t realized he was so much older.

I know you didn’t mean to be funny, but in my present awful state laughed at…dropping like flies. I’m sorry he passed, but find his stoicism uplifting because maybe when you’re about to take flight, somehow you know all is well. Good news for us.
As far as Gracie goes, sometimes a girl just isn’t all that impressed so easily. Now maybe if that pup had something to offer, like a salmon roll then she might have delayed her nap. I’m just saying…:)

It was my dark humor coming out! Sometimes it seems like contemporaries are dropping like flies. Since the pup didn’t run up to meet her, she was neither frightened nor interested. Just another day in this weird house she calls home.

Well, if it’s weird, it’s also beautiful and cozy with 4-legged friends to pass the time with. My kinda weird. 🙂

Less carbs, more exercise is a good mantra for me… all the time. I’m sorry about your high school boyfriend’s passing. I recently learned my first boyfriend in college died– and weirdly enough it hit me hard. So strange to realize how long ago it all was.

Sounds like you had a full week. Must’ve been weird to hear the news of your first bf. It would be wonderful if we could all be as brave. My first bf (and first kiss) in HS moved away a year after we broke up. I have no idea where he went and never heard news of him again. I was fickle back then, so we’d only gone out for a few weeks.
Good luck with the hearing aids.

This wasn’t anything long term either. Maybe 3 or 4 months. He was nice but I just wasn’t into him.

It was too peopley here everywhere we went this weekend. I guess if Sasha is comfortable and feels safe UTB than that is all that counts. I should have gone UTB. I considered going out to one of the cars in the garage. Hoping for a quiet week for all who need one.

It was lovely to visit with you as always, and to see all the cats but Sasha, of course. She clearly doesn’t remember who found her the right forever home, but that’s the way it goes!! Love your kitty room!

My cats love the kitty room too. At least one of them is always in it, sometimes three. Gracie visits it but it’s not a place she naps. Sasha, sigh. She was already buggered up with the other visitors. I don’t know why she is so fearful.

Sounds like a great week. And both Gracie’s look adorable. I’ve been driving around just admiring all the colorful trees lately. Fall is just sooooo beautiful this time of year! Hope you have a relaxing week.

That sounds nice to connect with your blogging friend. I remember when Anne and John Mehrling stopped by to visit you a few years ago. Anne connected with two other mutual bloggers, including one here for a year from India attending Yale for special studies related to a medical program equivalent to a Masters degree. Unfortunately she didn’t finish out the year due to the pandemic and all international students returned to their home country to finish their studies online. My 50-year reunion was on October 6th. I didn’t attend but I am in a Facebook group that was set up for the 40th reunion so they posted photos and a PowerPoint slideshow which anyone could view. A high school friend of mine was on the reunion committee and put together that PowerPoint presentation about everyone who died. Our class was 613 but it was sobering to see the 144 who have died and what they died from.

I was lucky to meet Anne and her husband. I don’t think she’s traveling anymore. She is just as nice in person as she is on her blog. That is a sobering number of dead classmates. My husband’s reunion would have a card on each table with the names of the dead. At first it was a small card. Last time it was a standard 8×11 sheet with both sides printed.

I remember Anne wrote about or told me she was excited to be going to meet you and John had the directions to make that side trip to visit you. Yes it was a sobering amount of classmates and we lost another two since my friend compiled the slideshow.

She is amazing. I wish I had her energy. The few times I have been involved in a rescue, it was emotionally draining for me. The last one that showed up in my yard was eventually rehomed as an inside cat. It was a tough transition. Although he was so good with me, he was fearful of multiple people. He ended up with a woman who lived alone with one other cat. Last I heard he adjusted and was enjoying life. He was such a beautiful cat. He had been TNR’d (which I didn’t realize until after we crated him. He was super friendly and playful, I don’t know why the rescue didn’t try to home him when they neutered him.

How nice to have had a visit from a blogging friend. It’s so interesting how the cats all behave differently in response to interlopers! 😉 Hope you do have a week to collect yourself. And I’m sure if you give it time you’ll do well with your hearing aids. I understand from friends it just requires patience.
I know what you mean about losing friends. It’s inevitable at our age that there will be more, but I don’t think it’s something we can easily adjust to! ❤️

I’ve had hearing aids for a while but I don’t wear them very often. I try to remember to put them on when I’m going to be with a group of people or like the other evening when I attended an author Q&A event. I have tinnitus too and I think they help a bit with that. I hope they work for you and that you are a better patient than apparently I am.

Last time I tried them, I lasted a month. At least these are rechargeable and I won’t have to deal with teeny tiny batteries every other day.

I am looking forward to your thoughts on how the hearing aids deal with tinnitus. I have that ringing thing in my ears. I can usually deal with it but watching tv is troublesome.

Watching a talk show is ok but the dramas and comedies, where they add laugh tracks or background music is hard. I’d love it if there was a device to do away with that. I’m sure I’ll post about my experience.

Good luck with your new hearing aids, Kate. BFF likes his since they help mask the tinnitus and amplify the right sounds.
Sounds like a good but busy week.
I get tired of eating out on vacation because I’m often still full from the last meal when mealtime rolls around again. And since I don’t want to “roll around” . . . I curb my enthusiasm for regular mealtimes when on vacation.
Too much food can be just as bad as too little.

I agree. We packed in a lot of eating choices our guests enjoyed. I skipped some lunches and lightened up my already light breakfast but I still felt like I overate all week. Soup tonight and it was wonderful. Just enough and not too much.

Yesterday we had a double birthday party for my daughter and my granddaughter. It seems that everyone in my family is a good cook, even my grandson, especially since he started subscribing to the NY Times recipes. The dish he brought yesterday was scrumptious. So when we have a potluck, especially with chocolate cake for dessert, we all eat too much. No potato chips, but I also need to do the less carbs and more exercise thing.
Yesterday I found out about a neighbor’s death. I think he was a little older than me, but not that much. Now I need to make a soup or something for the wife.

We decided to have soup today to “cleanse” our body. We had a lot of carbs so vegetables were in order! We have some good cooks in the family. The older ones are losing interest though. Good thing we have younger ones coming up.

Your cats did very well with Gracie. Very impressed no one went into the box spring. We are the same here–when folks visit, we have so much food leftover. Luckily, we have a garbage disposal disguised as our child.

Your week sounds almost overwhelming. I wouldn’t know if any of my high school friends died; it was a huge school, and I don’t keep up. Kudos to you for keeping up. May your friend’s memory be a blessing. Hearing aids was a real gamer-changer for my husband. It made a huge difference and he had little difficulty getting used to them. Enjoy them!

I don’t really “work” at keeping up. The obit was in our local paper so it was easy to notice although I wouldn’t have recognized him by the picture. It was a busy week. Fingers crossed for the aids. Hope they work for me too.

Lots of folks this past week so you’ll probably enjoy the quiet of this week. I hope you take to your hearing aids. The first adjustment for me was to realize I was old enough to need them. 🙂 I have wicked tinnitus, eustachian tube disfunction, and then add in my ‘mature’ age, and I definitely needed hearing aids. I wear them all the time except when I’m working outside or around loud tools. I like hearing so on they go. 🙂 Good luck with yours.

I really only want them for people conversations and some TV programs. Otherwise I like my nice quiet world. I have tinnitus too. Sounds like crickets most of the time. I’m keeping positive about this.

It’s interesting that it certainly doesn’t make the tinnitus go away, it just allows you to hear in spite of it.
