Gracie here. Gus has his surgery date. It’s Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Not my kind of celebration. Peep is her normal nuts. This morning I had to make biscuits in my blankie to calm her down. Gus is doing well now. Hopefully the surgery will prevent any further attacks.

Gus: You’re going to trim my junk? Seriously?

Gus was the star player this week. He’s getting a new diet which he isn’t fond of. Morgan likes his new food but that’s because she’s not supposed to eat it. If it was her diet, she’d hate it too. There are a lot of musical food dishes going on but it’s good exercise for the peep.

I’ve been good. I only barfed once and it was on the hardwood floor. I’m considerate like that but she better not expect that all the time.

Sasha and Morgan are doing well. At this point we are waiting for the surgery to see what upsets that will bring.

The peep says to thank all of you for your ongoing support. Technically the surgery is elective and has a 95% chance of resolving the ongoing urinary blockage problem but it’s still a hard decision. Personally I can’t wait until it’s over so the focus can go back to me.

  1. Gracie – you are so good at providing us a running commentary on the haps at the household. Kudos for your thoughtfulness in limiting how often and where you barf. The food musical chairs sounds baffling – only the peep is up to that task!

  2. Perhaps you could have a party for Gracie after Gus recovers. But she has to be very, very good between now and then.

    Good luck to Gus. May the surgery come and go as quickly as possible. And the stupid cone.

  5. I am glad that Gus is doing well, Gracie. Yep, I imagine it was a hard decision until it wasn’t. Sometimes hard decisions just fall in place. They move us forward. Gracie, it is good that you have been GOOD and given the Lady Peep a bit of a break. I am still sending good wishes, thoughts and prayers. Kate, you mentioned it would be the longest two weeks ever with the cone. Fingers crossed the time flies by like the time has been flying since I have wondered where did Thanksgiving and Christmas go? Going to be summer before we know it!

    • She’s anxious all right. This morning she has decided to give the UR food to the other three since they are all fighting for it. Once they can have it, they won’t want it. You know how that goes.

  7. Gracie, thank you for letting us know how it’s going! You are such a wonderful help to your lady peep, making biscuits for her and barfing very considerately on the hardwood part of the floor. Hopefully Gus’s surgery will take care of his problem and all will be well again at your house!

  8. Thank you for the update Gracie. I prefer vomit on the hardwood to the rug except when I am not home and it start to ruin the floor. Glad Gus feels better. Maybe after surgery he won’t need the food.

    • The peep was hoping that too but the surgeon said to keep him on it. She’ll have a discussion with his regular vet too. Fingers crossed that she can at least mix them up. Gus gets tired of the UT food.

  13. “Musical food dishes”! I don’t know how you do it, with multiple furry overlords. I can’t cope with just one. I hope all goes well for Gus on the 14th! We will be thinking of him.

  14. We’re sending pawsitive thoughts that surgery will do the trick and everyone can once again shine a spotlight back on you. We know about that musical bowl thing but fortunately ours only involves two different ones, not four of them. We hope the extra work for your mom is what keeps her so youthful. Have a calm weekend.

  18. I think Gus’s surgery date is a good sign…..Valentine’s Day is a day of love and we all love Gus and love gets us through all kinds of things. Yep! Cats are so incredibly weird sometimes about their food – and it can be rather expensive going through acres of different foods to find “THE ONE”. Would it be cheating to mix a tiny bit of his fave food flavor (of the week!) with his urinary diet??? 95% success rate is GOOD odds and on Valentine’s Day is a double good thing – the power of positive thinking might come in handy if you can muster it up!! Not easy I know…………….

    • His regular vet (who wants him on prescription food which I don’t buy) said if he eats any other food it negates the effect of a diet. I intend to ask when I pick him up if I can do a mix even if it’s only a little of the old food. Truth be told, he’s cleaning up the other plates of scraps so he’s getting some anyway. One vet said (about Gracie’s issues) any food you can get in them is better than none.

    • I’d love normal although “they say” I have to keep him on a urinary track diet. He really wants his Fancy Feast so feeding time is a challenge. This morning he was not having the chicken-beef flavor. He liked it last week. I wish he could pick out his own flavor!
