Gracie here. Oh Lordy what a week! It started peacefully enough. The peep even had an inspiration for a mid-week post (or so she says!). It didn’t fly. Morgan has not been eating with gusto (It’s a peep word) lately.
When she fed Morgan, she would eat a little and rub the side of her mouth as if something was caught in her teeth. Hmmm…good sign of teeth trouble. Out came the portal to hell and all the cats scattered, especially me. Lately I’ve been the “victim” of that thing. Morgan wasn’t concerned because she rarely goes to the vet. Just for vaccines and she’s not due. She’s the “perfect” cat except for the time she broke her leg and the peep’s bank account.
Mid-snooze the peep scooped her up. She was in the car and on her way before she knew what was happening. She didn’t even get a chance to select her choice of music so she sang. Morgan is not a loud singer. Just muffly sounds that break your heart.
The vet said that she needs a dental. Morgan is 12 and hasn’t had one yet which is unusual in our house. The peep adopts cats with bad teeth. She had blood work done (which was perfect) and was given antibiotics and a long-term pain medication. Her appointment was scheduled for two weeks out.
She came home and seemed chipper. She ate so maybe the pain meds had kicked in. She was dancing around a bit but the peep thought it was because she was so glad to be home.
Next morning she was crazy. She was rubbing the sides of her face as if it itched. She danced in circles. The peep went crazy. Called the vet. It was the side effects of opioid medication. The vet assured the peep that she probably saw purple unicorns too. It would wear off in a few hours to a few days but nothing to worry about. (The peep was wishing she could see purple unicorns!)
It’s two days now and she’s still seeing purple unicorns although her dancing is less pronounced. Still rubbing the sides of her face. The peep has been brushing her (she usually hates that) and Morgan has been self-medicating with my ZoomGroom thingie.
We have ten days until surgery. We are all trying to be extra nice to Morgan (except for me who tells her about how dreadful my dental was last December!). It’s not life threatening but we still worry.
Did you notice that it’s a holiday weekend here? The peep says we only have health crises on Fridays and holiday weekends.
As for Morgan, I think she named the unicorn. She’s also talking about trying out for the Rockettes dancing troupe. Whatev!

Sending good thoughts to Morgan!

Dang, dental issues just flat suck. So sorry for poor Morgan. Hoping she gets relief in the interim until the appointment. Sending loads of POTP her way.
The announcement that Jimmy had passed really caught me off guard. My sister and BIL are big time fans (aka parrot heads). We all had a margarita in his honor yesterday. RIP, Jimmy.

The reaction scared me as she was acting crazy. It took a good 48 hours for her to settle down but she’s back to normal. She isn’t batting her mouth so maybe she’s not in too much pain. The death caught me off guard too. He’s my contemporary so it’s always a shock that someone that “young” would pass.

My exact same reaction. Seems like too many of our contemporaries are exiting…doesn’t make me feel very good about that.

Oh no! Poor Morgan! Poor everyone under the same roof! I am sending healing vibes to you, dear Morgan, and to the Peeps, I hope you can resist sneaking some of those purple unicorn pills. I think I’d be looking for an escape! 🥲

🙂 No pills, just injection so no temptation. The peep asked the vet to give her an injection too next time!

Poor Morgan … Gracie, I know you can feel for her with all your teef problems. Sorry to hear your “sister” will be going through the same ordeal as you and it’s awful it takes so long to get this done. Hopefully no more hallucinations happen until the dental surgery – yikes!
Aside to the Peep – first thing I heard on the 5:00 a.m. news today was about Jimmy Buffet passing; I thought of you … we were just discussing him. Now I know why he’s not been in the Detroit area for awhile … they said he had been battling a serious form of skin cancer for four years and only did limited engagements.

I heard the news first thing this morning too. I didn’t hear what the cause was but surmised it wasn’t a surprise to friends and family. It’s a sad loss. He was one of the good guys. Did a lot for the environment and animals.

Apparently he had been in hospice care since last Monday. I read a wonderful tribute by Paul McCartney on Twitter, who was one of JB’s last friends to visit him. Apparently they were close friends for years. Yes, it is a sad loss in many ways.

Here’s Paul M’s tribute to Jimmy Buffet in case you missed it. I’m copying this from Twitter in a Jimmy Buffett tribute thread. Just delete this from Gracie’s post when you’ve read it.
***
It seems that so many wonderful people are leaving this world, and now Jimmy Buffett is one of them. I’ve known Jimmy for some time and found him to be one of the kindest and most generous people.
I remember once on holiday when I had forgotten to bring my guitar and was itching to play. He said he would get me one of his, but I said, ‘I’m left-handed’. So, Jimmy had his roadie restring one of his guitars which he loaned me for the duration of the holiday. He then followed this act of generosity by giving me my own beautiful left-handed guitar that had been made by one of his guitar-making pals. It’s a beautiful instrument, and every time I play it now it’ll remind me of what a great man Jimmy was.
He had a most amazing lust for life and a beautiful sense of humour. When we swapped tales about the past his were so exotic and lush and involved sailing trips and surfing and so many exciting stories that it was hard for me to keep up with him.
Right up to the last minute his eyes still twinkled with a humour that said, ‘I love this world and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it’.
So many of us will miss Jimmy and his tremendous personality. His love for us all, and for mankind as a whole.
Last, but not least, is his songwriting and vocal ability. If someone made an interesting remark he repeated it in his gorgeous Louisiana drawl and said, ‘That’s a good idea for a song’. Most times it didn’t take too long for that song to appear. I was very happy to have played on one of his latest songs called ‘My Gummy Just Kicked In’. We had a real fun session and he played me some of his new songs. One, in particular, I loved was the song, ‘Bubbles Up’. And I told him that not only was the song great but the vocal was probably the best I’ve heard him sing ever. He turned a diving phrase that is used to train people underwater into a metaphor for life when you’re confused and don’t know where you are just follow the bubbles – they’ll take you up to the surface and straighten you out right away.
So long, Jim. You are a very special man and friend and it was a great privilege to get to know you and love you. Bubbles up, my friend.
Love, Paul

Gracie, I feel so bad for Morgan. Hate she has to wait so long. I am reading your Peep’s comment to Zazzy that Morgan has past the hyper stage. Thanks Heavens. Tell Morgan I am thinking about her and I want the Lady Peep to know I am thinking about her too because I know she is frazzled. Hugs and scritches to you all!

The peep was hyper too. Both of them have settled down now. I had rotisserie chicken this morning and barfed it up. That always gets the peep excited. She says they don’t grow on trees! We keep her hyped up.

Poor Morgan! That seems like a long wait but we only have a dentist that visits every so often as well. I had a cat some years ago that hallucinated on a particular antibiotic. His invisible bugs were so real he had me and my dog over in the corner with him searching the floor and walls for them. I think the purple unicorns are worth it if it’s keeping the pain in check.

The purple unicorns are temporary. She seems to have past the hyper stage. It was an injection what will wear off. I’m just hoping that there isn’t too much pain as she waits for her slot. It was the soonest they could get her in. I was glad they did some things to help in the meantime.

Poor Morgan…..that dental appointment can’t come soon enough! I’m quite sure after that she will be calm, cool, and collected as usual.

We’ve been having some of the same problems, so we send lots of purrayers and POTP to your crew ! We have tried only giving half the amount of gaba prescribed, and mixing it into a bisque food.

The meds were given as an injection in the vet’s office. She did say that they would lower the dosage after the surgery since she had a reaction.

Best of luck Morgan (and Kate!)
When Tigger came home from his dental procedure, he DEMANDED to be fed . . . NOW! When we told Tigger that the Vet had said he wouldn’t be hungry until the next day. Tigger replied, “What does he know? He’s not a cat.”

I have no idea. I just just Memorial Day and I was wondering if I needed new summer clothes? Now I’m thinking sweat shirts (although we are predicted to be in the 90s next week!).

Poor Morgan, though the purple unicorns sound fun. Gracie has a dental on 9/15, so maybe Morgan and Gracie can commiserate together. Gracie has truly crappy teeth, and ends up getting a dental most every year. Typical of small dogs. Sigh.

Morgan is my “healthy” cat. I was a little lax on checking her teeth (which have been traditionally good). I’ve never had a cat go 12 years without at least one dental. Hugs to Gracie. Although it’s almost routine, I’m sure she doesn’t like it!

Yes, holidays and weekends are the only times medical emergencies happen! I think Ye Fates demand it be so. I hope the wait till the (very expensive) kitty dental appointment comes is reasonably uneventful and pain-free for the poor, handsome Morgan!.

You know how they hide their pain, though. I know you feel bad about it just the same.
When the late Louie the ginger kitty died of lymphoma, I felt terrible because he didn’t exhibit external symptoms and only stopped eating and being listless hours before he died.
His veterinarian helped me feel better about missing the signs since the cancer didn’t show externally.
I still cry, though, when I think about how he somehow managed to climb up into a dryer of a stacked washer/dryer to die. That’s, of course, where I found him.

Oh no. That’s an awful memory. I’ve had a few similar but different. Hazel didn’t feel good (that I could tell) all weekend. I took her Monday morning to the vet and didn’t come home with a cat. Massive tumor pressing on her lung and she never told me.
