Grand news – My 8-year-old granddaughter got her braces taken off. She may need some retainer-like device for a while in her early teens but all the discomfort and extra care is over. It’s wonderful that kids can get their teeth corrected early. When I was young the only kids who had braces had really bad teeth, really bad.
Say what? – Every once in a while the beloved husband asks me a cat question. Usually it’s rhetorical but sometimes there’s an answer. We have two doors next to each other. One goes to the garage (where the cats never go) and the other goes to a screened in porch (where they love to go). Both have the same metal door. He wants to know how they can tell the difference. If he opens the garage door to retrieve the newspaper, there’s no reaction. If he opens the porch door, there is a stampede. Even our hearing-impaired old cat can tell the difference. I have no answer.
Another sign that summer is over – I pulled the last of my zinnias out this week. We haven’t had frost yet but soon. I don’t like to work outside when the weather is cold. Awning is down and porch furniture is covered. 😦
Just the comics please – The news has been so bad and sad lately that I’ve taken to skimming the front section of the paper. You can’t skim the news on TV. Even if you avoid the news programs completely, they break into shows to update or run that little footer across the bottom. We watched a news helicopter filming the medical vehicle driving one of the nurses suspected of Ebola to the hospital facility. Really? It was OJ Simpson all over again.
All’s well that ends well – I drove my friend to her colonoscopy this week. When I picked her she said she wasn’t doing it again — not unless there is a medical reason. (Just for the record hemorrhoids are not a good reason!) It’s not so much the procedure itself although my last one left me sore for a week. It’s the clean out especially as you get older. That can upset your system and cause you to thoroughly house clean your bathroom. Enough said.
How was your week?

Your granddaughter’s smile says it all, Kate! What a beautiful girl and now with all the orthodontia behind her, she has good reason to smile! I enjoy your Random fives…

I’m sure you can find it on google or youtube if you are so inclined. It was so exciting watching a vehicle (you really couldn’t tell what kind it was) driving down a road. Just as fascinating as watching water boil.

Beautiful g’daughter there and I know she’s thrilled with her ‘no brace’ life. I had braces when I was 52…his oldest patient. Glad I did it.
Love your cats and their smartness…our precious Gibby has been very sick and is en route to the doctor…I’m nervous and worried.
Unfortunately we’re still in summer temps…90’s…yuck. Fall, please come soon…I love Fall. Our leaves are the only things ‘falling’.
My doctor ‘suggested’ I have a colonoscopy…been there, done that so I said I didn’t think so because as he knows I have a plate full and don’t need anything else. He looked at me with raised eyebrows (he’s so cute) and continued w/other things. As he was finishing he said, “I’m not forgetting about the colonoscopy”…we just grinned at each other. He hasn’t mentioned it again…whee!
Love your blog…always a bright spot…every time! Hugs!

You were lucky. I tried to get braces when I was in my 30s but at that time they didn’t like to do adults so I suffered with crooked teeth until a found a wonderful dentist in my 50s who worked his magic. We have had a very mild fall so I shouldn’t complain (but don’t we anyway?). Wouldn’t mind a few more weeks of 70s. As for a colonoscopy, my last one was rough so I’m not anxious. I would do it if there was a medical reason but I’m holding out as long as I can. Thanks for the kinds words about my blog.

I don’t know why we take the paper. I go right to the crossword puzzle. And thank goodness for the TV mute button but usually use it for the ads. Sometimes it’s hard the tell the ads from the program. Both can be goofy.

When I record a program and fast forward through the ads, it’s always hard to tell when the ads stop. There should be an app for that!

Your granddaughter looks beautiful with her new teeth! I had braces as an adult a couple years ago. If you ever need to lose weight, get braces and you’re guaranteed to drop at least ten pounds. I was so happy to get them removed. I now have upper and lower permanent retainers behind my teeth to keep them from shifting. Yes, as we age, our teeth shift as other areas drop.
After twenty plus colonoscopies so far…I’ve gotten over the horror of the preparation.
Beautiful flowers, Kate!

I look forward to your Random 5s! Had to laugh at the “stampede” to the porch door opening 🙂 Your grand-daughter is a cutie, what a nice smile. Isn’t it amazing how early Dentists can do orthodontics now? When I was a kid the ones wearing braces were in high school!!
Haven’t had a Colonoscopy yet although I get a cheerful reminder from my Dr’s office about once every 6 mos. I swear they hire a Barney-sound alike to leave the message. Just hearing it makes everything slam shut 🙂
Happy Sunday!

Believe the stuff they have you take paralyzes any ability to slam shut! You should get one. They had me on every 5 years because of the breast cancer but I’m stretching it out.
I’ve said it before I got the idea from your Friday R5. Love your week wrap up.

I really look forward to the R 5…your granddaughter, how sweet is she…and she’s eight. Has her whole life ahead of her with straight teeth to boot. I’m happy for her.
Love the cat ? There are no reasons why they do or don’t do anything and make you see it’s a cult to be sure. I had no idea you had a hearing impaired cat…please tell Jake, I kinda think it’s him…I hear him…no pun intended.
Winter, yes…it’s knocking. I just came in from a run with 4 layers on though people were out there in shorts. I chill so easily I can’t do that.
As far as that procedure your friend had goes…I’m due and already cancelled once. The whole ordeal makes me want to hide. I can’t get over how pricy that stuff is you have to torture yourself with the night before…even with a co-pay. The medical community along with their pharmaceutical pals can all go scratch, as my Aunt Tillie used to say . I HATE THEM…but love the Random 5 🙂

Thanks! Yes, it is Jake with the hearing issue. He also has cataracts but he’s still kicking and doing well. I’ve had several of those “procedures” all as a part of screening. I am through. When I have a reason I’ll get it done but not just for routine screening. They never found anything at all.

They scare you with their…well you are due…and suddenly you hear someone has colon cancer and you freak out…I don’t know. I am SO SICK of doctors. Do you think it’s odd a cat has a CATaract? Hmm…food for thought. 🙂
