Our trees do not look this. Maybe they will or maybe this will not be the year for it. Source: pondpikecabins
Yikes! – It’s all hallows eve this week. How did that happen. Where was July? Oh yes, I was hiding from the insane heat. I need to live on a tropical isle with a constant comfortable temperature and cell service. Oh yes, and a Starbucks. Maybe a tiki bar too.
You gotta love a sense of humor – One of the local rescues is having a “Testicle Festival.” Yes, I looked twice too. It’s a chance to neuter your pet for free or at a very low cost. Everyone here is either past that stage or is already altered so no reproducing.
What did I get from my ancestors? – Besides everything? Every few months I get an email from Ancestry.com about a new trait that I inherited. Most of the time it’s not a surprise. They told me I don’t like cilantro. I already knew that as it tastes like soap (that’s a genetic thing). I don’t like heights. Yep, that’s me who occasionally hovers on the top step of a ladder. You know the one. It says this is not a step. This week I learned that I don’t like scary movies. I don’t. I inherited that from both sides. My mom was a romcom lover. I think my dad liked cowboy stories. (He died when I was young so that’s the best I remember.)
The very last one – Today I gave the last eardrops to my cat Sasha for her ear issue. No one (not even me) likes ear drops. She had to have them for 7 days, twice a day. She was mostly good until yesterday when she announced, “that’s it! No more human!” Today I snagged her for her last dose, and we all celebrated with a round of kibble. (Well, not me. I had my mocha!)
Fall, the beauty and the melancholy – We are moving into peak leaf colors here. Originally, they said it would be a good year for color. I’m not seeing it. Maybe some of the trees are running late. It’s all beautiful. Then there will be the excitement of the holidays. Then we have three months of grey punctuated with awful driving conditions until we can get spring to come back from that tiki bar at the islands where she winters. Sigh.
So how was your week?

The fall colors are limited here as well. For my birthday every year (the 17th), I always like to go a State Park or on vacation to see the colors. This year we just went to a park and I brought my camera along. Nothing! Mostly everything was still green. I was so disappointed. One week later we tried another Park, there was a little more, but mostly just dead leaves on the ground and still green on many trees. The weather has been extremely warm for October. Mid-70s for most of this month. Probably why. 😕Have a nice week.

That pic of “fall color”! Perfect.
Those Ancestry traits? The gardener gets them–I don’t. Even though it’s me who set up the account, who handles the account, who does the genealogy, HE gets his traits. That’s because they have the account set to him for some stupid reason. And they won’t let me change it. I saw somebody mention AI and Ancestry and while that’s not why you’re hearing about your traits, I have felt very recently as if Ancestry is using AI because all of a sudden I have these amazing hints I never got before.
My bank is also using AI because twice now I have gotten letters about checks I’ve sent to businesses saying my bank said there was no such account. Uh huh. As the account ON THE CHECK from the account I’VE HAD FOR OVER 25 YEARS. Right. (Sarcasm alert, of course). Just AI screwing up.
Yay for the end of the ear drops!

I can usually tell when a writer uses AI. The story is too something, maybe perfect or too sterile. Time will tell have this all will play out.

People are identifying certain language constructions and syntax, too, but the problem is real writers use them too!

Your Ancestry notations are interesting. Makes me wonder if they’re employing AI and Google to recall everything you’ve ever searched for on the ‘Net. And yes, I probably am a conspiracy theorist when it comes to the Internet and AI. Here’s hoping the last week of October is good for you all, at least the ear drops are done. Yay.

Some things they have listed for me are not things I researched. Perhaps they gather information too but it’s been an interesting ride.

Aw, I’m glad she’s done with the drops. I love fall. I’m hoping for those colors to hit here soon!

Our maple finally started to turn red. It’s beautiful but a late bloomer (or maybe late to turn color).

We took a drive along a river and up into the mountains this week. It was a nice drive, but, really, the best color is in the city where people plant all the best trees. Out in nature, there’s mostly one or two kinds of trees turning at a time.
Does Ancestor.com really tell you specific things you inherited? All I hear from them is where my ancestors came from.

Yes, I get emails periodically about inherited traits and they are always right. Nothing that will change my life but oddball things like asparagus makes my pee smell. Stuff that makes me giggle.

Testicle festival, that’s a hoot.
I’m not so sure I want to know what I got from my ancestors.
Thanks for the fun post!

I am lucky that no major illnesses are in my family line. You gotta die of something but it’s mostly old age.

It hasn’t been a great year for color here either…..not enough cold nights, and maybe only one mild frost. But I can sacrifice a little leaf color for these balmy temps. The longer winter stays away the better. Glad Sasha is better.

We’ve had frost 3 days in a row now and I’m starting to see more color. It’s either late or it will be mild this year. Sasha is much better.

That’s an attention getter to advertise pet neutering. I didn’t know Ancestry got to the nitty gritty of inherited taste preferences too! We are having showier leaves than the last two years when we were in moderate drought. Peak week for leaf peeping in Southeast Michigan is this week, so I’ll get out again before the wind or rain drops the leaves to the ground. Yay for Sasha finishing off the drops. I was just a kid but I remember our pet poodle had recurring ear infections and had daily drops and vet appointments, at one time, on a weekly basis for his ears.

Sasha gets ear issues periodically. She had an infection at the beginning of the year. Not sure why. Her ears are normal sized. Gus’s canals are narrow and he’s more prone to yeast.

This year has flown by. Glad Sasha is done with the ear drops. I don’t like cilantro either. :)

Nice post. They have specials here too for neutering, usually cats, have not seen one for dogs.
Maya will not be spayed after she has her pups unless it’s for medical reasons. Personal thing. Not long to go now.

I hope you get that burst of color from the trees. Mine are always more muted than yours.

We may be slow this year but I’m not seeing the brilliant colors this year.

Testicle Festival! A most excellent event to get those pups and cats neutered!
Good news that Sasha’s ear drops are history and that she is doing better!
Years ago I watched scary movies but no more, nothing violent either. Makes my stomach go into acid overdrive. Our week was perfect weather. It’s the kind of week that has people doing the snowbird thing. It was a long wait. It was already brutally hot and humid in June.
Hope you are having a nice Sunday. Sundays are my favorite day of the week!

Today has been pleasant. Sundays have never been my favorite day and I don’t know why. It’s not about the “Monday” thing. I think it’s a non-routine day that seems to get wasted unlike Saturday when there is stuff to get done. I know. None of that makes sense.

Testicle Festival? 😆 I love it. Although at first read I thought you were going to say it was a big truck rally or something similar. Have you seen trucks in your area with metal testicles hanging off the back end? I saw one parked downtown last week and couldn’t resist kicking those danglers – yes, I am 5…😜

No, I haven’t seen them and yes, they need to be kicked! I wish I were 5!

Love the Testicle Festival!! That’s a riot. Colors are just coming out here and looking lovely. Wish it didn’t remind me that winter was next. So glad Sasha’s ear drops are done. I hope they helped. One of my current petsitting fosters needs eye drops everyday…so not fun

My issue with the ear drops was that it was a squeeze bottle. I was supposed to put around 7 drops in the ear but I couldn’t see what I was doing once the dispenser was inside the canal. Should have been a bottle with a dropper. She was good until yesterday. I was only able to administer once and did the second one with morning. She is a good cat mostly. Gus cannot be found when the fridge door opens (that’s where the ear drops are).

That’s funny that Gus runs where the fridge door opens. What is Tresaderm you were giving? I always stick it in my pocket for a minute or two before giving so it warms up a bit. I wouldn’t care for cold drops in my ears either!

I should probably have done that but I didn’t. It will take a while until Gus is desensitized. He needs his ears cleaned. No problem now but his left canal is small and gets gunky.
