Say what? – I was trying to log on to a website and got a new (to me) error code. It was 502 bad gateway. It’s self-explanatory and it made me smile. I’d love to oversee naming error codes along with paint or nail polish colors! My favorite color for toenails is “I’m not really a waitress.” It’s a perfect red for me. As for error codes, I’ve seen my share of bad gateways in life.
Seriously? – I’m giving my cat Morgan a liquid antibiotic. It is cherry flavored. Argh! She doesn’t like it and I don’t think I would either. If you are going to flavor a medication for a cat, wouldn’t you pick chicken or tuna or even catnip? Her steroid medication is vanilla flavored which smells nice. I don’t know how she feels about that. Generally, she doesn’t like any meds! She’s all cat!
Speaking of Morgan – For those who read my Friday post about her health, the medications have helped. She is stabilized. The question is whether there is an underlying issue that will resurface when the meds are finished but that’s a question for another day. Right now, we are enjoying her antics. She’s taking a steroid which is making her very perky. I need that med for me!
More downsizing? – I’ve done minimum holiday decorating this year and I don’t miss the rest. After the holidays, I’m going to pack up everything we didn’t use in a box to donate next November. Sometimes life makes decisions for you (decline in energy, interest, stuff that happens, etc.) and we all know that less is more.
It’s winter solstice! – We’ve had some wintery weather, so the day doesn’t mark anything outside of the meteorological community. Way back it may have brought in the holiday season, but we changed that by starting black Friday sales in October. Now it’s just another day and the start of the countdown until spring. (Ok, maybe we won’t start that until January 2nd!)

Finally got all the Christmas packed yesterday. We have several boxes/tubs: one for giant tree, one for medium tree, and the small tree which is is pillow cased with lights and ornaments on. The big tree hasn’t been up for a couple of years – we’ll see – maybe once more after we relocate (eventually. Med. issues keeping us close here right now).
We put up enough minimum/medium tree this year, too. It worked ( and still took long enough to pack all away)
I’m beginning to understand and appreciate why my parents as they aged always had the stuff out of the attic and ready for us to fix their tree on Thanksgiving!
Keep the jingle alive!

You are more ambitious than I am. Our only tree is about 3 to 4′ and permanently decorated. Even with that it’s a chore get out and set up!

Actually the tree has been up since COVID. It was cheery, promised continued good luck, and I was tired. HAHAHAHA

Cherry-flavoured antibiotic? Wow, what memories that brings! As a child, I remember being prescribed something called Penidural (if I recall the name correctly). Basically, it was cherry-flavoured penicillin. I loved it! Can you imagine???

My cat did not love it and it was sticky. When she was trying to fight me off it would get on her fur. That didn’t make her happy!

So glad that Morgan is feeling better, and hope she is cured long term! Cherry is a weird flavor for cats – almost any savory flavor would be better for them. ? I know what you mean about holiday decorating downsizing over time.

She is going back to the vet today. Not enough progress. One day at a time.

That is great that Morgan is feeling perky on the meds. I hope she stays that way and gets 100 percent better!
I have seen the same 502 code. Crazy!
Cherry flavored does sound strange for cats!
Yes, less is more. 🙂
Merry Christmas !

I recently had to give my cat steroids and the doctor prescribed a med you just rub on the inside of the ear. No fuss. So easy on both of us. I did have to go to a compounding pharmacy for it and obviously it was more expensive – but so worth it. My sister does the ear rub stuff for thyroid meds for her cat. I don’t know if they can antibiotics, but it seems worth the ask.

There are only 2 days left for the antibiotic. I tried to get a pill because that’s easier usually. She has been good about the liquid and not spitting it out but she doesn’t like it. Fortunately Morgan is a good cat. If this was Gus or Sasha they would hide when they see me coming with a paper towel covered thing. I used an ear rub (on another cat) for an appetite stimulant. Worked easy but I had to clean the ear flap because she it seemed to make the skin flake.

A cherry flavored med for a cat sounds like cruelty- poor Morgan. I am glad it is helping though. I am ready to downsize Christmas stuff too. I will never downsize my Halloween stuff though. 🙂

And error codes……….I get 404 sometimes, I have no clue what it means except that I can’t access what I want – lol!
Enjoy your Christmas and New Year’s! Be safe and healthy including your fur babies!

Thanks! 404 is normal. 502 was new (to me). I’m not sure what either means except, like you, I can access what I want.

Cherry flavored pet meds?? That just sounds all kinds of wrong. As for the ice and salt meme, we set a record today and expect to top 70 tomorrow. In December. Talk about wrong! On the plus side, the winds seem to have passed and Xcel Energy has left us plugged in for a whole 2 days in a row. Whoopee…ever so grateful for electricity again. Life without it is just miserable.

Life without electricity is annoying and cold. I wondered if dogs like cherry and it was made more for dogs. Or…Maybe it was a pediatric med. Made no sense to me. We are in typical cold just now. I really like the shoulder seasons. Not too hot and not too cold.

It’s supposed to be 73F today. In December!! Personally I’ve never tasted a cherry flavored medication that was palatable. Wilson and I send our sympathies to Morgan and hope they help her out.

I like cherries–real cherries. But cherry-flavored med? Argh.
I was taking a steroid for my lungs. Then I found out I had osteoporosis, and steroids are bad for my bones. What to do?
Hurray for the solstice. Tomorrow will be a bit longer than today.

Yes, steroids and bones don’t get along! Bing cherry ice cream is ok!

I laughed at the bears in the den meme. 🙂 That’s good news about Morgan and hopefully the awful-tasting meds were the cure she needed. It has felt like the Winter Solstice since Thanksgiving and it’s frigid here again today, but near 40 and rain for Christmas Day.
I vow to work harder on Christmas decor next year. I donated to Guiding Eyes for the Blind for years and only stopped as they sent non-stop packages of all types of cards, address stickers, wrapping paper/holiday bags, calendars, even tote bags as a result of donations. I have a bit of a problem with that … send less and use the money as you ask for it, to train guide dogs for the blind. The gifts are all nice, but I don’t buy/wrap gifts and only send Jacquie Lawson e-cards now, except to my friend Ann Marie as she sends me a paper card. I stopped donating to this organization five years ago, but they keep sending items. I put them away, even asked them to stop – they continue. It’s a good organization and their cards are very nice, but yes, mine are stacked up too. I’ll never use that many cards in my lifetime. (Funny, I remember something I forgot about ’til now – years and years ago, my mom ordered me some fun address stickers with my name on them. There were 100 or so in the package and she handed them to me and said “I didn’t know how many to order – how long will you be keeping this name?” So, here I am, all these decades later and still with the same name.)

The past few years charities have been sending less stuff. Still the address stickers but not as many cards and no merch. I did get calendars though and I use only one.

That makes sense to me – these gifts are all nice, but there can be too many too. It is a great charity though. They used to feature the new puppies on the Today Show. I don’t watch the show, but I’d get brochures from them showing their guest appearances. My mom and I used to donate to Smile Train for children needing cleft palate surgery, but they sent gifts all the time – strange things, like tiny blankets. We wrote and suggested less gifts = more $$ for your charity, then stopped giving. I got a calendar from Best Friends, the charity you mentioned in one of your posts after the California wildfires. I donated then and also when Carol (my cat friend you kind of know) lost her husband suddenly this year.

I don’t get merchandise other than the calendar from Best Friends. I don’t donate when I get stuff unless it’s a charity I believe in.

I’ve only received the calendar from Best Friends, so they will be a favorite charity from me and I like what they do. I had not heard of this organization before you posted about it last year. Same here … there are a lot of organizations that squander donations, even if they are legitimate.

I thinned out my Christmas decorations last year….it’s a good feeling, and saves time sorting through boxes of stuff you’re never going to use. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen catnip/seafood flavoring for liquid antibiotics but what a good business idea!

You can get pet meds compounded with all sorts of different flavors. Some meds have a bad taste and are difficult to administer. I’m just surprised it was cherry. Maybe a dog would like it but not a cat.

My cat wouldn’t like cherry flavor meds either. This year I put out less decorations.

I meant to donate or give away unused Christmas decorations and wrapping this year but put it off too long. Oh well, there is always next year… I have a lot of non-Christmas wrapping and ribbons too that we never use. My resolution for 2026 is that WAY more stuff goes out of the house than comes in.
Good news about Morgan! I hope she continues to improve.

Fruit-flavoured meds? For a cat? What an absolutely terrible idea. Whoever designed that had clearly never met a cat.

That’s what I thought. The worst part is you can smell them so she knows when I’m coming with her dose.

They really did miss a trick not making it meat- or cheese-flavoured. Cats aren’t even meant to know what cherries are.

Not a Christmas in July fan. Just more lugging of decorations for a non-holiday. The spirit year round would be a great thing.

I’m really cutting back on decorating. I have small touches in every room….every day things that can be seasonally swapped out to remind us of the season or holiday. It’s enough!!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes! I don’t have a lot of room to set extra stuff around. I have a mantel so I decorate that with just a very few other touches and a 3′ Christmas tree that is permanently decorated. I had a much bigger house. It’s amazing how much stuff you collect when you have the space!

So true. I have a whole room in the basement dedicated to holidays. I have all my Christmas decorating done, and except for the big tree, you can’t even tell anything has been taken out of it. I need to get rid of some stuff!!

Steroids will do that. Makes coffee seem like a nightcap. And a cherry antibiotic. Morgan’s tastebuds are under siege. I recommend serious cuddling to make up for it all. Where’s that Gus.

I am for Margaritas!!!
Very good news about Morgan. A perky Morgan… you think there could be a picture of her and her perkiness?? Is that recent of her giving you the “party on” look? Fingers crossed the meds work their magic and it’s the end of the issue.
I think the packing up of what you didn’t use this year and getting rid of it next November is a great strategy. Not so much work all at one time next year!

The picture was from this summer. I’ve been trying to get some new ones but most are of her napping (her favorite pastime) or eating (second favorite!). She hopped in my lap this week but by the time I picked up my phone, she was gone.

Good news on Morgan. Paws crossed that she continues to rebound after the cherry-flavored (WTF!) meds and steroids are gone.
Maybe you can donate the unwanted decor this year? If you need extra energy to pack it up, steroids to the rescue! 😀

Our local donation center only takes Christmas stuff from November 1st to Christmas. I’ll have to wait until next year or find another place. I have my moments when I’d like to take something to crank me up to go faster!

We put a box of Christmas stuff we weren’t going to use aside as well, and it gets donated. Or our neighborhood is having a big yard sale in May…maybe we’ll sell it for pennies then. I’m glad Morgan is stable for now – hope that holds for the whole holiday season. Cherry flavored med for cat…nope.

Yep – let’s hear it for margaritas…..”tis the season” that’s for sure. Anyway, I’ve done the decorating cut-back thing this year and am glad about it. So much less “work” and a lot more enjoying the holiday. Glad Morgan is feeling perky and hopefully there is nothing ELSE going on that rears its’ head after she finishes her meds. I’ve seen that 502 warning lately too – why don’t they just say “STOP! You’re About To Enter The Portal of the Damned!! Turn Around Immediately!” – at least that’s somewhat entertaining. 🙂
Hugs, Pam
