Happy Mother’s Day – Today we celebrate mothers in the US. My mom is long gone but I still miss her.
More technology blips – I have a new electric toothbrush. I’ve been using electric toothbrushes for 25 years and haven’t had a cavity. They work until they die. This week my brush did an unusual beep series when I put it back on the charger. I wasn’t sure what it meant. This is how the conversation went.
ME: What’s up little toothbrush? Not happy?
Toothbrush: long buzz, 3 short ones
ME: Gotta bellyache? Feeling lonely?
Toothbrush: long buzz, 3 short ones
Since the conversation was going nowhere, I checked with Google. My new toothbrush tells me when to change the head. It has a beep series that means “change my brush head dummy!” I changed the head and peace returned to the bathroom. Except for a shower leak that we must figure out. Always something.
No more football! – I finally went to the doctor this week to check out a head whack that has been giving me constant headaches. At a minimum I have a concussion. This week I’m having a CAT scan to see if there is a subdural hematoma. Unless it’s big, there is no treatment. My symptoms are limited to headaches and an occasional loss of balance so I’m hopeful it’s no big deal. The doc says no more football. 😊 (And no, I never played)
The good news – The scabs finally fell off. Having them matted in your hair is not fun and all you can do is wait. I couldn’t see anything on the top of my head, so I tried to be careful combing and washing my hair.
Just one more thing – I’m getting the CAT scan at our local hospital. I hate going there. The parking is tough and finding the car afterward is tougher. It’s too peopley and they are sick people. I asked my doc if I could go to a “standalone” facility. He said he’s sure they are around but he doesn’t know where, so off to the hospital with me.
So how was your week?

I’m glad you are getting that head wound looked at and hope it all turns out OK. So glad your scabs are gone – they are no fun at all on your head and in your hair.
I also have an electric toothbrush but have never heard that signal! Wonder if its a new thing they are just now starting to include? We used to just have to remember to do it.

It may be a new thing. My toothbrush is an inexpensive Sonicare and it’s the first that has it.

Ouch, on the head and headaches! I hope all is well on the CT scan and the headaches and loss of balance , go away soon and that you are fine.
I understand about the frustration of no parking spaces at the hospital. Ours waa like that for a while until they finally added more parking when they added on.
(((Hugs))) about your Mom. 💕

I’m hoping that 5:30 pm at the doctors’ offices building isn’t busy. Sometimes I park by the ER and walk.

That should be a good time to go. Fingers crossed that it is!

Good luck with the scan, and grab a mask before heading into the hospital. Seriously, there certainly are sick people there.

I’m so glad that you simply needed a new brush for your electric toothbrush. My last toothbrush began to make funny beeps and then promptly died with no recovery. 😦

I thought it was dying too but it’s only a few months old. I didn’t spend a lot of time reading the directions when I got it. It has a brush head signal and light. May I should read instructions before I use something.

Hi Kate, I’ve been out of circulation for a while. Not sure what happened to you with your head injury; sounds like it involved a football. I can smypathize as I fell last week and banged my head too. I hope it is not an epidemic. 🙂 I won’t go into details here as it’s a long story. (What isn’t?) Maybe I will get off my duff and start blogging again. Hope you recover soon.

Wow! It’s been a while. Your stories are always interesting and complicated. I just whacked my head by getting up under a house bump out. Mostly just stupid!

I’m glad you got the toothbrush figured out so easily. Who knew a toothbrush could talk to you.
The bump on the head is turning out to be a more difficult fix. I had migraines for many years, so I really sympathize with the headaches. I hope the scan goes well. Best wishes.

I’ve never been a “headache” person so it’s been annoying. Makes me cranky too.

I saw that. It’s happened to me on other bloggers posts and I have no idea why.

There are a lot of CAT things that are nice, but I suspect a CAT scan in a peopley, sick place is not one of those nice CAT things. I’m glad you are getting it checked out at any rate. High-tech toothbrush … there you go making me feel like a dinosaur again. 🙂 Although, I am a proud owner of a new cordless Waterpik. I have not tried it yet. The dentist asked why I spend money on floss sticks when I can floss for free with water? (Well, you have to buy the gizmo first so technically it is NOT free.) He said “get cordless and use it in the shower” and I dated myself when I said “I’ve not used a Waterpik since I had a plug-in type when I wore braces circa 1976 – 1979.” He probably wasn’t even born then.
I came home from a long walk, plunked down and fired up the computer which had a meltdown for some reason and kept shutting itself down. I was not amused and had not treated it badly on Saturday, so I have no idea what its issue is, so I am on the old laptop and maybe tomorrow, even though it is Monday, it will cooperate.

There is always something. I’ve never used a water pik. My dentist who retired convinced me to go with an electric decades ago. My hygienist says it has made a difference. Not a lot of tartar for her to clean.

I had braces on my teeth for three years, as an adult. They were the type that wrapped around your entire tooth, not like the later type that were just on the front of the tooth. My orthodontist said “scrub your teeth and use the Waterpik twice a day or you may have lines on your teeth where the braces where. So I obsessed about that – they were fine. I have never tried an electric toothbrush. I spent three hours this morning with HP – not on the phone, chat sessions and they remoted in to find the problem after I did two diagnostics and found nothing. Everything is fine now, however, I dread shutting down as the tech said shut down, unplug everything, reboot and push the power button and F7 simultaneously and it should bring it back … I said will you call or contact me? They did not contact me. Hopefully it shuts down properly without a hard shutdown but I have no expectations as it took 1/2 hour to reboot. It is not even a year old!

I hate battles with technology because I don’t understand stuff. We are lucky that we have a local guy. He can remote in or stop by as he is very close. I hate those chat things. Sometimes it takes forever for them to respond to you. I think they have several chats going on at the same time.

You will not believe this but it is now 10:30 and I was on five different chats with HP today starting around 9:00 a.m. – each one had a different “thought process” and remoted in, but it was the very last tech that said Microsoft rolled out an update 24H2 that was buggy and they were going to release a fix for it today, so he did some BIOS things (over my head), then said Microsoft had released the fix – that was at 9:00 p.m. and he downloaded it, signed off and it is big as it is now installing at only 50%. Supposedly when my computer restarts after the update it will be back to normal. HP is a good product and I’ve never had an issue with them in the past and I have my original HP laptop bought in 2009 (Windows 7). I could have eliminated an entire day of my life spent in chat sessions, never phonecalls, all chat and remote sessions with these techs. Thankfully it is still under warranty. I think they have several chats going on too, especially when they are doing some type of update.

I have HP too but only use them when the warranty is active. After that my “guy” is cheaper, faster and speaks perfect English.

Well, happily the problem is resolved by Microsoft’s “fix” that they happened to roll out just as the tech was going to try a system restore back to May 7th (the week before the rollout of the buggy update), when he saw the “fix” for that buggy update arrived. He downloaded it at 9:00 p.m. and said “wait ’til it downloads, installs, restarts and you’ll have your computer normal again.” I waited until 3:00 a.m. when it was still installing but had been at 97% for hours. So I left the computer on and went to bed, something I never do. This morning, I got up later, the install was done, but I still had to do a hard shutdown. I was mad, but hours later when I got here, it booted up and has shut down normally. Thank goodness it did not have to go back to the shop – the warranty expires in early June.
In all those hours with HP, I never spoke to one of those five techs, just chat sessions/remote sessions. HP is a good product and not as expensive as Lenovo or even Dell or Apple.
What an ordeal! Now maybe I’m ready to tackle the cordless WaterPik.

Yes, me too – they contacted me today to ask if the problem was resolved and was I pleased with the techs (I had five of them, but only the last one figured out the problem). The ants are dwindling to one or two a day – yay for that. Will you update us on your head bump tomorrow?

CAT scan didn’t show any hematoma (good) so it’s only a concussion. Still have headaches but much milder and if I take Advil, it takes care of it. I found 2 ants at the cat dishes this morning. New place. Hope it’s not a new invasion.

That’s good … and you know you will avoid that overhang in the front yard the rest of your gardening days! After clunking my noggin on the upper kitchen cupboard door, I always look first before bending for the bottom cupboard. No ants for me finally and I turned on the light in the bathroom with some trepidation following our horrible storm, winds, hail last night. I was up til 3:00 until they took the tornado watch off … this weather is making me old.

You lucked out. We had three tornadoes in Michigan but the western part of the state – I live in the SE part of Michigan. But we have a storm again tonight, same time frame of 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. I am monitoring several weather sites and hope I luck out again tonight.

I heard we had seven tornadoes altogether over two days in the western part of the state. I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. this morning to ensure they weren’t headed in my direction as they always cross from west to east. Thankfully no damage – other states had deaths. We did not. I am not liking this volatile weather at all.

Ouch! Hope the CT Scan doesn’t show a thing (except for your brain of course with no dents!). Seriously though having a sore head and headache for that long takes a lot of out of you so hopefully it’s just something that takes time. My husband has a CT Scan this week too – I’ll tell him he’s not alone.
Hugs, Pam

Okay. I understand your dislike of going to the hospital, BUT once upon a time I was sent to one of those stand alone places… and my doc didn’t like the quality of the image… so I had to do it again… which was worse because once in annoying, but twice is awful. Just saying.

Well, perhaps it’s a good thing then. My apt is for 5:30 p.m. I didn’t think they scheduled that late but it’s at the doctor’s office section so the parking may not be too bad. Most doc offices close at 4 p.m.

When I got in, I’m going to ask. The staff knows. I should have had his admin person who made the appointment ask the hospital. They have a lot of satellites around with different capabilities.

So glad you’re looking after the head injury-it sounded like a concussion when you first mentioned the headaches, Kate. It’s probably best to go to the hospital for the CAT scan, many urgent care locations don’t have the equipment to run those scans and if they do, they’ll need to send the results to a specialist to read the results, delaying a report. Sending positive thoughts your way.
