Tuesday is the day. Both Gus and Sasha go in for dental work. When I made the appointments, it seemed like a good idea to do them both at once. Now I wonder.
They may be more comforted seeing each other at the vet but I did it for me. I get anxious whenever I take my cats to the vet. I ooze anxiety and the cats pick up on it. Everyone clears out. Somethings up. The peep is weird. (Well, weirder than usual.) Under the bed everyone!
They practice their singing voices. They choose their musical pieces for the ride over. Sasha is more of a Carmen opera diva. Gus is into the Righteous Brothers. (Note to self: do not put in hearing aids!)
They see the carriers out. Even though they’ve been out for a month, they can sense today is different. Especially with any procedures where I can’t feed them. I’ll give them an extra last supper before midnight, then contain them in the cat room. If I don’t, they will catch and eat a mouse although they haven’t eaten one before. They think dead mice are gifts to give peeps for more treats. I swear they pose them in the hallway with the hopes that we will be overjoyed.
I’m working on acting normal. I don’t know what normal looks like but I’m working on it. The good news is that I have some meds to give them with their last supper that should help. Maybe. Maybe I need the meds!
Silver lining — Morgan will enjoy being an only cat for eight hours. Then she will smell them and determine they smell funny and need a bath. Then all hell will break out. I can hardly wait.
Wish us luck.

Paws crossed all went well.

Oops, I’ve been sick most of the week and trying to catch up from the oldest posts first. Apologies. That said, I hope all goes well.

Good luck. I have taken my dogs together buts it’s too hard. One is 120 pounds. We all hate the visit.

I will have 30 pounds of unhappy cats in cages. My husband will help me manage. Hopefully the gabapentin will help too. It’s for them, not me.

Kate, things should go well. But I will wish you lots of luck anyway. Do you have a spray or wipe for them when they get home? There is one that will cut down on that “vet smell.”

I should rub them with one of my dirty tee shirts. That should do it!

Kate, you’ve got this! I’m thinking they will either soothe and calm each other or sing a song of their people duet that will set the car rocking… HAHAHA! Good to hear you have some good drugs! Fingers crossed for a smooth not chaotic trip and and all is good teeth cleaning and a lump that’s nothing ♥

It will soon be over. I’d like a quiet rest of the year from everything stressful.

Whew! Best of luck! Getting cats to the vet is always a chore. 2 at once will be good because then it’s over with. Hope the meds help them keep calm and then also you 🙂

Hoping they don’t pick up on my anxiety. It will be a once and done thing which is great. Please no more vet visits this year.

Your post reminds me of the saying “when going through hell, keep going!” I applaud your choices to do both cats at once and leave the hearing aids at home. Also ask the vet for some of the good drugs for yourself 😁. I wish you strength, Kate 🩷

I have some good drugs for me so I should be ok. Maybe I’ll sing Carmen with Sasha!

I hope it goes well for your kitties for their dentals Kate. Yes, it seems like a bad idea now, but one trip, two cats, is better for your nerves in the end – only one event to angst over. I have never heard the yowl of a cat singing “the song of its people” – perhaps you could record it for us “non-cat ladies” sometime? Yes, leave your hearing aids at home that day is a good idea. 🙂

It’s impossible to think when they are screaming. Very loud!

Good luck catching them. I will be praying all goes well. I know how nerve racking it is when a kitty has to be under. And the Tooth Fairy will visit if they lose any teeth.

The plan is to lure them into the cat room (small bedroom) the night before with some food and keeping them there. The carriers will be in the room and there is no bed to hide under so I’m hopeful. Sasha’s teeth aren’t bad but they are also taking out a lump on her neck. Gus may have some extractions. The side teeth are getting absorbed and I think that’s a bad thing.

Good luck with the vets. I can relate to the anxiety and the under the bed thing as soon as you want to leave for the vets. I hope the weekend is relaxing.

It’s hard to relax with it looming but I’ll try!

My nephew Mathew’s cat HATED the vets, she would totally freak out and not get in the carrier, I had to carry her in. She would not let anyone else. Not even Mat. I think she bit him once. 😮

Good grief! I’m surprised she didn’t try to jump out of your arms. Before carriers, I always had a collar and leash on my cat for trips to the vet. Never used either any other time but I worried she’d freak out and run away.

Yes, as the guilt begins to mound and I turn to blubber. Seriously though, neither one has severe teeth issues. It should be no big deal. Should be….

In your next life, you should marry a vet so that taking the cats “to the vet” means crossing the living room to visit your husband’s home office.

Or . . . in your next life, BE a vet. Or a goldfish owner. 😀

Note to self…do not put in hearing aids. I just love that.
Any pet owner suffers anxiety taking their 4-legged beloveds to the vet. And please remember your last visit with the late, great Gracie.
It’s a pity you can’t pop a Xanax if you’re behind the wheel. You could…but…then you might need dental work.
Too bad Morgan doesn’t drive. 🙂

I wonder if they remember that she left in the carrier and never came back. I will be popping a mocha latte on the way home!

You’d have earned it. One thing I know about cats is, they detach. I think Nature was kind to them in that way.
Hope they got toothbrushes when they left. My dentist always gives me one 🙂

Funny story — When I took Morgan for a dental they gave me a toothbrush and chicken flavored toothpaste. Obviously they don’t know my cats because not one of them would let me get a toothbrush in their mouth. I think you have to start that kind of thing when they are young.

Morgan as an only cat. I wonder how she’ll behave, happy for the alone time or nervous about what’s up?

She’ll sleep through it and not realize what’s going on. She will smell them thoroughly when they come back and ask why I didn’t leave Gus there.

Fingers crossed for an easy vet visit. Maybe you’ve been so anxious since the election that they won’t pick up on a little more anxiety?

Hoping that’s true. As a rule, I don’t trust presidents that don’t have a pet.

all the good luck… we send lots of good vibes…we bring all two but only one goes in… the bill is always ferrari size… with two it becomes lear jet dimensions LOL

This is going to be lear jet size although less than Gus’s operation at the beginning of the year. He’s my million dollar cat! They should give discounts for multiples!

I think you might need some meds as well!!! Getting two in one day may be a challenge, but hopefully they will not be too difficult to crate and it will all be over and done, and you can move on to Thanksgiving!

I wish you a LOT of luck! On the one hand getting two of the gang taken care of with dentals is GOOD….on the other hand – that’s two of them who will hate you for a day or so afterward. LOL I really do think they pick up on OUR anxiety about things though – wide eyes, avoiding coming close enough to be picked up, etc. BUT you will get through it and so will they!!
Hugs, Pam

Sasha I can fool a little. Gus is the wily one. He can sense anything. He transfers that knowledge to Sasha so she can hide under the bed. Gotta love cats.
