Snow? Seriously? – After a mostly snowless winter (does a dusting count?) we are predicted to get 3 inches this week. Here’s my thought – if I can’t have snow for Christmas, I don’t want it in March! Do ya hear me Mother Nature?
Kids today – My morning trip to Starbucks has two new regulars. Two pre-teens (or maybe early teenagers, hard to tell) stop in every morning. They are driven by their parent in a huge SUV to pick up a drink on their way to school. Obviously, they come from an affluent family. (Can’t imagine my mom taking me for a Starbucks. Wait! I can’t imagine her driving me to school when there was a school bus!) They wear the typical beat-up jeans with strategic holes (for which they paid a fortune) topped by nice sweaters or sweatshirts and stylish jackets. Nothing looks like you would clean out the garage. (Sadly so many people dress like they are going to clean out something nasty.) Their hair is long, parted in the middle and pulled back. (That seems to be the style even though most people look better with a side part.) I’m enjoying this daily fashion show. They are much better dressed than most of the working folks who wear tight short ankle pants with the wrong shoes. Call me old fashioned but people should wear what compliments their body type rather than what’s in style. Personally, I’m at the sneakers everyday stage of my life and loving it!
Well, that’s weird – Starting several weeks ago, a woman stops at a stop sign in a busy intersection to put on her make-up. This happens on my morning run to Starbucks. She doesn’t pull over. She puts on her flashing lights to signal cars to go around her. Why she doesn’t pull to the curb is a mystery. Does she live in a cult that prohibits makeup? People be weird!
A soft touch – A local rescue advertised an older cat (12 years old) whose owner died. This cat is not liking the hectic environment of a rescue. She’s looking for a home with laid back cats (check) and non-hyper peeps (check). I’m keeping my eye on her. Technically I don’t have a vacancy but my heart hurts for her.
Another clothes haul – This week I scheduled a pick-up for clothes. Each time I get more brutal. Even though I retired over ten years ago, I have five work blazer-jackets. Each donation cycle, I include one more. I love each one of them but my current life does not include much dress up and when I do, I like something “fresh.” I figure by the time I die, I will be out of work clothes to donate!
So how was your week?
I couldn’t see my parents dropping me off at Starbucks either. When Starbucks opened in our office building, I still had a cup of coffee at home every morning with breakfast. I got Starbucks plain coffee every day and my mom would say “you have more money than brains – you have coffee at home and at the office.” I don’t get that style of the holey jeans … that must mean I am advancing in age. I used my allowance to bring home a few (now) questionable items back in the day, including a wooden purse (that looked and opened like a miniature treasure chest), a midi dress and Grecian style white sandals that laced to the knee. I wanted to wear all three of these items when we were going to dinner with friends of the family who were in town for a few days. My mother said “no” – wear proper clothes or you’ll stay home. I changed into proper clothes. Looking back, that get-up was rather clownish, but I thought I looked great! I’m headed out once I get to March 1st in Reader … I still have snow to shovel from yesterday (it was way too heavy as it was full of ice) and go for a walk. We have another bout of icy precip and maybe snow in the wee hours tomorrow. Ugh with a capital U.

Sorry about your snow. 😦 That outfit was trendy at the time!

Left late to walk today so I could come home and shovel the driveway near the house at the peak of the warmth … it got to 49 today. It was still icy because that area is in the shade. I didn’t fret too much or put out the Prestone Heat because we’re getting more icy precip tonight. It was the trend, as was fishnet stockings and potholder vests and many more crazy things back then.

That is just bizarre. If you put makeup on here while stopped at an intersection, you would be charged with distracted driving! I admire your ability to get rid of your work clothes.

I finally figured it out. She drops off a child at the corner to pick up the school buss. After the bus leaves she puts on her makeup still parked in the traffic lane at the stop sign. Don’t know why she doesn’t pull over.

I don’t think I’d want to put my makeup on in the car – too much light just magnifies wrinkles. A dark bathroom is better – ignorance is bliss!

🙂 I so rarely put it on anymore. Certainly not in a car!

The woman putting on makeup in an intersection is bizarre! It makes absolutely no sense to me! 🤷♀️ And I have two granddaughters who don’t go to Starbucks daily, but probably twice a week? I keep my opinion to myself, but it does feel a little indulgent. When they go to college I don’t think they’re going to be able to feed this habit. 🙂
I am going to be thinking of this kitty….and you!

When I worked I did go to a coffee shop in the morning. The coffee was 50 cents and I’d meet up with friends before work. I took a bus to school and it didn’t stop at any coffee shop! 🙂

I don’t get the makeup lady putting it on in her car at intersections. Maybe she doesn’t have a good mirror at home and likes the lighted one in her car? Still, that is peculiar.

She could pull to the curb. Just a thought.

With both of us working from home, neither of us have nice dress-up clothes anymore. Now I have an upcoming wedding and upcoming funeral. No nice clothes, and I’m not a shopper. Tried ordering online, and of course, they don’t fit. 😝
We’ve been getting a little snow here and there. An inch here and there, and it melts right away. Right now it’s raining. Had loud thunderstorms overnight. Weird.

We are predicted to get a storm starting any minute but exactly what it will be isn’t clear. Not supposed to be a bad one. Depends on where the rain line is. I no longer enjoy shopping when I HAVE to do it. I have to be in the mood which is rare these days.

Totally agree on the snow! It had its chance all winter! Bring on Spring!
Haha on the Starbucks and the kids. Agree, my kids never got taken to Starbucks before school. Their big yellow schoolbus didn’t stop there. 😉
Wow on that lady , yes what is she thinking???
Awww on the cat, hope he finds a forever home. Will be waiting to see a picture of the new addition to your loving home. 😉

Growing up today is different in many ways. Some are good and some not so good. I wouldn’t have been able to afford SB back then. Oh yes, I didn’t drink coffee either.

Yes, I didn’t either at that age! LOL!

Awe … my heart hurts for that kitty too. Hopefully, another open heart with a vacancy will step forward.
I have never been happier that my kids are grown.
Mother Nature has lost her mind. We had snow here on Saturday, just a dusting, but it was still snowing. Meanwhile, there is a dandelion in my yard.

My dad would have had a heart attack at the thought of paying Starbucks’ prices for a coffee. And would have laughed his butt off if I had asked him to take me to one on the way to school. We were extremely poor. Sadly, the spoiled youth of today will be running the world one day. This might explain current events, actually. God bless you for keeping your heart open for another little bundle of joy!

It’s weird how many women I see at stoplights putting on makeup…..honestly – it is just strange! Invariably they hold things up when the light turns green because they just can’t put that eyebrow pencil down without finishing the job! Kids and coffee don’t mix well – they are hyper enough without a shot of Starbucks. Crazy. I am about to undertake a major overhaul (clean out) of my closet. So many things I look at hanging in there and I KNOW I will never wear them again but at the time I got them I just “had” to have them. Now they look silly hanging there and they could look great on someone YOUNGER (which seems to be just about everybody else!).
Hugs, Pam

The makeup lady must have someone who hogs her bathroom at home. But still, why doesn’t she pull over to put on her makeup. Maybe she likes making people go around her. Does that make her feel powerful?
And the teenage girls with their center parts and the holes in their jeans and their coffee. So interesting. Makes me think I ought to stop making my own coffee and start buying it at Starbucks so I can people watch.

People watching there is the best. Worth the price of the drink. There are a thousand stories there. You would be amazed (or maybe you wouldn’t) at how many people get the colorful sugary drinks topped with whipped cream for breakfast. Adults too!

There is always room for one more. I hope you adopt her. I feel bad for cats like that too which is how I ended up with so many. 🙂 That is odd about the lady putting on makeup.

We live close to both a high school and a Starbucks. I am always surprised to see so many of the students walking to school with a coffee cup in hand. When I was their age (oops, I just heard those words said in an old lady voice), I wasn’t allowed to drink coffee. It was a grown-up drink as far as my parents were concerned.
I’ll be interested to see if you add another cat to your collection 🙂

I didn’t drink coffee until I was working. I also couldn’t afford such an expensive drink while I was in school.

What people do in their cars never ceases to amaze me. It’s like once they close the door, they think they are in a private room. It’s crazy, but I’ve never seen one stop in the road with hazard lights. That’s definitely new. 🙂 I started a donation back this morning with a baking pan that I realized I hadn’t used in a dozen years. Now, I’ll add some clothes. 🙂

I read somewhere recently that one age group (can’t keep with the gen x and z) favored middle hair parts. Sounds like the 60s to me. Who has time to drive kids to Starbucks before school?
If you can’t take in cat #5, I hope you can help find it a home.
Good for you for getting rid of another blazer. They are rather like security blankets, aren’t they? Have a good week!

I hear you! We really haven’t had much snow this winter. My brother is getting ice these days. I swore when I was tired of heat that I wouldn’t complain about winter but I have turned into an old lady who constantly complains about how cold I am. I wear a blanket around the house. It’s nearly time to start complaining about the heat and I can hardly wait.
I should introduce you to my friend Cindy. She what was a work cat but she sold the business and she doesn’t feel confident anyone will take care of the cat. Izzy won’t fit into her house nor her s.o.’s house and the guy that she likes the best doesn’t like her. She needs a home and someone to love her. Not me.

Ugh…don’t get me started on clothing in department stores. It’s no wonder they’re closing. I’m with you on wearing what compliments your body type. It seems these days anything goes!

I know you aren’t asking us what to do about the twelve year old cat… I know you will be considering all the pros and cons as you keep your eye on her. She has to land some place and I hope if you feel like it’s a fit she lands with you. A Sassy Cat for the rest of her life.
I haven’t bought any new clothes, with the exception of three tops from J. Jill, since we bought this house which was August of 2020. I miss the joy of shopping for clothes in a real store. I need something fresh!

I dropped a size or two over the past 3 years so this past summer I bought pants that didn’t look like clown pants. I don’t buy pants often because I stick to basics. I splurge on colorful tops mostly for the summer as tees show wear faster.

Yup, the makeup applier does in fact belong to a cult. The cult of “ME, ME, ME-I’m the only person who counts and the rules don’t apply to me.” Regrettably, that cohort is growing in size with each passing day. As for the coffee drinking teens, I simply cannot fathom drinking a cuppa is a good recipe for enhancing brain function at that young age. Then again I’m old and obviously cranky about how young people dress/behave/etc. I think my parents would have smacked me for even asking for a designer coffee before heading to school under my own foot power. {eye roll} See…told you…o-l-d!

I’m not exactly sure they get coffee. SB has a lot of “designer” sugary drinks too. They are coming in when I’m leaving so I don’t see what they get. There are a lot of times I think someone needs a good dose of my mom to set them straight!

A ‘good dose of mom’ would be welcome and likely resolve a whole lotta of society’s problems! Sugar is the absolute worst thing for still forming brains. I’m stunned to see how much of it is in everyday, normal food.

Every once in a while I cut back on sugar. Then it sneaks back in. I don’t like sweet sugary stuff and I’m not a candy/desert person but you don’t have to be. It’s everywehre.

I always enjoy seeing what the kids are the middle school are wearing, too. It’s now high end cargo pants with a high waist and crop top (with hoodie over it, of course). I saw one Asian high schooler with shorter, asymmetrical hair and a side part and she looked so much more put together and stylish than her compatriots with the long hair and middle part.

Except for their hair, these two were trend setters for sure. I haven’t seen cargo pants back with kids but I’ll have to look for it.

I agree with Deb about the lighting at the stop sign being why this person chooses that site for the application of makeup. Nonetheless, a courteous person would at least try to pull over as far as possible from being in the lane of traffic. (I do understand wanting to put on makeup in natural light as opposed to interior lighting.)
I know it won’t do any good to chastise you about adding another cat to your home, It sounds like an okay fit, but remember that you’re getting new furniture and this cat has not been trained – and is probably too old to train – on what’s appropriate and what’s not appropriate behavior in your home!

I can’t figure out why she wouldn’t put the makeup on in her own driveway if she was looking for natural light. A mystery for sure. I doubt I will add any more cats but I don’t worry too much if I would. I added Gus who was 3 and there were no issues. The house is big enough with 3 floors to allow her to find private space.
