A day late and a little short! – It was a jumbled (but ok) upside down week. By the time Friday was over I was rejoicing in an easy weekend but that was not to be. I did something to my back and that touched off a round of pain. My productive plans went by the wayside. Fortunately, I am back today without too many twinges. Taking a page from my cat Gracie who recently had a dental, I will milk this thing as best I can!
Really weird commercials – My radio station must have gotten a new marketing manager. Commercials are different. They had a lot of political ads during the election which they never did before. This past week the new one was for a men’s shaver specifically for the private area. I didn’t know that was a thing. Learn something new every day.
Why did I do that? – I had an 8:10 a.m. appointment with my dermatologist for a routine yearly skin check. When I worked, I always tried to get the earliest appointment so I could get in and get to work. Now that I’m retired, I prefer mid to late morning appointments. No rushing but my afternoon is free. I thought about rescheduling but never got around to it. Today at 7 a.m. the doc’s office called to say she was sick and they needed to reschedule. Sometimes things work out in the end. Next appointment won’t be at 8:10!
So how was your week?
Glad your back is somewhat better and that crazy early appointment got postponed! I know ads pay for all of our free entertainment, but boy, they are definitely a trial most of the time.

We have been streaming NCIS (the old ones). I keep grabbing the remote to run through the ads but there are none. I could get used to this. Bliss.

Yes, no commercials is just magical. Enjoy!

Glad your back is better. I ‘try’ not to make an appointment before 9, and commercials are really dangerous to listen to. 🙂

My husband was complaining as we heard the same drug commercial over and over. I told him it was far better than political ads. Many times I have no idea what the ad is for (especially true for drug ads).

Glad to know you took Gracie’s advice to milk that injury. Gracie is a genius! Hope this week is a good one.

It’s busy with stuff I want to do but not busy with commitments. I like this kind of week. If I don’t finish stuff no one will notice.

That was late notice from the Dr.’s office. If we don’t give 24 hrs notice they can charge yet not vice versa.

I know! More of the story was that I wished I could cancel because of my back (sitting with a paper sheet in a cold examining room did not seem good for my back but I didn’t have 24 hours. It was a blessing in disguise. I’ll reschedule at the end of January.

It’s a new world that we are all adjusting to. Doctor appointments after 10.00am are a requirement! Along with grocery shopping mid week…. And a gentle movement routine to keep your joints, strength and balance engaged! Just saying 🥰

There is a sweet spot appointment time that is not too early (no time for a relaxed morning and rush hour) and not too late (backed up appointments and rush hour). The only thing I can say about that radio commercial is that I’m glad it wasn’t a TV commercial.
I hope your back is back to 100%!

I’ve also noticed radio commercials with similar copy and one is so intimate in nature that I think if I had small children I’d be concerned. I don’t know when this became a thing, but I find them cringey, and so likely wouldn’t be at all interested in the product.
Sorry about your back, Kate, and hope you’re no l longer in pain. But I agree–it milk it for all it’s worth 🙂

I stay busy all the time, whether things are on the calendar or not. Theoretically I was completely free today. I’m eating lunch at 4:48 pm. I didn’t intend to dump the ice out of the birdbath, but seeing a chickadee suck water at the edge of the ice made me move.

Things just pop up like that! My day today ended up like that too. Nothing but a quick trip to the grocery store and I didn’t get much done in the way of real projects but I was busy all day.

I don’t like rushing for an early appointment either. Mid morning is good. Glad your back is better.

You are just like me about appointments. I had one at 8 or so this week, and it was way too early. I was completely “off” because of it. I thought of mentioning it, but I would be mentioning it to people who are at work by 8 every day hahahaha.

I’ve decided to leave those early time slots for people who need to get to a job. My NY resolution is no appointment earlier than 10!

Ouchie backs are the worse. Hope yours is better. (We have an assortment of heating pad sizes – but end up using the old one even small as it heats up faster and better…they did some regulation that made all the new ones not so wonderful?
Early appts meant getting in and out fast with little backup, but now it all depends on which doctor – and which location. We are now taking staff for treatments at the office about 15 min from the house rather than at the giant med center an hour+away. Thankful docs do satellite offices once a week…but even so, the 8:00 am appts are getting les and less attractive.
Go ahead and milk the recovery time!

Procedures are the worst (for more reasons than one). Almost all of the ones I’ve had required me to be at the hospital (or standalone surgical center) at 6 a.m. On the one hand, I wasn’t waiting all day. On the other, yikes! My last colonoscopy was scheduled for 11 a.m. That wasn’t a good idea either but then colonoscopies are never a fun time.

I am not a morning person! I am and always have been a night owl. It was awful when I worked and had to be at work early mornings. Retirement allows me to stay up late and get up late. I make appointments late morning or early afternoon. One of the benefits of retirement is I am the boss!

Isn’t that the best? I love my slow get up. I usually do my blogs stuff before a shower. So much more humane than jumping in the shower at 6:30 which I have had to do twice in December. Still grumping about it.

Missed your Random 5 (aka 3) post yesterday so glad to see it today, but sorry about your back. I sympathise. Hope you can have a sensible appointment time now.

Since it’s not a critical appointment, I will push it out until I can get the time I want! I usually write the Random 5 on Saturday but I was in real pain and couldn’t sit at my computer. I couldn’t “sit” anywhere. I had to either walk or sit in a recliner at an angle.

I am constantly behind on reading blogs, and so your Sunday random post is always my anchor to know where I left off from before. Imagine how confused I was yesterday — “Where’s Kate?!” I still haven’t broken the habit of making early morning doctor appointments, and then on that day I am cursing myself for doing just that. I hope your back mends quickly! – Marty

Very nice that you received the call to reschedule. I don’t like early morning appointments and shoot for midmorning appointments but it doesn’t happen all the time. Back pain is the worst. I am glad you are feeling better today. I always keep the ThermaCare back and hip heat wraps on hand.

I used Salonpas pads and they didn’t work for this pain. The heating pad did help though. Today it’s pretty good.

With rush hour lasting far too much of the day now here (it’s certainly far worse between 8-10 and then again 2-6) I’d rather shove a red hot poker in my eye than do an early appointment. Glad at least, they got in touch with you before you got there. It would have been insult to injury had you arrived only to find out it needed to be rescheduled. Here’s to an easy week with minimal pain.

They called at 7 and told me to call them back. When I did I got the “office is closed” message but that’s ok. I got the info I needed and can easily reschedule anytime (but certainly NOT for 8 a.m.).

I forgot how much pain hurts. (That sentence made me blink too!) I didn’t sleep Saturday night because I couldn’t find a position that didn’t hurt. I ended up in a recliner for most of the night.

Knowing that, in medical offices, practitioners end almost every day behind schedule, I have always scheduled appointments for early morning so there was less chance that I’d have a longer wait until seen. Now, with the lateness of sunrise, I schedule them a little later, but still like to get out, get done, do any errands I have while out, and get the heck back home again!
And no, I didn’t know anyone made a man’s razor for those sensitive areas. Heck, I think they should suffer the pain of waxing like women do who want those areas to be smooth and hair-free!

I had an ENT in Wyoming who had a sign in his waiting room stating that the doctor was running a little behind. Sleeping bags and other provisions are available at the front desk. I think it might have been true, too.
Take care of your back. I’m hearing a lot of people who say that they’ve managed to pull or tweak something in their back while doing nothing that should have been risky. Backs are tricky things.
I listened to a podcast recently where two men were talking about your manscaping issues, among other things, and one asserted that it was only polite to trim the area up. I know some men shave the area but it’s only polite to do so??

The man thing is all news to me. Backs are tricky. I can’t tell you what I did to it (and it’s not talking either). It’s either from perching on the edge of sofa for 2 hours or replacing carpet runners in the hallway. Neither should have caused it.

Sorry about your back! I like the early appointments because usually the doctor is on time. The later the appointment, the more they tend to run behind.

That was especially true of my dermatology group. An afternoon appointment could easily have a 40 minute wait but a few years back they revamped some things. It used to be hard to get through by phone too. Now I haven’t waited more than 5 minutes and that includes in the examining room. I believe they lost patients because of it. Way back my cancer surgeon easily ran an hour late. I was working then. Before I left the office I’d always call to see how late he was running. He was the best in the area and very compassionate so when he was with you, you knew it was all about you. Sadly he retired. There are not many like him. I changed gyn-ob docs more than once because they were habitually late. I once waited an hour in the office. He was on-call to deliver and left for the hospital without ever examining me. I was more than annoyed. Don’t have an on-call doc do appointments!

Oh, my OB-Gyn was always so late that I switched to one that didn’t handle the pregnant women a few years after I had my kid. So much better.

Sounds perfect. I would have loved one that specialized in the gyn rather than the ob part. Eventually one that specialized in pre-post menopause and all the stupid weird things that happen then. No one doc can stay on top of all the new ideas.

I used to get the earliest too. Now I like to enjoy my coffee leisurely. Ten a.m. is my favorite apt time now. It’s still early enough so it doesn’t break up my day.

The only doctor’s visits I make for first thing in the morning are those for fasting blood draws. Otherwise they can see me later in the day, thank you very much! I do still have a few morning cat clients who need meds am (early) and pm, but not too many. I like my mornings more leisurely now.

Me too. I can’t believe the things I’d go through when I worked. A 7 a.m. apt (yes my derm opened that early) meant a 6 a.m. shower and all that rushing around. Not much for rushing around these days.

I’m with you. I can barely manage a shower and breakfast before a 9:00 appt if needed, when I used to be up, showered, and out by 7:30 all the time.
