Money, money, money – I rarely use real money to pay for things unless it’s less than $5. (Seriously, how much stuff is under $5 these days?) This past week I paid for something and I needed coins. I spent some time looking at a nickel because I didn’t remember it looking like that. It looked flimsy. Almost like a token from a game. I wondered if it was counterfeit. I gave it to the cashier and all was good. #howsoonweforget
Flu shots – We decided to get a flu shot this week. Since we are over 65 we need the high potency one. Our regular pharmacy didn’t have it. Neither did our backup pharmacy. We found it at our third choice. It’s like the Shingles vaccine. My doc wants me to get it but I’ve been on a waiting list for almost a year. #stockupthejuice!
The pink purse – I’m not a purse person. I buy one and use it until it falls apart. I switch seasonally. I have a winter one and a summer one. I’m fussy about them too. Too many compartments and I can’t find anything. Too few and everything is at the bottom of the bag. This past spring I came across the perfect bag and it’s the new blush pink color. I absolutely love it. Now it’s time to switch to the winter one. I will miss it. Loved the color and loved the compartments. #backtoblack #preppingforwinter

There is something weird about the coloring here. The shoes are red not hot pink and there is no blue/green on the edges!
Speaking of winter change outs — This week I should switch shoes. There is no point in keeping out any sandals. It’s way to cold for that. I’ll pack them away and bring out the sensible (boring) winter ones. I bought a pair of new red sneakers to perk up my winter shoe wardrobe! #gottalovecolor
Ads, ads, ads – A local store sent me a 20% off coupon. I used it this past week but forgot to include something. Today is the last day for it so I tried to order the missed item and received a message that I used my code. They are one use only. I get that but what I don’t get is why I get three emails every day telling me to buy at their 20% off sale. There must be logarithms that eliminate people who have used it from getting spammed with email reminders. #boogers #butIwantedtospendmoney
So how was your week?
My husband and I both got the new, two-part shingles shot. OMGosh, the second round wasn’t so bad, but the first round knocked us off our feet! Don’t plan on doing anything that evening or the next day!

We’ve had the same argument with my wife about flu shots for the last three years. She prefers the local supermarket here (Publix) because they give a $10 store coupon if you get a flu shot from them. I refuse to do it because the wait is horrendous. I go instead to my doctor’s office, where no appointment is needed for flu shots; you’re in and out in probably ten minutes. Of course, I end up going with my wife while she gets hers, so I guess you could say I’m indirectly affected by how long the supermarket takes anyway. In the end, she wins. – Marty

The coupon is a draw but at the end of the day it wasn’t important enough for us to wait until they got a supply in.

Maybe you can find your same new purse as the pink one but in black? Hand off the old black one to charity or similar!

I’m not a purse person either. I can’t figure out why people want expensive handbags. It seems such a utilitarian object. But, like you, I’m particular. I like just the right number of pockets. It has to fit over my shoulder, and I don’t want it to be too heavy. I want built-in places for cash and credit cards so I won’t have to use a wallet. I don’t have the perfect winter purse. I may have to go shopping. I do have a dark pink purse, but it’s small, for days when I don’t need to carry much.
I do use cash for small vendors who probably don’t want to pay the service charge. I don’t like coins. They make my purse too heavy.

We could be related. One of my friends is a purse person and has the most beautiful ones. However, for me it’s not a fashion accessory. You put it down somewhere when you get to you destination and no one sees it.

I can wear summer shoes most of the year, but to be honest, that gets a little boring! And I do have a very fun assortment of purses, thanks to my mother. My mom has a real fondness for very nice purses. And at almost 88 she still buys them and hardly uses them. It’s quite hilarious. But I take all of her “giveaways,” and I can even supply some of my friends. I wish she and I wore the same shoe size! She wears really cute shoes. 🙂

My mother and I were completely different sizes in everything. There was never any sharing. Also her taste was different. There was no way I wanted any of her purses. She was very hip, just not my taste hip. You are lucky to get beautiful castoffs.

I like pink accessories :)! My purse. My iPhone case. My pen. My medical chart says I am allergic to the flu shot. That is because I had what resembled an actual case of the flu from the shot itself. The gardener didn’t get it, neither did anybody else around me. And I hadn’t really been around anybody. My doctor was sure the shot caused what I had. And I was quite sick, but only for 24 hours. Yes, I am weird. But I worry that as I get older not getting the shot will be a bad thing.

I like pink too. When “they” come out with a new shade, I’m all over it! Sorry about the shot. That stinks!

Strange that you mention the nickel. My husband and I were looking at a few of them from my change purse the other day, and each one was different. They aren’t uniform anymore. I’m pretty sure quarters aren’t uniform either.
I got a shingles vaccine about 2 years ago. Now someone told me that the one I got isn’t that affective, and there is a new one that’s better. I don’t know if that person who told me is very knowledgeable or not. 🤷♀️
I totally related to your purse situation. I’m the exact same way.
You know how that photo didn’t show the true color of your shoes? That bugs me. As you may have figured out by reading my blog, I love photography and take pictures all the time. I always have, ever since the long ago era of film. 😜 It bugs the heck out of me that these digital cameras never capture the true color of what I’m seeing with my eyes. Whether it be a phone camera or my good Canon, I noticed that vibrant colors are rarely shown as their true hue. It really frustrates me. Between cell phones having horrible reception, and cameras taking dull-colored photos, I’m starting to wonder about this technology thing. Land lines and film worked so much sharper.

There are two versions of the Shingles vaccine. The newer one is a 2 shot series and in our area, hard to find. My picture flummoxed me. It looked ok on my cell (I rarely use my cell but I did for this one) but when I posted it, odd colors came up. Maybe the lighting?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Okay, so then the person who told me about the newer vaccine was right. I wasn’t sure. The one I got 2 years ago was just one shot. It hurt and left a bruise.
Some of the problem with the picture of your shoes might’ve been lighting, but like I said, digital cameras, (phones, regular cameras) tend to struggle with vibrant colors. I have a friend who is a photographer, and even he tells me that he has to mess with colors in his photoshop because they don’t come out the right way.

Most injections hurt. That person was right. The new one is better. I haven’t figured out how to completely fix the colors in Photoshop. I was going to take another picture outdoors but I ran out of time. I don’t know if that would have helped.

We got our flu shots last Friday. I had no idea the Senior flu shot was in short supply. It has been so long since I handled change I didn’t know the nickel had changed. I never have money. I use my credit card for everything. SSNS carries no paper money but he has a stash of change in the car. I have one small leather across the body bag. I hardly ever take it with me. I use a small zipper wallet that slips in my pocket. Love your sneaks!

I laughed that you looked and looked at your nickel because you were unfamiliar with it. I had that problem with buying apple cider. We had lived in England for two years, and I was used to pints of things. A pint in England has 20 ounces, not 16. Back in the US, I was at the apple orchard and saw prices for half gallons and gallons. Only one size was there on the counter. Was it the half or whole? Did I have enough money with me to buy the more expensive one?
We must have been lucky to get our high-powered flu shots last week. We are using the pharmacy in our favorite supermarket, and they seem to have everything we need.
I have two purses, and I changed from the flowered one to the black one this morning. I get a new one at least every ten years. I’m often in style — retro style.
I love your pond photo. The pond was beautiful when we saw it, and it has a different glory now.

I have a few more (but not many) than two purses but I only change twice a year. I have one that I bought and loved but it didn’t work for me (which is why I love this new pink one so much!). My purse style is also retro. My black one is maybe 5 years old.

I tried to get a flu shot yesterday but I have to wait until November 4th, as they are currently only giving them to 65+ people. I never thought I’d still come across situations where I am not old enough 🙂
Because of neck and shoulder pain, I have to look for purses that won’t exacerbate this issue. I have a Sash bag that is lovely; also a little leather backpack-type purse. I am a bit of a snob when it comes to purses – I really want to love faux leather because some of those bags are so cute, but I always end up with another leather one – I am hard on bags and leather wears better, I find.
Love your shoes, Kate!

I gave up leather a long time ago. I used to love Stone Mountain purses when I was younger but they are too heavy. I switched to a nylon fabric that is lightweight and I like it but this new pink one is spiffy! You can’t tell it’s not leather except by the weight.

I too change purses with the seasons and I’m very particular in what I buy. Compartments, straps and the way it opens are my sticklers. I like lots of compartments, one strong but not wide adjustable strap, and a purse that’s not heavy when it’s empty.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I also take my purses to a shoemaker to have the strap permanently adjusted to the length I like. No buckles or heavy hardware. The opening is important to me too. I prefer zippers for the important sections as I don’t want anything falling out. A slide in is ok for coupons.

And I don’t like fussing with flaps over main openings. I like straps to go short for everyday but go long for over head cross over for long excursions.

I don’t like a lot of heavy hardware either. No fancy thick buckles or metal loops. I usually get my strap permanently sewn to one length by a cobbler to eliminate the adjustable hardware. I looked at a purse that had short handles and a long strap. The long one was removable but the short ones weren’t. I wouldn’t use hand straps so it would be extra weight for me to carry around.

Your leaves look gorgeous, Kate! We’re still waiting for some color. It’s going to be 81 degrees today, so that won’t help. You should check Walmart for the shingles vaccine. I got mine there last year with no wait, as did my parents. I was thrilled when Shingrix came out. Doing the Remicade treatments, I wasn’t allow to get the old vaccine since it’s live. I have several friends who’ve had terrible experiences with shingles. I’m not a shopper but I love purses! I change constantly. I’m not a fan of the black hole pit purses…give me compartments and I know where everything is. 🙂

Cute shoes. I have narrow feet and I know you do too, so what brand are they [if you don’t mind me asking]? I’m waiting for the shingles vaccine, too. It’s about as rare as hen’s teeth, which makes me wonder if the drug companies make more money off the meds you are given once you get shingles, than off the vaccine itself that stops shingle. Cynical? Who me?

I used to love purse,s but when the bus company revamped its fleet and we got smaller buses going downtown to Detroit, the seat next to me was no longer empty and it creased my clothes too much to have both a tote bag and a purse sitting on my lap – that was the beginning of my downfall with using purses. I just put purse stuff into the tote bag and now I only use a fanny pack and in the Winter I use a polar fleece vest with zippered pockets for necessities . Funny you mention the purses as the only time I use a purse now is when I go the eye doc to carry my other pair of glasses and when I go get highlights to put my glasses in while she is doing my hair. So yesterday I was driving to my hair appointment and was halfway there and remembered my purse, with the glass case and $ was still at home. Sigh. Had to go back and retrieve the purse – much grumbling. The only thing I use money for is the drycleaners or getting gas. I don’t drive that much and we have lots of scamming devices at the pumps so I wouldn’t use a credit card. I remember a nickel having a hexagon shape years and years ago – was this in Canada perhaps but that coin was heavy as well. Your garden and pond look beautiful with the Fall colors … our Fall colors may have gone bye-bye in this 35 mph wind that is gusting now and this torrential rain that has been falling … I’m hoping to get in a walk later when the rain stops and the wind dies down.

We are having pouring rain right now too. I almost always use a purse as I need to carry too much stuff but I can see how you downsized. When I first started working, during the winter I had to park a good distance from my office in a downtown city and walk. I always carried a shoe bag with my office shoes and wore either boots or other walking shoes. The shoe bag had a pouch where I could stash my lunch so I didn’t have to carry 3 bags. Nowadays I’d just carry a backpack.

You must be getting what we had up to early afternoon today. It was ugly indeed. When my boss and I moved to a small office out of downtown Detroit, if I didn’t drive, I had to take two buses each way. I started using a backpack as I would walk the one mile from the office to downtown – the buses did not run regularly in the afternoon, and rather than stand there forever, I would often just walk. I did not have a walking regimen then. I would carry my shoes, but sometimes just left pumps at work so I did not have to carry them back and forth.

I never walked that far. It was more like 6 to 8 city blocks.
LikeLiked by 1 person
They may be long walks though. I would not walk there now – too many issues and it was not all that safe then, and my boss often dropped me off at the bus stop if he was leaving for a meeting. He got cab vouchers for me for bad weather but the cabs would not show up for a short fare, so I just walked.

I should take a picture of the purse. Even I (who is not a purse fanatic) am in love with it. Part of it is the color. I like very light weight purses so I usually go for a nylon fabric. This is a fake leather look but incredibly light and it didn’t get dirty looking. It’s a Giani Bernini. I find that I like those best.

I don’t like change anyway – I save it up, give it to my husband who has one of those change machines that packages it up in paper rolls and he takes it to the bank. Thanks Honey! It just weighs down my purse. Speaking of which I just changed to my “winter purse” too. I downsized and got a rather small new purse at a leather outlet when we were in Maine – I hope my “necessaries” fit in there! Red sneakers – Love them.
