For my snowbound and/or icebound friends

snowstorm, old people

More snow and frigid weather coming!

Calvin and Hobbes - winter

In fact the weather is so cold my humor is getting bizarre!

Maxine - cold boobs

Of course no one describes it better than Maxine!

Cartoon credits: The first was on the internet. I can’t read the author’s information on the side but I thank him or her. Bill Watterson created Calvin and Hobbes and Maxine was created by John Wagner for Hallmark’s Shoebox Greetings.

  1. Calvin and Hobbes was one of my favorite comics. It was wonderfully warped. No one can do snowmen like Bill Watterson. I have the last comic – out of the Sunday funnies – framed and on the wall in our computer room. It’s the one where they’re sledding. Calvin tells Hobbes: “It’s a magical world, Hobbes, Ol’ Buddy … let’s go exploring.”

Thanks for sharing, Kate. They bring back wonderful memories connected to my Dad who also loved Calvin and Hobbes.

  2. The East, South and Midwest must be taking all our precipitation. Not enough rain in Seattle, and the Iditarod Race in Alaska was cancelled due to a lack of snow. I wish you warmer weather, but I can’t help appreciating our blue skies. We don’t get enough of them.

  3. We don’t have snow but it is in the low 20’s at night. Not typical SC weather. This is the coldest January on record. The cold is ok if there is no wind but on windy days it’s a beast. Are you getting out for your coffee?

  4. Miss Kate — Always a pleasure to share in your ….obtuse sense of humor. Guess it takes one to no one. For what it’s worth, I think Maxine summed it up pretty well. Thanks for bringing a quiet grin…it helps keep me warm if only on the inside. Nice stuff. Be well. I’m going to go out and find some more fire wood. See you ’round the fire. Dan

  5. I love winter…and I like snow, just not as deep as you’re having. Also love your choice in humor today…Maxine is so sharp! Cheers!

  6. Sorry to hear you’re buried under the blurry white chill of winter again. It can be frustrating (and boring) to be stuck at home inside the four walls when you’d rather be out getting coffee. 🙂

Love the reference to Calvin and Hobbes. My youngest son had a wicked sense of humor, and once he discovered Calvin and Hobbes, he was hooked. Bill Watterson, may his column rest in peace, gave my son a few too many good ideas for naughty pranks back in the day. We still have several of his comic book anthologies tucked away somewhere. Whenever I see Calvin and Hobbes, it gets me to reminiscing about that young boy with a wicked sense of humor. 🙂

  7. I just gave 2 Calvin and Hobbes comic books to my niece for Christmas ~ what a hoot!

Sorry that you’re “snowed in” again ~ I think you should go outside and build a few Calvin type snowmen to entertain your neighbors. PLUS: It’ll give you a better work out than going to the gym. MINUS: Your boobs will probably start chattering.

I’m not even going to tell you what the weather is like here. OK . . . here’s a hint: 😎

  8. Calvin & Hobbes! My Favorite 🙂

Woke up to an unusual sight this morning – our SE facing room was considerably darker. Yep – there was a snowdrift against it – and this is a 2nd story bedroom!! We had a humm-dinger of a blizzard last night, 45mph winds and snow, snow, snow! A good day to stay inside (again)

  9. Very timely for us. Grandson spent the day with us again as there were school closures all over our area due to the ice on the frontage roads, off ramps and bridges. The teachers took the kids to the school library on Thursday, perhaps in anticipation of no school on Friday. His choice? Calvin and Hobbes. 🙂

    • Wow! Calvin and Hobbes hasn’t been around since the mid-90s. I am impressed that he knew about them. It’s snowing now (9 a.m. EST). Was supposed to start this afternoon but you know how it is.
