The year in review, Kate style!

2013 signAnother year down the tubes. So what happened? I didn’t solve any world problems but I did enjoy my corner of the world.

There was no twerking or need to ‘fess up Rob Ford or Lance Armstrong style. It was pretty simple in my corner.

It was a year of construction projects. The beloved husband and I like to get down and dirty once in a while. We refinished floors and tiled the front porch. We are still married. Amazing!

It was a strange year for Philadelphia sports teams. That translates into a series of emotional ups and downs for the beloved husband. The Eagles (football) got better and the Phillies (baseball) got worse. Let’s call it a draw. The beloved husband considered some serious medications but settled on beer and pretzels.

Dang! I am cute, aren't I?

Somehow, through a very strange set of happenstances (read this post if you missed it), we ended up with another unplanned pet. Turns out this has been the highlight of the year.

The scene of the orgy.

The scene of the orgy.

The other cats entertained us with hairballs and caterwauling at 3 a.m. and some fun-loving moments too. The beloved husband decided he did not like the sounds of mating frogs and a blue heron ate one of my fish. Sigh!

A close relative who was diagnosed with cancer is doing well with treatment and the outcome is looking good. Super yay!

Siblings croppedThere was a beach vacation that included our siblings with lots of giggles, booze and great food. We even sang our little hearts out. We are always thankful for those family times as any year can be the last for any one of us.

There were new toys and bling for both of us. Yay!

But more important are the things that didn’t happen. We didn’t lose any close friends or relatives. There were no cat-astrophes. The cats weren’t ill (mostly) nor did we lose any of them.

I am very grateful for an uneventful year although it does make it tougher to get material for my blog. Thank God for crazy people!

  3. Happy New Year Kate! Sometimes uneventful is the very best thing we can hope for. And for those of us who have fallen in love with her cute-ness in pictorials, Morgan was a boon for all of us. Wishing you and beloved husband more beloved-ness in the year to come!

  4. I love that your husband opted for beer and pretzels…I’m thinking of doing the same. Gearing up for snow and icy temperatures. Sorry about your fish…at least it was fast. Happy New Year Kate to you and those, including the four-legged, whom you love.

  5. I’ll take a peaceful year over a year of drama and heartache anytime. I’m happy to hear your relative is doing well, that’s great news, Kate. Happy New Year to you and your family! Is your husband a Flyer fan as well? There not doing to bad these days. 🙂

  6. Happy New Year, Kate. Often the small things viewed thoughtfully make for interesting reading. And I love your photos. Your cats are gorgeous! What a beautiful fishpond in today’s post!

    • That’s how the fishpond looks in the summer. Alas, today it is bare with a little ice over the top. On a warm day the fish, which are orange goldfish, are closer to the top and active. On a cold day, they lie at the bottom.

    • Yes and there were crazy people in the Starbucks drive through this morning. Can you imagine someone buying a coffee machine in a drive through. Yep someone clogged up the line doing that! I parked and walked in.
