Random 3 for October 11, 2026 – Fall clean up, flowers, drudgery work

It’s a short one today. It wasn’t an interesting week and no amount of snark can make it interesting!

Clean up week – There is a sadness about pulling out all the annual flowers. One day beautiful flowers are bouncing around your yard and the next day they are gone. I always do it before the first frost because the weather gets iffy after that. I don’t like working outside in the cold. I must get used to the bare look. It will be bare until May.

No mum yet – I usually plop a nice chrysanthemum on the front stoop after I pull the flowers. I was scheduled to make a trip to a big garden center, but my body said nope not today. I can pick one up locally but a day trip with a friend is a lot more fun.

This and that – It was a week of visiting retirement communities, reviewing health care plans and other equally uninteresting things. There is a lot of stuff that needs renewal or review this time of year. Truth be told I don’t like spending time on it at any time of the year. This is almost as bad as doing taxes!

Here is your thought for today!

So how was your week?

  1. My geraniums still look okay. I hate to take them out when they still have flowers.I don’t mind watering, but I’m glad to be able to put my hose in the garage until next year.

You’re right. It’s time to get some mums.

  2. I am still feeling “it” from my long day on Thursday and today I put away all the groceries from Thursday – if you don’t already know, every year I load in all my pantry supplies for the entire Winter, also paper products, etc. I have another trip, maybe two to make. But squirreling everything away is not easy and I need a cheat sheet afterward to see where I put them. But all Winter I only need to go out for perishables, so that is nice. In the meantime … it is cluttered (more than ever). I did that for about eight hours as it rained all day and I am already feeling THAT pain.

I like mums and one year I planted them after we saw a great deal at the farm market. I planted a slew of small yellow mums and the next day we had a real gulley-washer and it destroyed them. I had packed down the earth, but that much rain exposed the roots … sigh. A couple survived. I like mums better in a porch pot now.

I like the cat and cinnamon roll funny. I have not had a Cinnabon in years. It was a treat whenever my mom/I went shopping at the mall. The smell was just as good as the cinnamon roll!

  3. Fall is interesting…..pretty leaves, etc. but lots of work in the garden and in the house – changing this and that for the season…..sigh. Anyway as some say “we’re still on the right side of the dirt”. At least for now. LOL Love the poster at the bottom…..cinnamon rolls – yum.

    Hugs, Pam

  4. Yes, for sure make getting your chrysanthemums on a day trip with a friend! We finally got all that tropical storminess that has been around for weeks and the hurricane out of the Gulf so this week will be much better! I did get myself locked out of my blog yesterday. Funky business going on when I want to comment on a blog instead of at the reader. I really prefer visiting the blog. I am not sure getting locked out will not happen again. There is something strange with my URL. Too much tinkering going on with WordPress.

  5. I very much second today’s thought! Yum, yum. I think I’m finished with watering the potted plants. It’s been toasty all week (recording breaking in fact) and I’m tired of schlepping heavy watering cans to keep them around. I’ll bring in the hibiscus and the rosemary plant to overwinter but I’m done with watering. I have to switch to leaf removal for the next six months since it’ll likely take that long for all the cottonwood leaves that multiple like rabbits. Enjoy a peaceful Sunday.
