I remember when I was young and living at home, there was some magic although not quite this much. This post is from 2016. I remember this friend but haven’t seen him in 30 years. I googled and it looks like he’s still alive although I doubt his mother is. Most of my magic today comes from the beloved husband.
Back when I was young (not all that long ago) I had a male friend who lived at home. We were in our mid-30s and at that time it was unusual to live with your parents. Single guys either had their own apartment or had a roommate with bad cleaning habits.
One day a group of friends were together and someone asked if he would ever move out. He said that he didn’t know. Then he explained about the magic.
He said the house where he lived had a magic box. He put dirty clothes in it and found clean clothes in his drawers.
There was a magic box that was cold in the kitchen. It contained all the food he could ever want and cold beer.
There was a magic fairy who showed up when he was at work and cleaned up his room.
He was only missing a magic car fairy.
For all this magic he paid a small monthly stipend which was less than apartment rent, utilities, cleaning ladies and laundry services. Why would he move?
It reminded me of the magic in my life. My husband raised kids by himself and is no stranger to housework. He surprised me with his skills when we married.
We have a magic drawer. There are always stamps in there. I never check if we need any. They are always there.
There is always toilet paper stocked in the various bathrooms. I put it on the dispenser but there is always another roll in the cabinet.
The garbage cans go to the curb on the appropriate nights and return empty the next morning.
I don’t mind painting but I hate to clean out brushes. There is a magic can in the basement sink. You put it in and it ends up clean and hanging on the rack.
Anything that gets cooked on a grill is done by the grill fairy who also cleans up.
Milk, orange juice and beer are automatically stocked. Just like magic. As is his lunchmeat, cheese, peanuts and anything else he likes to eat. (If only he ate fruits and vegetables!)
Many repairs are completed after a comment that something is malfunctioning. Other repairs are fixed when a repairman shows up. My involvement is confined to the announcement.
There is a lot of magic in this house and I’m very grateful.
He doesn’t do everything. Like my friend I haven’t found a car fairy yet and I have to train my cats to clean their own litter box!
In the meantime I am enjoying the magic!
I am that fairy at work! My colleagues open the fridge and say, “There’s no milk”. An hour or two later, they open it again and say, “There’s STILL no milk”. I am one of a select few who actually bother to go and buy the milk.

People are either the doers or the “wait til it’s doners.” It would depend on if I wanted milk. I might even buy those will servings that don’t need refrigeration and keep them in my desk drawer. Yes I can get that petty (or let’s call it annoyed).

Love this! And I love the magic that happens at our house too! The oil in my car is always full, and tires always have enough air in them. Lightbulbs in the house are always replaced, and sinks are magically unclogged.

It’s wonderful. I bet your husband notices magic too like filled refrigerators and dinner on the table.

Yes, he does and clean clothes in the closet. 😉

I have a partially magic kitchen. It cooks on weekends. But it’s super loud and it doesn’t clean itself.

sounds like a good tradeoff though…maybe except for the not cleaning part.

For some reason the magic fairy always bypassed me yet other people living there reaped the magical benefits. Oh yeah, I guess that made me the magic house fairy 🤪

:) Yes it’s not easy being the only house fairy!

Whoa…that DOES sound like magic. Good for you! I wish I’d have found that kind of magic but now that I’m too old, magic like that ain’t looking in my direction. That’s ok, I don’t have to share the remote and that makes a nice trade off. :)

Never give up ownership of the remote!

Ah, I’m the magician in our house. But I do have a son who moved back home when his rent went up. He’s paying off student loans and saving for a deposit on his own home while here. Something he couldn’t do if he continued at his old apartment. Rent is crazy these days. So is his student loans. Wish there was some magic for all that!!! If you ever figure out how to get the cats to clean their own litter boxes, please do tell!

Everything is $$$ these days. Buying that first home is a challenge. As for litter boxes, sigh. I thought about the automated ones but I’m just not sure my cats will take to them.

I do some magic but it’s not magic when I know I’m going to do it! :)

What a wonderful post! There is no magic in my house, but I like the concept.

When my friend explained it, it was hilarious. Most of the women he dated had their own place so it all worked out.

Cute post. I work the magic in the house and my hubby does the yard magic. :)

Sounds like you are coordinated! Who does the kitty magic or is that considered house magic?

Well, this “magic” seems perfect to me! And, as the old saying goes “does he have a brother?”

Yes but he’s gone. Died a few years back.

That is my hubby’s brother.

I’m sorry – I totally missed that point! I was just using the old expression of when someone has an exceptional mate, you say “do they have a brother/sister”.

You seem to have chosen to spend your life with a magician, a wise choice and apparently one who always is rather fond of you …

I’ve still got my magic dishwasher, but my magic coffeepot is now a magic tea pot.

When I think back to what magic my mother didn’t have, it’s sad. No microwave, no dishwasher, no bank drive through window (imagine standing in those lines again!). We are lucky to have magic.

Some of our modern conveniences would be tough to live without. It would be quite an adjustment not to have access to a washer and dryer or running water or flushing toilets.
Bottom line: I’d rather live in the Jetsons universe rather than with the Flintstones. :D

My mother did not have a dryer and her washer required some work. In her older years, it was easier for me to take her laundry to my house to do than purchase a w/d that didn’t fit in her space. I can’t imagine researching without google or some other search engine.
