Random 5 for July 26, 2026 – Canadian geese, S’mores Frappucinos, dermatologist, WordPress, weather

There is a party going on next door. I wasn’t invited.

How much poop do they make? – We have a flock of Canadian geese in the area. It looks like three couples and all their kids. They travel together sharing parenting duties. They are usually in a large field or meandering to the creek. This week they visited our neighborhood. OMG! They weren’t here long but they left a mountain of poop on driveways, roads and yards. They are literal poop machines. I enjoyed watching them though. Very majestic poop machines. (This is dedicated to Linda Schaub who posts a lot of geese pictures!)

Leaving the scene. Many of these are juveniles that were fluffy little things a few months ago.

Well, that was fast! – Starbucks brought back their S’mores Frappuccino about a month ago. It’s my all-time favorite frou-frou drink. I use my free rewards to treat myself. It hasn’t been back for a long, long time. Today I found out that the last of the “makings” were out on the floor and they were likely to run out today. Come August, they get all “pumpkin spice-y” (which I’m not a fan! Not in coffee!). It’s a signal that summer is coming to an end. Boogers.

Ack! – I was at my dermatologist this week. This is the derm doc that I use for issues of my face. He is a wizard and a magician. I have another dermatologist who does general work and he did my Moh’s cancer surgery. He’s great but this other guy really cares about the face. We had a good visit. He said I have a few red spots, and he could zap them for me. I said “Sure, go ahead.” Well yikes! The original red spots weren’t nearly as noticeable as the zap marks. Sure hope they fade soon.

WordPress – I whine about WordPress (my blog platform) a lot. They make changes that benefit someone but not me. Some things have become more complicated, but they recently added something that I’m loving. Every day there is a “Cracking open the time capsule” feature. It has links to all the posts I wrote on the same day in other years. Many are ten or more years old. I enjoy reading them and they are fueling my Throw Back Tuesday (yes, I know it’s supposed to be Thursday but it’s my blog and I’ll do as I please!). Thank you, WordPress. Now let’s talk about some of those other tedious things you’ve done!

Another thing I whine about is the weather – This was a perfect week and there is nothing more to say about that. Love it!

So how was your week?

  1. We had lots of birds in the hood down in Bradenton ~ herons, eagles, spoonbills, pelicans (white & brown), ducks, osprey, moorhens, ibis, egrets and geese! Lots of ponds and room for them to roam.

The geese were scoff laws that would jaywalk, park in no parking zones, clog the streets, refuse to move, and bite (if given the opportunity). :D

  2. Kate, your photo of the Canada Geese trooping down the street tickles me so much. Yes, I know they are exceptional poopers but I really miss seeing Canada Geese here. I know they are here but we don’t see them. Second photo… adorable. I still go back and read my blog Under the Oaks/Under the Palm Fronds when I need some cheering up. It’s parked doing nothing in Private mode. If Photobucket hadn’t screwed up my photos with their big stamp over them I would pull it out and put it back to work. I haven’t had a Starbuck’s frou-frou drink in 8 years.

  3. What a fabulous weather week it was! A lovely summer week. The old pieces are fun to review – I agree. Love the geese picture. I have a client for two weeks that causes me to go past all the geese here, crossing the street from their night resting spot to the pond. You can’t be in a hurry if they are crossing the street. And if you are, they don’t care.
