Jake was fastidious with his toilet. He didn’t like to walk in a litter box that had pee lumps. With three other cats in the house, even with frequent scooping, there were pee balls in there. In that case he would look for something soft and absorbent to pee on.
At first it was throw carpets. He was considerate. They always were the ones that you can toss in the washer.
Once he mistook my hip waders for something soft and absorbent. It took a long time to get that dang smell out of the rubber vinyl.
I started to put a towel down for him to use at his discretion to make laundry easier.
He never pooped on them. They were “pee” only. He would poop in the box or yowl to go outside and poop there. No accidents or miscalculations.
The towels were washed with bleach therefore they were white. We used them to dry off outdoor furniture and for other tasks but they were always called the pee towels.
Jake has been gone almost a year and we still have his pee towels. We used them last week when the dishwasher broke and flooded the kitchen.
“I’ll get the pee towels!”
Some things never change!

I’m sure he appreciated the pee towels. What a doll.

We compensate for our cats when they get old hoping that someone will compensate for us when we get old. Sure hope I don’t need pee towels.

It has to be hard on a cat to share litter boxes with a lot of others when he was so fastidious. I’m glad you found a good solution.

It worked. The towels were next to the litter boxes so it was easy.

That is a funny remembrance for good ol’ Jake – who knew you could train a cat to ask for the door to do its business outside?

My outdoor cats always told me when they wanted to go out. Sometimes it was to chase a critter, sometimes to roll in the catnip and sometimes to poop.

That’s interesting as I didn’t know cats expressed themselves in that way, when they want to go outside. I learn new “cat stuff” from you all the time!

That’s a good story. He was a good boy telling you when he needed to poop.

Jake definitely told us whatever he wanted.

I have pee towels too. I also have puppy pads in a few strategic spots.

This was before I discovered puppy pads. Now I have those on hand for all sorts of things. I use one under the cat food dishes so I don’t have to wipe up the floor after every meal!

A nice surprise today to see Jake! He was very considerate. Our towels go through several purpose cycles too. But the memory of Jakes pee towels and them being repurposed is not only funny it’s kinda endearing. He was a wonderfully quirky and opinionated cat🖤

How funny to have a stash just for pee balls. Did that visitor get invited back after rummaging through your closet?

Yes, it was family. I just told him what towels he used.

Our towels have a life cycle. First they are human towels, either hand or bath or swim. Then they become dog towels, cleaning up muddy canine paws/ drying washed dogs. Then they get cut up into cleaning rags. Except my husband is not great at differentiating sometimes and a guest gets a dog towel.

Before the pee towels had worn holes, a visitor decided not to use the nice towels in the guest bath and rummaged around looking for “regular” towels. Yep, he used the pee towels. On one hand I thought it was hysterical on the other, what was he doing rummaging through closets?

We too have a special towel collection but it’s not for Teddy, it’s for my husband. He’ll grab a towel no matter where it is for some “fix-it” project and once he’s used it, well, let’s just say oil, grease, grime, you can get most of that out if not all but the towel JUST IS NEVER THE SAME. So we have a huge pile of “Dave Towels” in the garage. Yep – we probably all have some towels that used to be for human usage but have morphed into something ELSE! Tee Hee

Maybe it’s a guy thing. My husband used to do that too. Then we got the pee towels.
