Random 5 for March 29, 2026 – April, pansies, car repair, printers, symbols

Popping up soon! Yay April!

Goodbye March – Seems like we just met. You held out so much promise after a frigid February, but you weren’t much better. Your bi-polar temperature swings need serious medication. Maybe an IV drip! May you rest in peace, and we look forward to welcoming April who has promised to be better behaved.

Speaking of a weather break – After such a cold and brutal winter, any flower looks wonderful. My neighbor (who is a little flower crazy) bought two flats of pansies. Her yard looks wonderful. It almost inspired me. I’ll start pulling planters out and dreaming of lush flowers. I don’t usually plant pansies because just when they are big and bushy, it’s time to pull them out and plant the summer flowers. Maybe this year a little pot of pansies would do me good. Cheaper than therapy.

His cousin dented my car! Source: Siusanne Nichols

A while back a deer ran into my car. — It was a soft impact. It caused small dents and a tiny crumple (and probably gave the deer a headache). I’ve been debating about getting it repaired. My car is five years old, so I don’t expect it to be dent-less but this week I noticed that the front bumper cover has a crack. The impact moved the driver’s door and front bumper up just enough to cause tension and a crack. Damage is minimal but it will take over a week to repair which means driving a rental. I hate driving rentals. I can never find anything. I drive into a gas station and realize I’m on the wrong side. My windshield wipers are automatic. With a rental, I have to figure them out often in the pouring rain. Don’t get me started on headlights. It’s not that I can’t adjust, it’s that I don’t want to. I want to save my precious brain cells for something more fun (like figuring our where my cat barfed a hairball!).

Speaking of more fun – Not! Our 15-month-old printer broke. (Yes, three months out of warranty!) Reviewing replacements is another thing I don’t want to waste brain cells on. I want something easy to use with reasonable ink costs. They don’t come with user manuals anymore. It’s tiny icons that I have no idea what they mean. Reminds me of the chart I have next to my washing machine that tells me what the different symbols mean for clothing. Nothing is intuitive.

Speaking of what they mean – Another thing I don’t always understand are emojis. Sometimes I’ll get a message full of them and I’m not sure if someone is congratulating me for winning the lottery (which I didn’t) or telling me to jump off a cliff. It’s like hearing issues. I just bob my head up and down and smile. Seems to work.

So how was your week?

  1. Aww, that deer is so beautiful! Not much to report here other than Louis Catorze’s screaming and demands for attention deteriorating. I even asked Cat Daddy, “Do you think he’s ill?” (He’s not. He’s just a shite.)

  2. Nothing is “easy” these days…..getting a car fixed, understanding a new printer or ANY new appliance……I used to enjoy figuring that stuff out and now it just plain irritates me. You know how you run into really sweet old ladies from time to time ??? I’m not one of those…..my frown lines have frown lines. Well I’m just grumpy today because my cat Teddy got mad at me last night and didn’t hop up on the bed for a snuggle last night. That makes me cranky. Forgive me? I promise to be better next blog post! Honest.

    Hugs, Pam

  3. When my printer died, I decided not to replace it because I was buying ink just to let it dry out between uses. We print at the library. It requires a bit more planning, but we swing by there a few times a week, so it’s not a bit deal.

Good luck deciding what to do with the car. I don’t like driving unfamiliar cars. Too much variation. Not like the good old days.

  4. What a bummer on the printer. Can’t believe it konked out already. Is it the same brand as the former one who gave up the ghost? Time for a different brand! Sending positive thoughts for a better week and maybe a small planter of pansies to cheer you.

    • No, the last one was HP which I won’t buy because they like to snooker you into an ink subscription. The last was Epson. We liked it until it didn’t print. The new one is Canon. we are going through the alphabet of printers! 😦

      • Oh gosh, you really are running the gambit of printers. Do you print a lot? My Epson does a great job printing though the quality is only so-so. It can’t print photographs but I’m going to wait to replace it once I’ve used up the ink cartridges. Hope you have better luck with the next replacement.
