Here we are again – We are awaiting a snowstorm that is unpredictable. We are sitting in an edge area. We may get 8 to 16 inches of snow (good Lord no!) or 4 to 8 inches (still not happy about that) depending on the shift. We’ve had hype all week. The cats are unimpressed. They are napping on their window ledge as they always do when I’m on my computer. It’s warm and drizzly out and hard to believe that tomorrow morning it will again be a nightmare to shovel. As a child, I remember my excitement about snow. Somewhere over the years, I left it behind along with that umbrella on a bus or train somewhere.
The side effects of a calm week – A boring post. There was no crisis, no cat shenanigans, just a normal peaceful week. For living, I love these weeks. For writing, they are deadly. Bear with me. Maybe next week will bring some tragedy! (Did I say that out loud?)
Hello, goodbye – As glad as I was to welcome the winter Olympics, I am ready to move on. The winter ones are my favorites. Who was that first crazy person who decided to do somersaults 20 feet in the air? On skies? Surely, they are in a padded place and medicated. The chance of breaking a neck is high but watching it was amazing. It almost made me appreciate snow (heck no!). This week I will come out of my happy world and get reconnected with the other nonsense going on. Argh!
Connecting – This week I did my annual connection to an old, dear friend. She lives in another state across the country. It always means an hour phone call. I am not a phone person (my teenage self is laughing at that). Although I haven’t seen her in over a decade, she was a crucial support for some of the most painful moments of my life. I will forever be in her debt for that (and yes will tolerate LONG phone calls!). We spent some time comparing the number of friends we have lost in the last year. She won but not by much. It’s that time of life when you must take the time to enjoy the here and now because it will be dead and gone tomorrow!
Desperation – I am sharing some funny cartoons. I had some new ones but sadly WordPress saw no humor in them and gave me fits during download. Not sure what was going on but here are oldies. (And no, I haven’t reached my photo storage limit!)
So how was your week?

LOL – unpredictable weather for sure! Snow was great as kids because it mean outside fun and maybe – just maybe!- a snow day off from school! As adults its more just a pain and something you have to deal with. Although I have to say working from home means I don’t necessarily have to do anything about it 🙂

I never had that kind of luck. I always had to trudge in and hope I didn’t get stuck.

That last smile…OMG, I actually snorted when I read it,. Good one. Dramaless weeks can be soooo welcoming. But I’m sure something will surface…if nothing else…the weather which has been super strange this winter season. Either the lack of or the over abundance. Here’s hoping this week is Goldilocks perfect.

Today’s snow totally missed up and it looks like tomorrow’s will too. Yay! The days are longer but I could use some warmer temps. Maybe this weekend!

We’ll keep our fingers crossed for you. It was 70F yesterday and will be in the 60’s today with high winds. This is a February unlike any other!

My stepkids live in Denver and it’s been a truly weird winter. Unfortunately not good for the drought or wildfire season.

Not to mention the ski slopes.

I love your graphics – how much snow did you end up getting? We have friends in New Jersey that were literally buried, but safe!
Hope you’re all safe & well.

We got less than 6 inches. We were in a “dry air” band that got a lot less than areas 50 miles from us. We were lucky.

Did so identify with almost all you wrote. The weather here also took a downward swing over the last couple of days (that’s actually normal for February) though I doubt we’ll see snow, at least not as far south as Jerusalem. I’m sure the ski resorts in the north would like some.
About the Winter Olympics – although, in general, I at least enjoy the figure skating, somehow, I’ve managed to miss almost everything. I’m not really into watching sports. I think the reason I wasn’t really “aware” of the Olympics is that they are broadcast on dedicated sports channels instead of intruding on schedules on the main national channels.
Loved the funnies – especially the last 😉
Enjoying the here and now – I’m doing a lot of that this week, and it’s probably why I felt so uplifted by the wedding I attended last night.

I’m not a sports fan at all but the amazing acrobatics on ice and in snow intrigue me. I occasionally fall on dry flat surfaces on a sunny day so I have no idea how people do that stuff! Here and now. I have to work on that all the time.

Our temps were in the 60s last week and all our snow is melted! In February!! We’re back down to 30s this week, which I’ll take over all the snow you’re getting. I actually like snow, but not when it’s that many inches. Stay safe and warm, Miss Kate. ⛷️❄️🧣

It wasn’t as bad as predicted but my activities got cancelled. Warmer weather coming up! Yay!

Thanks for the laughs. I particularly liked the last cartoon. 🙂 My 15-year-old grandson is a freestyle skier, which means he skies off of cliffs in the Sierra’s and flips once, twice, three times. He loves it. He’s on a team and maybe hopes for the Olympics one day? His dad says, “it’s his passion, so we won’t say no.” I cringe every time I see a video.
I just got off the phone with a long-time, far away friend like the one you mention here. Yes. We listen. For a long hour (I also don’t like to talk on the phone.)
Big blizzard here in NE right now. Stay safe!

The storm was a bit of a bust here (not complaining). We got 6 inches instead of the insane amounts they were predicting. I often wish I could spend a day with my friend again. That friendship has lasted for decades.

I’ve loved the Olympics though it became all-consuming. I even watching mountaineering! But the winner–those American hockey players, with their unexpected Gold medal wins and their unabashed patriotism. They made me proud.

I didn’t watch the hockey game but saw most of the rest. It was all consuming. Back to normal life now.

I was certain I had replied yesterday. Now my addled cold frozen -over brain said that I must have read it, thought of a reply and traveled on. Gotta wonder if there’s any hope for me. Well below freezing here and I managed to get the gardenias covered again and camellia. The roses made tiny new leaves in the several days of sun and temps at least in the high 30’s, bless them, and those will be gone. Poor things. See ya tomorrow!

We ended up with 6 inches of snow but our temps are above freezing. Hopefully it will melt soon.

You are lucky. We got maybe 6 inches. It’s mostly over with just some flurries now. We dodged the bigger storm which went east of us.

Boring or not, I’m sure you stay busy. May you get minimal snow and may it be gone soon.

There is always something to do. Looks like about 6 inches out there but I’ll see what the forecasters say. Roads are cleared here and the temperatures is already over freezing. Hopefully it will melt in a few days.

Lord knows I have to find the humor in the fact that I moved to a beach town, where no one knows what to do when it snows, and we’re predicted to get a BLIZZARD dropping 18 inches of heavy, wet snow.
A Margarita sounds good right about now …

Boring is good sometimes, but comes with an asterisk. With the exception of three days (February 12th through the 14th) when I escaped to the Detroit River shoreline one day and Council Point Park three days (which excursions felt like a mini vacation), I feel like this Winter has been wash/rinse/repeat since November. The snow/ice melted, but all this week we had ugly weather … freezing fog for four days and when it wasn’t doing that, it was raining or 40-45 mph wind gusts. This morning, I had 2 1/2 inches of heavy snow. I was grumbling about it, but grateful it was not what you or others are getting. It was snowing heavily which made my clothes wet – grrr. Looked outside about two hours later – no one had shoveled and their driveways were melting even though it was still below freezing. I said bad words. 🙂

As I get older, I use bad words with snow often. We got 6 inches but the temperatures is already over 32 at 8 a.m. so it won’t last.

For me, bad words even listening to the weather report these days. 🙂 I’ve been looking at videos of the blizzards in NYC and Rhode Island, which was hit the hardest. So I’m grateful to have dodged a big bullet.

I like to imagine your cats on the window ledge.
This morning I watched a video of Alyssa Liu, the gold medal skater. She is so cute. Even if she couldn’t effortlessly do her jumps, I’d love her.
We still haven’t had any snow this year. Fine with me. My daughters in PA and MD have had more than their share.

I hear you on the calm week. Weirdly, everything went right for me last week with regard to people agreeing to do what they said they would, timeframes met, deposits made on time, etc. I won’t get too comfortable with that, though. I like that you talk to someone annually.

We’ve had such a bad couple of months, I keep waiting for the shoe to drop on a peaceful week. She was my bestie when I lived in NJ. I moved in ’95 and I still miss her. Now she lives in Denver so I can’t drive to see her!

I’m here too on the edge of my seat awaiting the predicted avalanche. I’m wondering if what they say is true…20 inches or more, where I could rent dogs and a sled.
As far as boring goes…I’ll take it. 🙂

The predictors are going crazy. Most are downsizing our snowfall (but still substantial). There will be a small area what will see very small amounts (under 5″). Hope that’s us. If not this too shall pass. Cats are oblivious. Chewy delivered their food so they are happy.

Well, hooray for boring weeks sometimes. Even if there’s not much to write about, quiet weeks are just peachy. First this storm was 1-3 inches, gradually became 4-8. Ugh. Mother Nature doesn’t care for being predictable. I’m just glad I don’t have any pet sits to do Monday morning, since Sunday overnight is supposed to be the majority of whatever snow we get. So tired of winter, but then I’m always weary of the gray and brown about this time. Ready for some green and primary colors.

Yep I hear ya. Same deal here in Virginia…..who knows what – be prepared for the end of the world OR get your bathing suit out cause you might need it. We’re just sitting tight and watching the world go by PERIOD. Hoping for no ICE – we can handle 3-5 inches of snow (that’s the ACTUAL prediction for us). Sigh. SPRING…….WHERE ART THOU?
