Just three today. Slow week with lots of upheavals and disruptions too boring to write about.
The best laid plans of mice and men! – What should have been a regular week turned irregular. We had our first “bad weather” day which rescheduled plans. Cat shenanigans were going on and it’s time to decorate for the holiday season. As I look at my schedule going forward, it’s crowded but things happen (like bad weather) and everything changes so I’m not stressing out. It seems like there is a signal that says, “it’s the holidays season, let’s pile on the stuff!” Or maybe that’s just for me.
Cats – Sasha, my loud bossy cat, has a consultation with a surgeon to remove a lump on her neck. Her regular vet doesn’t think it needs to be removed but it’s been growing. I thought it would be prudent to get a second opinion. The problem is that the vet wants her fasted for 10 hours in case they take bloodwork. Her appointment is at 2 p.m. It will be a loud morning here on Wednesday! I could give her a snack at midnight hoping that would hold her over. Nope, that won’t work for either of us.
Technology #@!* — In an attempt to sync up the beloved husband’s Fitbit smart watch with his phone, we boogered stuff up. Now the watch won’t work at all, not even to tell time. It’s likely a small glitch but an hour and a half of fussing hasn’t fixed it (and it left us both grumpy!). His daughter is coming today and taking a look will be her first order of business. If she can’t fix it, we can face time with her really smart daughter who does magic with technology. Learning this stuff as an adult is a lot harder than learning it as a child when all your brain synapses are snapping.
So how was your week?

The holiday season does always get crazy – between holiday stuff, end of year stuff and weather stuff, it is always hectic! Hope the smart watch situation gets fixed easily and Sasha’s neck can be fixed with a minimum of singing and stress for both of you!

At least in retirement I don’t have work end of year stuff!

Thank God for that!

Wishing you and Sasha much luck with all regarding the vet visit. It could be a difficult day but I read in comments you were thinking of taking her for bloodwork on another day. I think that would make it easier for both of you. Technology and AI… both wearing me out.

Stepdaughter is visiting and has fixed a variety of tech issues. She’s leaving tomorrow!

Tyler had a mass removed. Turned out it was a weird rubbery looking mass from getting a vaccine in the scruff instead of a limb like it’s supposed to be. I switched vets. It never did regrow -at least that we could feel. Hope all turns out okay.

If Sasha has to fast, does that mean the other cats will have to fast too? Wouldn’t she eat from their bowls?
Oooh! Don’t talk about technology. Most of the time I think I’m a calm person, but when I try to get some tech to work and it just won’t do it, the frustration is hard to take.

I will keep her isolated in a room by herself and hopefully won’t hear her yell! My stepdaughter is here this weekend. She “fixed” it in about a half hour. I get frustrated because I feel like I’m doing the same thing over and over (think reboot!).

Poor Sasha. Thay will be a tough day for her. I can’t deal with modern technology.

It will be a tough day especially with the fasting. It’s a consult so they won’t do anything that day. I am considering taking her in early in the morning (on another day) for bloodwork.

Hope Sasha’s appointment goes well. I feel for you having to listen to her complaining about no food.

I feel like a dinosaur sometimes as I don’t have TV and I have a smartphone, but use my landline for incoming and outgoing calls (probably five a month that are legitimate) and I use a flip phone whenever I leave the house and my pedometer is a clip-on digital that I’ve had since 2011. Yikes! I’m stuck in the previous decade I think. Our weather is not great and it’s like Mother Nature can’t decide what to do – today we had heavy, wet snow, but it was a bit milder. Tonight, we have no snow, a real feel of zero again and re-freeze tomorrow, more snow tomorrow night. I hope Sasha’s lump is nothing, but a second opinion is a good idea. I’ll pity you on Wednesday. Better take a can of cat food or some kibble for the ride home. I hope Morgan’s swallowing issues are resolving?

I have found that if you don’t keep up with technology, it’s harder when you need to do something. Some companies no longer support desktop programs, focusing only on cell apps (Fitbit comes to mind). I try to keep up as best as I can. Switching from cable to streaming was a learning experience.

I remember when you switched a few months ago – I hope you have it down pat now. I would dread having to learn all that. AT&T is supposed to be shutting down landlines by 2029, so I do want to port my phone number to a smartphone, but keep putting it off. I like having a landline, even though I don’t use it that much. I have issues with my web-based e-mail because they want two-step verification and I can’t text … it takes me so long to text anything. I texted my boss all the time but by using the computer. Comcast does not recognize me half the time and I am treated like an imposter so I have to have an alternate e-mail address for them to send me a verification code.

Sounds complicated!

Yes, it wasn’t always complicated like that. They think I am two different people using the account, which is silly as I only have one account there (even though you can have multiple accounts). I hope your appointment went well today and Sasha hasn’t eaten you out of house and home since you returned.

I hope it went well. I did actually know it was today. I had an allergy shots appointment today and associated it with Sasha’s appointment. I had to cancel due to the weather which was horrible – snow/rain/flash freeze – tomorrow morning will be horrible to step outside the door. With the lack of continuity in my regular routine due to the last two weeks of wintry weather, the days do seem to be running together.

Sadly we don’t know anyone tech savvy now, which is very daunting.

I am not sure I will ever be ready for a smart Fitbit. Daughter loves hers. Good luck with an unhappy diva. And I hope the Fitbit gets fixed and you have a better week. Kind of a crazy week for me.

Yes, not sure if it’s worth doing a second trip early in the morning for the bloodwork. Let’s see — 2 trips to the tune of Carmen or a day of yeowling. Tough choice.

Most days I think my Fitbit has a mind of it’s own. When it glitches, I just ignore and it eventually sees that I am not amused or bothered, and goes back to acting like it’s supposed to!!🙄🙄

Your Fitbit must be a sibling to my husbands. He is again working on it. I’m waiting for the daughter. I’d be lost without mine. I not only use it for tracking steps but also as a notification for calls and texts. I don’t walk around with my phone on me all the time.

Same here. I only use my Fitbit for the time, date and as a step counter.

I resist most forms of new-ish technology. It’s simpler not to have to sync up this with that. 😀
Good luck on Wednesday.

I was like that for a long time. I love some of the things I can do on my phone and watch. Time savers but not necessary. Wish I would have had this when I was working.

I ache for Sasha. I so hate fasting. It’s bad enough you have to go be pressed and prodded, but with your stomach growling just seems unfair. I do think though, a second opinion is a good idea. You’re a very caring Cat-Mom. Keep us informed please. 🙂

Maybe if you have house guests the day Sasha has to fast, she’ll just hide and you won’t have to worry? Of course, then the problem is getting her out of her hidey hole for her appointment…

How soon does she come out after they leave? Will churu help?

Somehow she knows when the car is out of the driveway. Food won’t help unless she is starving and even then, fear overrides hunger.

Tech stuff is just awful. I was working with a wonderful cat behaviorist with one of my fosters, distance work so everything online, etc. She wanted me to get a camera, make videos, upload to cloud, etc. I don’t even know what she was talking about so didn’t happen! Marley’s youngest moved to Philly recently so we don’t have him to help us anymore. One more reason it is tough getting older. I hope you get a good report/results on Sasha.

I often don’t know what they are talking about. I had to upload videos to youtube to use on my blog. That was a few years back and took me a while to get it all done.

I always have to think about how to upload videos on my blog. It just isn’t instinctual like it is for the young ones.

Hope all goes well for Sasha…..lumps can be just “fat” or not so second opinions are a good idea! Good you have a “techie” in the family for your FitBit issue – we don’t have any tech around here other than computers and even at that, they are “basic”……….. BUT today as I was wrapping some gifts for under the tree I discovered that I no longer have patience for something ELSE – WRAPPING. I used to spend a long time making perfect packages – now I’m not so careful cutting perfectly sized swatches of paper, or interesting bows (I love the stick ons now!). Sigh.
Hugs, Pam

You are amazing! I gave up wrapping years ago. I switched to bags with tissue paper almost as soon as they came out. Then I just stopped gifts altogether. I commend your patience. I remember wrapping as a child. It was more fun then but I never truly enjoyed it. Sasha’s lump got a “crust” last week. Freaked me out. After I made the appointment, it came off leaving just the lump underneath. Sigh. Cats. Still going because it has gotten bigger. The vet thinks it’s a harmless cyst.

This may be my last year for wrapping – the bags are tempting!! David and i are talking this this being the last year for gifts for each other – we have “stockings (hung by the chimney with care) for little stuff and we may just restrict gifting for filling those with little fun stuff. Anyway, Sasha – I bet it’s a cyst….I’m sticking with that diagnosis……!!!! HUGS to you AND her…….
