Sassy cats – One more story — Tallulah

Gracie: Exhausting morning!

Gracie here. Bad morning. The computer was hit by a scam pop-up that froze the screen. It hasn’t happened for a while so the peep forgot how to clear it. She left my post in limbo while she went shopping! Hard to get good help these days.

The peep has one more Gracie (the dog who visited us) story for you. Our next-door neighbor has a puppy. Her name is Tallulah and it fits her perfectly – naughty, neurotic and nuts. She’s around three months old and totally insane. She’s a Morky (a cross between a Maltese and Yorkshire terrier). Our neighbor specifically got her because she won’t get to be more than 10 pounds and she will be able to fly with her.

Gracie the dog!

She’s like a small rabbit and a lot more jumpy. You can’t hold her because she’s the wiggle queen and she doesn’t respond to commands. In fact, she doesn’t respond to anything but her own head which is nuts. A flea has a longer attention span.

Back to my story. The peep thought that maybe Gracie (the dog, not me!) and Tallulah could have a short play date. She thought it would be good for Tallulah to tire her out, settle her down and show her how a calm dog acts. Gracie wasn’t having any of it. Tallulah danced around her like she was a maypole shedding kinetic energy. It didn’t work at all. At this point in her life, Gracie (the dog) is calm and purposeful (or as purposeful as a dog can be).

This is what a Morky looks like. They are around 7 lbs. fully grown. Source: Petfinder

Everyone thinks Tallulah is cute (not me!) but she is a handful. She defies being house broken. She will run around outside and then go in the house to pee and poop. Perhaps she needs a litter box. She is scheduled to start dog training classes next week and I wish that trainer luck.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I could not do a Tahlulah. I truly am a cat person. The high energy you describe… you would have to peel me off the ceiling. But the deal breaker would be not being housebroken. I hope the Lady Peep has fixed the the computer. I am thinking yes she has because we have this fun wonderfully word filled post describing the puppy as a “maypole shedding kinetic energy”… and more. Well done, Gracie!

    • I don’t think I could either. My neighbor is also an older woman and her patience is stretched. The dog is adorable and a walker stopped to ask if she was a rescue. My neighbor said no but come back in a few weeks and she may be.

  2. Oh, my. Well, I guess all animals can’t be as well behaved as you are, Gracie. But a Morky does look cute. She must be getting by on her looks. You though, have looks, grace, and charm!

  3. Well she might be kinda cute BUT a very large “eeeek” on her little personality traits! Wacky, wild, uncontrollable, is exhausting to be around and with Gracie being calm, cool, and collected that just wasn’t going to be a happy play date. Oh well. Normal cats? Well “normal” is kind of a wide-ranging descriptive isn’t it……!

    Hugs, Pam

    • Cats for sure in this household. The peeps are too old to handle a dog and it’s in our adoption contract! There is a cute factor but also the small factor. Small dogs tend to be more yappy and neurotic.

  4. Hmm – Gracie, I know you’re prejudiced about dogs who aren’t named Gracie, but that Morky is really cute. I’ve never heard of that cross of breeds before. So, I wonder where Tallulah gets all that energy from? A work friend had a Yorkie and she drove me home from work to her house so I could meet it. The dog was in a crate while her and her husband were at work. She let Dusty out and it was like some “wild thing” – I was sitting on the couch and it sprang from the crate to my lap, to the floor and back again. Non-stop running around. And my neighbor Marge had a Malti-poo (cross between a Maltese and Poodle) and it had the same non-stop energy and was untrainable for going outside. She spent a fortune on puppy pee pads, then gave it away.

    • The peep had two black cats. Both were kind of weird. Lacey didn’t like people or cats and Jake was a one of a kind boy cat. He has been gone 9 years and we still talk about his adventures.

  5. You know Grace, I’ve been thinking. Maybe you could bring Tallulah a litter box, ya know, as an incentive.

In the long run since as we know, cats are much tidier than dogs, it might be a godsend

And I so agree…it’s hard to get good help these days.

    See ya next week.

  6. Morkies are cute, but like all pups, they aren’t born house or anything else trained. I can’t remember Maya ever being small, but then she was 3 months old when we got her, so we missed some vital bonding and training weeks.
She got on well with Kela, who took most of her puppy antics, but did turn when she wanted to doze and Maya thought it was playtime.

  7. Oh gosh, while adorably cute, Tallulah is a terrier or as some people call them, terrorists. Guess I’m just too old for puppies. Even at 6, Wilson can have a bit too much energy some days. And he’s a lot bigger than 7 to 10 lbs!

  8. Gracie the dog was not a fan of Talullah at all. In general Gracie prefers people to other dogs. She’s friendly with them, but not terribly interested in playing with them. And Talullah was a handful and a half. I think that playdate lasted about 30 seconds.
