After a hectic week, it’s good to be back focusing on more normal things like stupid people, shopping and where to get the best pizza.
I love pizza. I could live on it indefinitely and I did when I was much younger. My teeth did not fall out like Mom said it would. My hair is another story but I think that has more to do with hormones than pizza.
My addiction is really her fault as are most of my shortcomings. I didn’t have pizza until high school. (Hard to believe, isn’t it?) Then I went completely crazy. Do they have meetings for that?
There are a lot of pizza shops around here but they are not all good. Many make the pizzas at 6 a.m. and let them sit around until some unsuspecting customer comes in hours later. They heat it up and serve it. DiGorno is fresher!
In my book that’s leftovers. It’s no different from last night’s meatloaf and mashed potatoes except that those are stored in the refrigerator and the pizzas are stored on racks where people can sneeze on them.
Back in the old days, they baked fresh pizzas all day. Sometimes you had to wait until it came out of the oven…for the first time.
In addition to not being fresh, the heat-up process involves temperatures of 600 degrees. Do you know what kind of pizza burn that gives? I think they call it third degree! It’s routine for me to ask them not to overheat it. If the cheese is brown you are in big trouble!
Then there is the big debate – thin or thick. I don’t like cracker thin crust which is in vogue with creative toppings. If I want a cracker smeared with tomato sauce, I can make that at home for free.
I’m a bread person so I like a bite of starch with my overheated cheese and creative toppings. Not Sicilian style, but the “normal” hand tossed stuff. Creative toppings are good as long as they are not too weird. I need to be able to both pronounce and spell them before I want them on my pizza. And absolutely no anchovies! I swear they don’t clean the poop out of those little fishies.
Fortunately I married a man with the same taste. Since pizza is a staple in this house that could have been a deal breaker, just like cats. Gotta love cats!
I used to make it at home but for two people it’s too much work. I make a mean Chicago-style pizza but I need a crowd for that. A large crowd!
Of course I could open my own pizzeria. I would get up at 3 a.m. to be sure all the pizzas are made by 6 a.m.
Then I could go to Starbucks for breakfast! Sweet!

I also L O V E pizza! Maybe we could start a site that fixes people up with the right pizza. Sort of like E-Harmony, but for pizza. We would have so much fun!!

We both like pizza and are fortunate to have a local pizza chain minutes from our house. The pizzas are always fresh and the toppings are generous, but not overboard. Plus they have the best house salad with creamy garlic dressing. Oh dear, now I’m getting hungry! Maybe for dinner tonight…

I’m thinking pizza for supper too. It’s hot here for cookin’.

I like pizza but don’t eat it as often as I used to. I am pretty much a “normal” pizza person…pepperoni, onions, black olives, sometimes sausage…but there is a place here that makes the best Hawaiian pizza, ham and pineapple with a sorta sweet sauce and no tomatoes. Now I gotta go for pizza and it’s all your fault.

You are not a normal pizza person! Cheese, tomatoes and a nice crust is normal! Hope you enjoyed your pizza run.

Didn’t get my pizza. I only eat meat once a week and I had beef stew the other day. Pizza will have to be on the to-do list for now.

Fortunately the way I eat it, I often have it twice a week! It’s just so easy.

Nothing like NJ pizza and bagels . . . but we’ve found some good pizza places down here, including Oma’s right across from the beach. We order the pie and go walk on the beach for 20 minutes while it is prepared and cooked. Crust is perfect ~ not too thin, not too thick.

Waiting on the beach is certainly better than waiting in a pizzeria no matter how nice (and usually they aren’t all that nice — clean but utilitarian!).

LOL! Your pizza memories and pizza preferences cracked me up. Reminds me of Bill, who never eats cheese – ever – except on pizza. Then he orders a plain pizza with “thick crust” and “light on the cheese.” Me – I love thick crust and heavy cheese, with everything on it – “Supreme” they call it here. No wonder he is slim and I am pleasingly plump.

The supreme also has veggies on it which are very healthy (along with the pepperoni, sausage and bacon….)

Before we moved to Florida, I lived in Syracuse, N.Y. Among the nationalities to call it home are Italians. Pizza, Italian bread, pasta … I was in heaven. We’ve made pizza from dough we bought at the store. Fortunately, we also found a pizzeria that knows how to make it right. And, yes, Kate, I have eaten cold for breakfast. (Spaghetti, too.) 😉

Most of the pizza shops here are owned by Greeks rather than Italians. Not sure when that change happened. I love good dough. That’s what I think is what’s wrong with most bad pizzas.

Actually my favorite bakery in Syracuse, Columbus Bakery, was run by Greeks. 😉

Pizza and cats…doesn’t get better than that.
My best friend moved from NJ to VA about 20 years ago. Whenever she comes up to visit she always wants 2 foods that she swears don’t taste the same in VA: pizza and bagels.

Jersey bagels and crumb cakes! I lived in NJ and the food was fabulous!

I love pizza! My favorite is homemade, it’s less doughy and more fresh.

I have to really be in the mood for pizza, and sometimes I’m not. But my all time favorite is from a place called Lost Dog Café (yes, they also have a Stray Cat Café, and they support animal rescues), called the Ricky Ricotta. The sauce is basically creamed spinach, and then just the right amount of ricotta and mozzarella on top. Cooked fresh to order. I am completely addicted which is unfortunate for many reasons…but what can a girl do?

You had me until you said creamed spinach. Then I fell off……First Jethro Tull, now creamed spinach. What other weird things do you like?

Well, I like piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain. And I’m not the weird one! Very disappointing Kate, this business about Jethro Tull and creamed spinach.

Kate, I think you can’t see the forest for the trees. There’s a great pizza house at the South Mall, not far from where you live. They have all sorts of Italian foods and still throw the pizza dough up in the air to stretch it. Another benefit is that it’s only a “stone’s throw” from your favorite Starbucks. Call me if you don’t know what to do with the leftovers.

That’s the one I usually go to. Their pizza is good although they make it early in the day. There is a great one down by the Promenade Shops too. They make them fresh to order and it’s just big enough for 2 people.

“Cracker smeared with tomato sauce” – that’s the truth. I love pizza, too – especially cold leftovers for breakfast (although difficult to hide a piece or two for leftovers these days) I used to make it, but it takes so long – and you do end up with a lot of it. We have a one good place on the other side of the lake – with is perfect in cold rainy weather as it has a cozy fireplace….summers you fight for a spot on the patio with the entire neighborhood…..but no dishes to wash!

No dirty dishes! That’s the best part! That and you don’t have to heat up your kitchen.

I love pizza. I don’t indulge very often but I love it. In my area of Connecticut, the pizza is mostly made by little Greek pizza shops – one at a time, made to order. They are fabulous. But then again, as the old saying goes: “Sex is like pizza. When it’s good, it’s really good. And when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good.”

Yes I do have friends who eat day old cold pizza for breakfast and are very happy.
