Last night we went out to a new local restaurant. It was one of those Brazilian affairs where you help yourself to a buffet. Then just when you are ready to take your first bite of salad, you are assaulted by rounds of skewer-carrying servers (passadores) with a variety of barbequed entrees. They serve you a slab cut from the skewer at the table.
Each skewer is different and has a very weird name which you can neither understand nor pronounce. There were meat, fish, poultry and vegetarian skewers. We made them say the ingredient. You know…like chicken, fish, pork, pineapple…the basics. After that, they could jabber about whatever the official recipe was called. Blah, blah, blah.
First, if you read my post yesterday, you will remember that we had some bad weather. The good news about that is that it will cut down on the crowds at the restaurants. The bad news is the servers didn’t have anyone else to serve (well, there were a few other tables) so it was like a procession. In fact, it was more like a swarm of bees surrounding one lonely, pollen-laden flower.
I felt hounded, totally inadequate to keep up.
Eat faster, faster I say!
Chicken, fish, pineapple, beef this way, beef that way, spicy chicken, squash!
First off, I don’t like to eat that fast. There was no time for a cocktail. I had my salad and two skewers before my first drink. There’s something wrong about that.
I am not much of an eater, especially a meat eater. When I found something I liked it didn’t seem to come back again.
Don’t get me wrong, the food was good. There was a chicken dish that I really like. I have no idea what it was. The buffet had wonderful things that I didn’t have time to fully investigate. The mashed potatoes were scrumptious and there were a lot of weird little salads to try.
Next time we go, I may opt to get the buffet and pass on the skewer-carrying passadores (no matter how cute they are).
Sounds like you had an interesting night,I don’t like being rushed when I eat either no matter how nice looking the waiter may be…but that does seem like a fun place to try out.

I don’t like to be rushed to eat either. Although it is generally us kitties who have to rush the humans to give us food 😉
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving nice wishes for Milou. We really appreciate!

I would have loved it more with some pacing.

My son-in-law gets absolutely giddy at these Brazilian barbecues. I think you hit upon at least partly why I wouldn’t like it. I don’t like my eating to be rushed, for one thing. But these places are really popular. I am sure you still had a wonderful evening! 🙂

Yes, it was good and I didn’t overeat which can be another problem.

Those Brazilian Meat Mongers aren’t very appealing to this vegetarian, however, I have a friend who probably weighs 90 pounds soaking wet. She is a tiny adorable bit of a thing, but eats like there’s no tomorrow. When I went to one of these places with her she just kept turning the little wooden thing back to green and they kept bringing slabs of every meat imaginable as she just slammed it down. I was in awe…and a little frightened…

One of the friends I was with also did that but she is considerably bigger the 90 lbs. She kept asking for double helpings. I was like, get away from me!

I’m imagining you as Lucy and them as the candy conveyor belt going faster and faster as you/Lucy stuff morsels into your mouth . . . with no time to swallow.
And also the scene from Fantasia with the brooms carting buckets of water faster and faster as the “ship” sinks under the in-coming tide.

That’s exactly how it was only I didn’t get one chocolate!

The passadores sounded entertaining, but, oh my goodness … so much food! These days I eat all day long, but I get full halfway through a meal. I can’t do justice to most buffets.

Not a buffet girl myself. I never get my money’s worth.

What an exciting life you lead! The Brazilian restaurant sounds more like an overwhelming adventure. I love the last line about skipping the passadores no “matter how cute they are.” 🙂

There’s nothing worse than feeling rushed by a server, but throw in a swarm of servers, it gives me indigestion. I’m with you, not much of an eater, especially when it comes to beef. I never try new things in a restaurant, so usually it’s something with chicken on my plate. Glad you got home safe. I hope you enjoyed the concert, Kate.

I wasn’t sure if they were trying to get us out to close up (there really were only a few tables full) or if they always keep it moving. In any case that was the only downer on the evening.

Very funny, Kate, an experience more than my head and my stomach could unite around. At least you didn’t leave hungry and got a great post topic out of it…no extra charge.

You certainly wouldn’t get your money’s worth! It was a good experience though. Just wish I could order one dish.

I’ve wondered about these places. So much pressure if the crowd is thin.
Once again you tell the tale with such humor. I can just visualize the meat dance.
It’s still miserably cold, drizzle here – but hard to complain with all the ice elsewhere. Stay warm
